Declined speedy

I hated to do it, but I had to decline the speedy for Brad McKay (doctor) because the show gives him enough of an assertion of notability to pass a speedy. That said, I don't think he has any notability aside of that, so I don't think he'd pass an AfD discussion. A good alternative though would be to create an article for the show and just redirect his article there. I'd do it myself but I'm about to head off for class. History of Creationism

History of Creationism Would love your input on the talk page with regards to this edit[[1]] I may well have missed it but I don't believe I saw anything in the article to support that sentence. SPACKlick (talk) 17:26, 21 January 2014 (UTC)

Porcelain

I'm not going to revert, because I don't see an upside to it, but I think you're wrong here.

This article [2] states quite clearly that toilets ARE made of porcelain. They use that term over and over again, and even use the scientific term for it- Vitreous China. So we ask ourselves- well, are they the same thing? According to this source here [3] , they are the same thing. Vitreous China just has an extra coating added to the porcelain to make it super hard.

So these ARE porcelain toilets.

You have referenced proof, and in light of the references I have given you, I would urge you to self-revert. FluffyPug (talk) 14:21, 22 January 2014 (UTC)

The source above may well show porcelain toilets but the photograph you inserted portrays an earthenware toilet NOT a porcelain one they look quite different, happy to have a photograph of a porcelain toilet in the article though. Theroadislong (talk) 14:28, 22 January 2014 (UTC)

Blackface revert

Why did you revert my edit? Read the sentence. It is misleading. Those people were activists and went to the show because they wanted to spread their word. They were not "spectators", which would imply regular guests.

I reverted it because you didn't supply a reference. Theroadislong (talk) 13:10, 26 January 2014 (UTC)
Actually you are right. I should've given a source.
I looked into the given source (for the whole paragraph) and it provided that fact ( http://www.arte.tv/de/6593686,CmC=6588478.html ). It states that Bühnenwatch (Stage watch) wanted to continue the debate by staging this stunt. Article: John Travis (physician)

Hi there. You may recall contributing to the above article recently with some edits. I raised a few points regarding certain parts of the content and saw that you had responded to some of these but felt it was left hanging slightly. I know you're probably quite busy at the moment but wondered if you might have a look at these points, if you have a moment. Basically, these were:

  • Introduction

Jack being used as the subject’s common name. Also, I included a source that supports the description of the subject as a pioneer of the wellness movement and wondered whether this could be included in the article.

  • Wellness

Correction of Regina Ryan’s collaboration/involvement with the author’s work.

  • Non-government organisations (NGOs)

Request to include the organisation Intact America (founded 2009)

  • External links

Is it worth including the original links to the organisations mentioned in the article as sources of additional information?

  • COI alert

Re the alert, do you still have concerns about the neutrality of the article? If there are parts that should be changed I can have a look at these. If not though, would it be possible to have the alert removed? Fbell74 (talk) 10:23, 4 February 2014 (UTC)

Mental Health Museum

I am the curator of the Mental Health Museum in Wakefield.

I wanted to create a page for the museum as we will be opening in May and we get a lot of enquiries related to social history, family genealogy. We are a not for profit organisation governed by South West Yorkshire Partnership NHS Foundation Trust. We provide services to Service Users, Carers, Staff and the general public along with educational services.

The museum has changed a lot over the year (previously known as Stephen G Beaumont Museum) and we simply wanted to provide information about the museum, the history behind the West Riding Pauper Lunatic collection and the mental health care collection to provide an accessible collection to a wider audience.

We would very much like to have a presence on Wikipedia, like many other museum's so please do let us know what it is we need to do differently so that we do not contravene the rules. We were not finished editing our page when it was deleted.

Victorian Majolica - Lacks images

Apologies for the misunderstanding.

Please can you look at this link http://madelena.com/shop_majolica_discover_article.php to an article we wrote "What is Majolica" and tell me if this link would be acceptable?

The Wikipedia article on Victorian Majolica is very short of images.

