Added in the text written on the back of the painting from the Goodwill link. "This man who resigned a Midland position in 1874 and got his pay." Handy thing that I figured out how school teachers mentally parse nearly unreadable text a few years back as this employable job skill has come in handy over the past few decades.

I personally feel that this image is as notable and historically worthy of adoration in the same level of many classic paintings that seem rather unimpressive in skill today. At this moment, many millions of human beings have seen a variation woodcut of this original image as a humorous or sarcastic moment of joy. All art must be appreciated to have any notable value and the fact that this image (thanks to the many creative folks out there who invested a bit of wit into the image text) is now a matter of emotional investment by many thousands of clever people who have a thrill when they see their clever caption reposted in some random Internet forum. Our individual contributions of good will eventually become that of social anonymity as people are distracted by the thrills of the modern day and no matter what the source or suffering, being able to randomly bring instant joy to millions from long beyond the grave is a skill of great worth not to be dismissed casually.
