Question about DYK
Hey theleekycauldron! I had a quick DYK question and I thought you'd be a good person to talk to! I recently promoted an article (Medjed) to GA and then another editor nominated it for DYK. Is it acceptable for me to list this in the "showcase" section of my userpage even though I personally didn't nominate it/comment on the DYK nom?--Gen. Quon[Talk] 21:53, 28 April 2023 (UTC)
- @Gen. Quon of course! BorgQueen (talk) 21:55, 28 April 2023 (UTC)
- BorgQueen OK, cool! I didn't want to overstep, but I'm also happy to see it making the front page!--Gen. Quon[Talk] 15:52, 29 April 2023 (UTC)
- @Gen. Quon: Little late to the party, but I do, of course, second BorgQueen :) nice work on the article! theleekycauldron (talk • contribs) (she/her) 21:33, 29 April 2023 (UTC)

DYK for United States v. Rahimi
On 1 May 2023, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article United States v. Rahimi, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that a 2023 ruling from the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit invalidates a law preventing people from owning firearms while under restraining orders for domestic abuse? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/United States v. Rahimi. You are welcome to check how many pageviews the nominated article or articles got while on the front page (here's how, United States v. Rahimi), and the hook may be added to the statistics page after its run on the Main Page has completed. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to suggest it on the Did you know talk page.
WikiCup 2023 May newsletter
The second round of the 2023 WikiCup has now finished. Contestants needed to have scored 60 points to advance into round 3. Our top five scorers in round 2 all included a featured article among their submissions and each scored over 500 points. They were:
- Iazyges (1040) with three FAs on Byzantine emperors, and lots of bonus points.
- Unlimitedlead (847), with three FAs on ancient history, one GA and nine reviews.
- Epicgenius (636), a WikiCup veteran, with one FA on the New Amsterdam Theatre, four GAs and eleven DYKs
- BennyOnTheLoose (553), a seasoned competitor, with one FA on snooker, six GAs and seven reviews.
- FrB.TG (525), with one FA, a Lady Gaga song and a mass of bonus points.
Other notable performances were put in by Sammi Brie, Thebiguglyalien, MyCatIsAChonk, PCN02WPS, and AirshipJungleman29.
So far contestants have achieved thirteen featured articles between them, one being a joint effort, and forty-nine good articles. The judges are pleased with the thorough reviews that are being performed, and have hardly had to reject any. As we enter the third round, remember that any content promoted after the end of round 2 but before the start of round 3 can be claimed in round 3. Remember too that you must claim your points within 14 days of "earning" them.
If you are concerned that your nomination—whether it is at good article nominations, a featured process, or anywhere else—will not receive the necessary reviews, please list it on Wikipedia:WikiCup/Reviews Needed (remember to remove your listing when no longer required). Questions are welcome on Wikipedia talk:WikiCup, and the judges are reachable on their talk pages or by email. Good luck! If you wish to start or stop receiving this newsletter, please feel free to add or remove your name from Wikipedia:WikiCup/Newsletter/Send. Sturmvogel 66 and Cwmhiraeth. Question on List of Alexander McQueen collections
I saw that you reviewed this hook (Queue 6: List of Alexander McQueen collections (nom)) and mentioned that it was long enough. As a list it needs to meet the prose requirement if I'm reading WP:DYKCRIT correctly, which excludes tables and lists within the article itself even if it's a list-class article. The DYKCheck gives it only 1154 characters of prose, both now and at the time of review. Is there something I'm overlooking? Thanks. - Aoidh (talk) 21:36, 4 May 2023 (UTC)
- @Aoidh: {{self-trout}}! A total oversight on my part, didn't even see the red-line on DYKcheck (t'was more worried about sources). Will probably need a pull (Courtesy pings to Premeditated Chaos and BorgQueen) theleekycauldron (talk • contribs) (she/her) 21:39, 4 May 2023 (UTC)
- @Aoidh well, perhaps @Premeditated Chaos can fix this quick? BorgQueen (talk) 21:41, 4 May 2023 (UTC)
- You edit-conflicted with me but that's actually what I was going to suggest. I don't want to pull it if it can be fixed and I'm sure with a list that long and detailed that a couple more sentences (346 characters of prose isn't much) could be added so that it doesn't need to be pulled. It's got ~3 days till it hits the main page so hopefully it could be expanded just a bit before then? - Aoidh (talk) 21:44, 4 May 2023 (UTC)
- That's ideal, but I don't see a need to apply that pressure if we don't have to. If PMC is up to it, for sure, i suppose. theleekycauldron (talk • contribs) (she/her) 21:51, 4 May 2023 (UTC)
- Also a fair point. Whichever route PMC wants to take is fine by me. - Aoidh (talk) 21:53, 4 May 2023 (UTC)
- It won't be an issue, I can do it this afternoon. ♠PMC♠ (talk) 22:12, 4 May 2023 (UTC)
- My word counter says I'm now at 1518. How's that? ♠PMC♠ (talk) 23:23, 4 May 2023 (UTC)
- @Aoidh and BorgQueen: DYKcheck clocks 1520, we should be good to go. theleekycauldron (talk • contribs) (she/her) 23:24, 4 May 2023 (UTC)