Alternatively can I add images (no links or promotion in the captions) adjacent to the relevant text? I am fairly new to all this so thank you.

editing

I object to your calling me disruptive. I am simply trying to correct grammar which is erroneous. Radiohead IS 'a band' so is a singular (collective) noun requiring a singular verb. The common misconception that a collective noun can be a plural entity, simply by virtue of its containing plural constituents, is just that: a misconception. It's just the same as saying "England are a country", and I cannot fathom why that is so difficult to comprehend. Sister ratched (talk) 09:53, 18 February 2014 (UTC)

It is British English syntax please see MOS:PLURALS#Plurals and please check the thousands of other articles on English bands. The plural form of the verb is used in all and is accurate. Your continued changing against consensus is disruptive. Theroadislong (talk) 10:02, 18 February 2014 (UTC)

editing

In that case the consensus is an ass, and is welcome to its idiocy and ignorance. Sister ratched (talk) 10:06, 18 February 2014 (UTC)

That is of course entirely possible. Theroadislong (talk) 10:16, 18 February 2014 (UTC)

Re: Can I talk a second?

I've seen you have edited what I did on the James Buchanan page. Sorry, but please don't do it again. I will try my best to what I edit be proven real, but what I put about Buchanan saying to Lincoln that he was a happy man is true. I've found the proof in a book I own named PRESIDENTS ALL YOU NEED TO KNOW PRESIDENTS: All You Need To Know book by Carter Smith (not to be confused with the film director). Just go to page 94 and it says it. — Preceding unsigned comment added by TheHappyTruckShunter (talkcontribs) 00:54, 19 February 2014 (UTC)

Helston Museum content

Dear Theroadislong,

I am the sole I.T. volunteer for Helston Museum (Previous known as Helston Folk Museum). The content that I added to the museum's page came from the old website. [1] Cornwall Council entered into a contract with South Kerrier Heritage Trust in June 2013 for the trust to take over running the museum. A new website specially designed for museums in Cornwall has limited space for text as the designer made it usable on mobile phones. [2] Therefore, all I am trying to do is copy text from the old cornwall.gov website before it disappears, into Wikipedia where there is obviously more space for text. How does this breach copyright? Surely the copyright has passed to South Kerrier Heritage Trust for their members and volunteers to use for the benefit of the museum and the general public?

Regards,

--Donsyor Lanust (talk) 11:35, 22 February 2014 (UTC)

Hi! I'm afraid I've had to decline the BLPPROD tag you placed on this article. The restrictions on placement of that tag are quite narrow, please see WP:BLPPROD, even self-published or otherwise unreliable sources are enough to prevent placement of the tag. Vandalism

Thanks for reverting the edit on creation evolution controversy, but please try to be careful about assuming good faith for newcomers, particularly with respect to the "vandalism" word included in the warning template you used. The bible describes a 7 day period of creation (in which the last day God rested), and it's certainly possible the editor was confused why we said 6 days in the article. His edit was incorrect, but it certainly wasn't vandalism. A kind explanation probably would have solved the problem, and a welcome template on his talk page might have helped him acclimate a bit better. Anyway, thanks again for the revert, and all your hard work. Just try to be careful about biting! Thanks!   — Jess· Δ 17:32, 17 March 2014 (UTC)

Thanks for having a look at the article. I am not as it happens a gallery staffer, just a York resident who thought that the gallery article needed work. You are right that all the sources emanate ultimately from the gallery, perhaps more than you are aware since everything I found was written by a curator or from a council source at the time they ran it. But I think that is true of all galleries - as you know their collection is always more than what is displayed and when we or somebody else writes about them we are ultimately drawing on those sources unless we conduct original research. I do not see any difference here, or a way out of it. My reason for writing though is that you queried particularly the claim that YAG now holds the largest collection of British studio pottery, either from donations or significant loans. This not a subject I know about but my impression is that this was likely to be true - I would not otherwise have repeated it. You clearly know your pots; do you think there is one bigger, as York will clearly go on making the claim unless challenged? --AJHingston (talk) 10:49, 18 March 2014 (UTC)

I don't know if it's the largest collection of British studio pottery but it does need a third party reference I think, we can't rely on a reference to their own website for such a claim. I'll have a search and see what I can find. Theroadislong (talk) 10:17, 19 March 2014 (UTC)

Help please :)

Hi Theroadislong :) firstly thanks for helping with my 2 subjects xxx. OK regarding edit [5], will rewording it be OK, less promotional. I think Graffiti Kings really have a place on that page being a commercial graffiti art company, & would give the reader a good idea of what a commercial graffiti art company is & even exist in this niche industry, especially as they are the only graffiti art company on Wikipedia. The 2 go hand in hand, fits like a glove. Thanks Sarah1971 19:51, 18 March 2014 (UTC)

