Hello. In case you didn't know, when you add content to talk pages and Wikipedia pages that have open discussion, you should sign your posts by typing four tildes ( ~~~~ ) at the end of your comment. You may also click on the signature button   located above the edit window. This will automatically insert a signature with your username or IP address and the time you posted the comment. This is a talk page.

Hi Retroguy, this is a talk page, please refrain from adding multiple links as you did in your proposed new section above. Please sign your edits as this is helpful to other users. --Cyber Fox (talk) 09:14, 23 August 2009 (UTC)

Can't see the problem with the first thing as it's a draft and the links would be added if the text is added to the main article. As for not signing, that's an oversight rather than a deliberate thing. If you check through my edit history you'll find I do normally sign any postings. Consequently I've removed your edit warning. I've started the discussion because I'm interested in people's thoughts on the idea of a section relating to the aftermath. This discussion isn't really relevant to the topic so I'm going to post it to your talk page. Thanks. TheRetroGuy (talk) 13:08, 23 August 2009 (UTC)
Well done for starting the section. I decided to expand it a bit and add the information I collected earlier this morning. I have a feeling if there are more repercussions from the release we might have to split it into a separate article titled something like 'Megrahi release controversy'. TheRetroGuy (talk) 13:54, 23 August 2009 (UTC)
Don't take offence by my comment, I had the same pointed out to me way back and am just trying to be helpful. Funny thing though...I forgot to sign it and had to do another edit!! LOL
I do also agree with your suggestion and was going to start a new section anyway. Feel free to alter the name or comments as you find appropriate. Thanks again! --Cyber Fox (talk) 14:13, 23 August 2009 (UTC)
No worries, no offence taken. Good work on the Ingram stuff by the way. TheRetroGuy (talk) 14:34, 23 August 2009 (UTC)
Cheers! --Cyber Fox (talk) 14:36, 23 August 2009 (UTC)

Hiya, I've noticed the disruption going on at this page, and have sent a message to User:Mcdowb01 accordingly. However, you are also on a bit of a sticky wicket in regards edit warring. I agree that the material should remain, and the edits you have been reverting could be viewed as vandalism, but it's probably not worth taking the chance. If this carries on I'll have to report the matter to the edit warring noticeboard, and I'd hate to see you get blocked over it. Quantpole (talk) 20:15, 12 September 2009 (UTC)

Sunday Night at 10

If knowing what you are talking about counts as a 'conflict of interest' then I must be guilty.

Much of what you have included here is based on relatively one sided press reports involving someone who is no longer presenting this programme. The edits I made to the page were an attempt to make the entry more 'neutral', 'factual' and based on the present. Is a link to the programme's own website a conflict of interest? Must be, as you decided to remove it.....

You have re-edited Clare Teal's entry to state that she has been confirmed as the show's permanent presenter - not helpful and factually inaccurate.

So, how can this be resolved? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Mcdowb01 (talkcontribs) 20:32, 12 September 2009 (UTC)