D2 change
Would you mind adding a link to the discussion for the recent changed to DYK D2 in the attached note? It's not in the talk page, but that isn't surprising. Maury Markowitz (talk) 17:59, 14 May 2023 (UTC)
John Oliver topic
Hey there! I'm currently working on getting a topic about John Oliver put together- his article is a GAN (I hope to get it to FA once it's passed) and his awards list is up at FLC. Whenever these reviews pass, the topic would likely consist of those to articles and (naturally) John Oliver Memorial Sewer Plant, which you promoted to GAN. I'd like to get the sewer plant to FA status, and wanted to confirm with you that it'd be good if I prepared it for FAC- I'm good with co-nominating it with you (which would be preferable as I have another FAC open right now). So, to summarize, may I prepare the sewer plant for FAC, and in the future, put it into a topic? MyCatIsAChonk (talk) (not me) (also not me) (still no) 13:33, 21 May 2023 (UTC)
- I have to respond to comments for Stay Up Late and then it will be a GA -- Guerillero Parlez Moi 14:51, 21 May 2023 (UTC)
- Hey there, MyCatIsAChonk! Ya don't need my permission, of course, but I don't think the article I GAed (ya welcome for SLAPP Suits, by the way) is so easily prepped for FA status. I left some guidance over at Talk:John Oliver Memorial Sewer Plant about this a while back, and I think meeting the "comprehensiveness" requirement requires more coverage of the plant as an actual public institution. Guerillero, always glad to see some art editing :) theleekycauldron (talk • contribs) (she/her) 15:41, 21 May 2023 (UTC)
- I will also say, re: topic status, that I think a lot more episodes deserve articles that don't currently have 'em. The episodes about robocalling, government surveillance, and data purchasing come to mind. Some episodes appear to pass GNG, but it's a mirage: the news coverage is just uncritically regurgitating what happens in the episode, which doesn't count. theleekycauldron (talk • contribs) (she/her) 15:43, 21 May 2023 (UTC)
- Thanks, @Guerillero! On the episode articles, I'm not too sure what to include in the topic and would appreciate your input. Oliver's article and his awards are a given, and I think the sewage plant makes sense too. I'm not entirely sure if there's anything else to include in the topic. IMO, SLAPP Suits and Stay Up Late would be better in a topic about Last Week Tonight, but one could argue that the sewage plant also belongs there. Thoughts? Hello
Have not chatted with you for a bit. I wondered if I could get your opinion on the hook in this Nomination. Bruxton (talk) 14:35, 11 May 2023 (UTC)
- @Bruxton I've had some concerns about that one too. BorgQueen (talk) 14:38, 11 May 2023 (UTC)
- Well it went to errors as it should have. I should have never promoted the hook. Sadly I do not think you are talking to me anymore as this post is 12 days old. I am sorry for any transgressions and I hope you have a great week. Bruxton (talk) 01:32, 24 May 2023 (UTC)
- @Bruxton: I'd be happy to chat! Just assumed that as you'd already decided to promote it, the issue was all wrapped up :) theleekycauldron (talk • contribs) (she/her) 02:04, 24 May 2023 (UTC)

51 DYKs
The 50 DYK Creation and Expansion Medal | ||
Thanks for your contributions to DYK! I've submitted some DYKs recently and saw the List of Wikipedians by Number of DYKs with you at 25 and also saw that you've done a bunch of promotions, so I figured and cross-check the list against your count. Looks like you're overdue for an award! Upjav (talk) 03:44, 24 May 2023 (UTC) |
- Thank ya thank ya, Upjav! At some point, I really should overhaul that whole list :) theleekycauldron (talk • contribs) (she/her) 06:43, 24 May 2023 (UTC)
- Sure thing! Overhauling the list would be nice, but that seems like it would be a beast to update. Maybe if the list could be autogenerated it would be doable, but that's well above my knowledge. Upjav (talk) 14:27, 24 May 2023 (UTC)