Give it a go, but try to word it in keeping with an encyclopedia.Theroadislong (talk) 20:04, 18 March 2014 (UTC)

Is there some odd reason that two revisions are not being allowed on the historicity of Jesus page? The Josephus text is accepted by most scholars as a later Christian forgery, and the Justin excerpt is an ancient source suggesting an early notion of the "Christ myth." Sources were provided (including Van Voorst), more can be added if necessary. Why is this supported balance not being allowed? Neutrality is key, is it not? — Preceding unsigned comment added by MAMcIntosh (talkcontribs) 23:03, 19 March 2014 (UTC)

I'm not sure why EvergreenFir removed these two edits? They seem reasonable enough to me. Maybe ask them or discuss on the article talk page. Theroadislong (talk) 23:12, 19 March 2014 (UTC)
Well I see there is already some discussion on the talk page about this apparently "The quoted phrase does not say that Christians have invented Jesus, it says that they have invented a Messiah. Not the same thing". You could chime in there if you disagree. Theroadislong (talk) 23:18, 19 March 2014 (UTC)

I need to make changes to the Milkweed Editions and Daniel Slager pages. We are a nonprofit -- not trying to make money with promotional material. The pages haven't been updated in years, and I need to correct several inaccuracies. Satellitewalls (talk) 20:18, 2 April 2014 (UTC)

Please read WP:COI You have added overtly promotional unreferenced material and have used two different accounts to do so. Theroadislong (talk) 20:28, 2 April 2014 (UTC)
So far all I have added is "Founded in Minneapolis in 1980, Milkweed Editions is an independent, nonprofit literary publisher. Publishing fifteen to twenty books each year, they have some three hundred titles in print, and nearly four million copies of books in circulation." All of that is noted in the reference section below. I'm not sure how it's overtly promotional, or unreferenced. And there was confusion about which account to edit from but that's sorted out now. Please advise.
I would advise you not to edit the article but make suggestions on the talk page. Theroadislong (talk) 20:39, 2 April 2014 (UTC)

Hi, I am not sure how to correct incorrect information on the Corgi Toys page without it seeming like a conflict of interest. I am the author of two books on the subject, so I know my subject matter. I don't intend to seem to be promoting my books, but a lot of the information cannot be found anywhere else. Catch 22. Sorry what??

We have created a graphic novel adaption of the classic novel 'The Ragged Trousered Philanthropists' by Robert Tressell. It has the blessing of Reg Johnson, late husband of Robert Noonan's (Tressell) granddaughter and keeper of the Robert Tressell Family Papers. Reg was a good friend of ours. The adaption was officially published on Wednesday 23rd April (this week) as it was the centenary of the first publication of the original manuscript. The book has been funded by trade unions. In short, this is an official 'ADAPTION' of the novel.

Can you please explain why you have a problem with my adding this to the article???

Chickens Warrups

Hi Theroadislong,

Thanks for reviewing the new Chickens Warrups article I created (my first on Wikipedia).

Agreed -- Warrups is a borderline entry and I hope other Wikipedia users will weigh in on whether he merits an entry.

I am a journalist who lives in Redding, Connecticut -- in reviewing, updating and amplifying the entry for that town, I noticed there was no mention of Chickens Warrups in that article, and knew that he had significance in the founding of Redding by virtue of claiming title to lands that he then sold to early colonials; and getting in subsequent disputes with settlers.

I decided to create the page after attempting to link to one, and noticing none had been created. I was thinking much in the line of why journalists create sidebars to articles -- amplify information that would otherwise be a digression in the main article, but which is intrinsically noteworthy.

The points that occurred to me on why Chickens Warrups might warrant a Wikipedia article were:

1. His role in the establishment of a U.S. town. 2. His leadership of a village of Indians (by some accounts, about 100 - most of them "disaffected" cohorts who left their previous tribal units) living amongst colonial settlers new to a territory. 3. Historian Charles Burr Todd's statement that Warrups may have attempted to "bring the Mohawks and other western tribes down upon them," which I infer to mean an act of aggression or hostility, and so worthy of a historical record. 4. The fact his grandson was a scout for General Israel Putnam, one of four Major Generals in the Continental Army at the time under George Washington; and that the grandson appears as a character in a Newbury Honor Book of 1975.