Can you please check the rules. It is permissable to have this text on the talk page - it is not the main article page. I will write up my own version of the plot/plot overview/history when I have finished reading the book. In the meantime, this can stay as it is. Ivankinsman (talk) 12:49, 9 October 2009 (UTC)
I've removed it again. Firstly, please don't use capital letters when posting messages as you did here. This is considered to be shouting and won't endear you to others. Secondly, I've not heard of it being permissable to post copyrighted text on to a talk page - perhaps you can direct me to the appropriate rule that says it's ok? Personally I think you'd be safer to just provide a link to the site concerned and stay away from posting anything that could be copyright anywhere on Wikipedia - whether it be in the main space or on a talk page. Thanks TheRetroGuy (talk) 12:54, 9 October 2009 (UTC)
Look, I'm afraid you cannot remove anything from the discussion page. It is your responsibility as an editor to find the rule before you delete anything unless it is abusive. So, please leave this as it is. An editor's responsbility is to police the main articles pages. Again, I repeat do not delete this information until you are 100% positive that there is a rule specifying it is permissable to delete it.Ivankinsman (talk) 19:13, 9 October 2009 (UTC)
If this rule exists then it is your duty to highlight it. And you're right, it is the duty of an editor to police pages - all pages. Copyright material is copyright material wherever you place it and it should be deleted. Once again I shall remove it. If you put it back then I'm afraid I'll have to take this further. My advice is to wait until you've read the book before writing the synopsis. Do not place copyright material on Wikipedia. TheRetroGuy (talk) 20:56, 9 October 2009 (UTC)
I am not going to allow it to be removed until you, as the editor, have clarified the rule pertaining to the DISCUSSION PAGE. I am quite willing for you to take this to adjudication so that we can have clarification on this matter.Ivankinsman (talk) 10:33, 10 October 2009 (UTC)
I think you should apply some Common sense here, but you appear to want to go around in circles arguing on pointless technicalities. I for one am tiring of your tendentious behaviour, so I'm taking this to ANI for them to deal with. TheRetroGuy (talk) 22:12, 10 October 2009 (UTC)
Discussion now open. Cheers TheRetroGuy (talk) 22:24, 10 October 2009 (UTC)
O.K. now I have received clarification of Wikipedia's policy, I am quite happy for this to be removed. It was the fact that you were not sure what the policy was that was leading to my 'tendentious behaviour'. This other editor has pointed out exactly what the policy is where clarification was required.Ivankinsman (talk) 07:58, 11 October 2009 (UTC)
I believe you, thousands wouldn't. What I actually said was I'd not heard of this. But having said that my own common sense would have told me that the rules would apply elsewhere as well as in the main space. Assuming you were unsure of the rules regarding copyright, might I suggest that next time you're not sure about something you ask someone. You can do this by placing {{helpme}} on your talkpage or posting a question at the Helpdesk. You'll always find someone who can provide assistance. You've made some good edits in the past so don't spoil it by becoming disruptive when you're not sure about something. Thanks. TheRetroGuy (talk) 11:29, 11 October 2009 (UTC)

Is it possible to semi-protect this page again as edit warring seems to be starting again? Thanks —Preceding unsigned comment added by 132.185.144.124 (talk) 07:30, 21 October 2009 (UTC)

Andrew Peach - Reply

I am very close to naming and shaming the person who I suspect is adapting the page. However, as I am as staff member of the BBC, I'm not going to do such thing. Actually, I know who is editing the page, as I have done my research. The edits are being done via BBC Radio Berkshire itself. I may in fact message TheRetroGuy personally and name him, as this is beyond a joke now and this website is meant to be dedicated to FACTS. Take a look at the BBC Radio Berkshire page on Wiki and see who it says the main presenter is. A station doesn't have a "main" presenter. He seems to be bigged up a heck of a lot on BBC pages, when he is in fact a freelancer. Also, work out who the Breakfast presenter is on BBC Radio Berkshire, and look at the times of the edits. Does this give any clues? Ricky Salmon, Andrea Simmons (and sometimes Fran Godfrey!) are the regular weekend readers, and I can tell you now, Andrew Peach IS a freelancer and only coveres usually every other week. Please could we completeley protect this page as it currently stands, and put a stop to fake information being entered onto Wiki. Thanks.

It is Andrew Peach updating his own bigraphy on Wikipedia. the IP address comes up as BBC in Maidenhead, surely this is self promotion. If you email ANY BBC R2 presenter / news reader, they will tell you that Andrew is ONLY a freelancer! —Preceding unsigned comment added by 80.47.251.5 (talk) 15:24, 22 October 2009 (UTC)

Could we please request a temporary semi-protection for 3 months due to incorrect information being put on page regarding being asked to leave the company due to lateness and being unreliable. This is very much untrue, and I believe this is a personal attack from someone he fell out with at work. He was one of the presenters who was asked to leave because of job cuts. The company shortly went into liquidation. Also, incorrect information on court alligations. The information regarding evidence is not necessary, so have adapted to how I see fit.

