One of two rather silly seeming :-) questions

edit

Hello The Beanster; you inserted the Marks for Royal Navy Merlins in 2020: This edit.

  • What do you think of an edit, that removed all the dots - e.g. from HC.4 to HC4 in that article?

Regards --Anidaat (talk) 07:56, 27 April 2023 (UTC)Reply

  • I understand "i" means "interim". Have all these HC.3i become HC.4 in the meantime?
yes, they have; see: all 19 HC3 and six HC3A Merlin helicopters are now at the HC4/4A Commando Merlin standard--Anidaat (talk) 12:37, 28 April 2023 (UTC)Reply
Yes as far as I know this is also true :) The Beanster (talk) 15:00, 1 May 2023 (UTC)Reply
Hello Anidaat, and thanks for your questions! So, I felt it was important to differentiate between the two types of Merlin’s operated! The removal of the period dot between the mark and number [Mark(dot)Number] was simply following conformity on the Royal Navy websites and public statements made by govt. The Beanster (talk) 15:02, 1 May 2023 (UTC)Reply
"Websites" indicates a quite recent use... :-) - shouldn't we use a dot on all old aircraft types as this was common (then)? One could discuss this at British_military_aircraft_designation_systems, unfortunately the page doesn't give any hints of such a development. Cheers--Anidaat (talk) 08:27, 31 May 2023 (UTC)Reply