I thought there seemed to be sufficient data points that his personality should be preserved in Wikipedia's chronicling of Native American individuals -- but barely. I would be interested to know whether Wikipedia users feel Native Americans who led small, renegade bands merit their own articles.

Talk to you -- hope others weigh in on this.

Casoulman. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Casoulman (talkcontribs) 11:34, 29 April 2014 (UTC)

As an update, on the Teahouse section of Wikipedia another user framed things in a way that I think reinforces your point, and would lead me to delete the Chickens Warrups entry pending additional feedback one way or another, exchange listed below, thanks ...

Hello, CasoulmanThe criterion for accepting a subject for an article in Wikipedia is quite clear and simple, but not what people unused to Wikipedia might expect. It is not importance, fame, or worthiness: it is simply what Wikipedia calls "notability"; in other words, has the subject already been written about in multiple reliable places, independent of the subject, such as major newspapers or books from reputable publishers? The sources do not have to be online, or even in English (though it's easier if they are) but they have to exist, and treat the subject at some length. So, if there have been books, or newspaper or journal articles about these leaders, then they "merit inclusion", and any article must cite these sources to demonstrate this fact. If there haven't been, then no matter how important they were historically, they may not have Wikipedia articles; for the simple reason that it will be impossible to write a satisfactory Wikipedia article about them. --ColinFine (talk) 14:36, 29 April 2014 (UTC)

Okay, thanks ColinFine -- by that standard, my entry on Chickens Warrups would appear to not merit a separate article in Wikipedia, then. I have found multiple historical resources that mention him (colonial records, historical book and mentions in articles published in academic journals), but all reference him in relation to the history of Connecticut, and not profiling him alone as an independent figure of historical significance. I may delete the article I wrote (assuming one can do so), but will wait a few days for any additional comment here. Thanks again ...Casoulman (talk) 14:56, 29 April 2014 (UTC)Casoulman (talk) 15:17, 29 April 2014 (UTC)

Pseudoscientists

With regards to this edit, I understand the implication, but I think it needs to be reliably sourced. I did a google search, and found a bit of stuff about Ham and pseudoscience (though it's hard to find reliable sources), but nothing calling him a pseudo-scientist. StAnselm (talk) 21:24, 30 April 2014 (UTC)

I certainly wouldn't imply he's a "scientist" - he's a science teacher (or was). No, that would need a reliable source as well. The problem is, any material challenged or likely to be challenged must be explicitly attributed to a reliable, published source. StAnselm (talk) 21:51, 30 April 2014 (UTC)

Microdive

Please note that this section has had the Microdive agency added to it because its scuba qualification programmes begin at 5 and 9 metres not 18 as in the case of all others listed. Since the article uses the term entry-level it is only right to make note of the agency which makes the most basic entry level programmes. I am sure that you will agree that it is important that Wikipedia provides unbiased information to its readers and that only true facts are listed for them to read. Since Microdive is a genuine approved scuba training agency which sets the worlds most basic qualification programmes it should be listed along with others who provide entry level programmes or the information will be incorrect. Entry level scuba qualification begins at 5 metres not 18 metres as currently suggested. Thank you. Robert Mini B Hart. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Robert Mini B Hart (talkcontribs)

I've moved this note from the top of the page to the normal position at the bottom. Microdive is approved by UK HSA to issue diving qualifications, but that's all that I've been able to find. It's not recognised by CMAS, EUF or WRSTC so has only a local presence that can be verified so far. If Microdive has any notability, then there should be reliable, independent sources that feature it. The main thing that is important for Wikipedia is that all of the claims made are verifiable by reliable sources. Simply asserting that "Microdive is a genuine approved scuba training agency which sets the worlds most basic qualification programmes" doesn't make it so. --RexxS (talk) 20:29, 9 May 2014 (UTC)

Hi there

I see you changed the Category name to the correct spelling of Wight, but it turned the link red so I've undone it. I've asked for the category name to be changed, which should happen soon, I hope. Cheers Tony Holkham (talk) 22:19, 9 May 2014 (UTC)

You didn't mess up. It was me who was too slow. I asked at the Teahouse and a kind host said they would change it, and must have done so that instant.
By the way, do you know whether there is a list of independent lifeboat organisations anywhere? I think it may deserve an article. I know some - Hamble, Solent, Ryde etc. but there must be many more and I'm trying to update the article List of Lifeboat Disasters in the British Isles.