Googers

The word has several meanings, but in this respect it's a malapropism old people use when referring to Google [1]. I should've created it as Googer rather than Googers, so I'll do that. I thought it would be useful anyway. TopDec (talk) 16:07, 27 October 2009 (UTC)

The Wall Game

The following was posted in the article on 14 October (see this link). It contains some possibly useful information for future reference so I'm posting it here. TheRetroGuy (talk) 18:55, 15 November 2009 (UTC)

Comment

I appeared on The Wall Game at some point during 1995 and was on Sinitta's team. The other hosts were Helen Bennet, Hal Lerman and Antony John.

Some people will have you believe or do believe that The Wall Game used stage school children for the programs, this is not the case. I attended Hillcross Middle School in Morden, Surrey and myself and numerous other children were chosen to appear on The Wall Game judged on out (i believe) acting abilities after being monitored in drama class. Only the other day I shamed myself by showing my own children the program featuring me on DVD that someone had kindly copied from VHS for me.

The styling on the program was awful, we all turned up in our 'sunday best' and ITV/Thames Television made us wear hideous pastel coloured outfits with stupid bows in our hair (if a girl obviously).

Kingsbury, Warwickshire

Hi Retroguy

I do feel you are not being very reasonable about the Kingsbury Warwickshire page; the words I added are the same ones you have added to the Kingsbury School page.

This is not just a school issue because the pool is used by nine other schools; I respected your first edit about campaigning and dropped the reference to Swimclub, replacing it with a simple statement of fact.

I cannot see anything wrong with what I have been trying to post, especially (as said above) the words are virtually the same as the ones you have added to the Kingsbury School page.

The issue affects many in the Kingsbury area and is therefore both appropriate and reasonable on the Kingsbury page.

Please state more clearly what your exact objections are,

Broomhillsaved (talk) 01:43, 21 November 2009 (UTC)

It specifically says on the Kingsbury Warwickshire page that the pool is open to the public ie not solely for use by Kingsbury School; it's also used by nine other schools, approx 500 children a week and is therefore relevant to a much wider area than just the school alone.

As said before, I dropped the reference to the campaign thread after your first objection and replaced it with words almost identical to the ones you had used on the School page; I also added the Kingsbury Parish Council website for verification purposes.

If the words that you have used on the Kingsbury School page are acceptable to you (because you have chosen them), then I just cannot see why you are still objecting: there is no direct mention of any campaign; there is a third party verification and there is a simple statement of fact that Warwickshire County Council are intending to withdraw funding.

Where does the problem lie?

Broomhillsaved (talk) 23:14, 23 November 2009 (UTC)

I find your last objection interesting: if it's relevant to state on the Kingsbury page that it has a facility like a school swimming pool which is open to the public, then at what stage are you going to alter that? Wait until the pool is no more and then just erase that particular detail??

Do log onto the ThisisTamworth website and put Kingsbury Pool in the search box - it throws up letters from the over 50's group, from people who live in the area around Kingsbury etc.

Perhaps Wikipedia SHOULD be recording the threat to playing fields etc! After all these things form the fabric of communities and gradually change the whole cultural life of Britain.

Earlier this year, for instance, Sedgemoor District Council closed the only public swimming pool in Bridgwater (Sedgemoor Splash) and sold the site to Tesco's. They want to annex the small park behind the pool site too, apparently. Local residents say they need yet another supermarket like a hole in the head, but are desperate to get their pool back. Sedgemoor DC are saying that there will probably be a new pool out at Chilton Trinity in a few years time.

Oh, by the way... Just a quick notice that you might want to link articles in wikipedia by writing - for example - [[Watchman (novel)]] which shows as Watchman (novel)... Instead of [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Watchman_(novel)] which shows as [3]. You can also make link to show different text than the article it links to by writing, for example, [[Watchman (novel)|this is a link]] which shows as this is a link.  Ilyushka88 Talk to me 14:52, 14 December 2009 (UTC)
