Welcome

edit

Hello, ThrowTheBar2, and welcome to Wikipedia! My name is Yunshui, and I am your Online Ambassador for Dr Mynlieff's Neurobiology course. My job here is to help you work within Wikipedia's policies and guidelines, to answer any questions that you have about editing here, and to act as your advocate in the (unlikely) event that you find yourself in a dispute with another user.

You are welcome to contact me at any time by leaving a message on my Wikipedia talkpage or by emailing me. I will respond to any messages within 24 hours (though I aim to be faster!), but if you need more immediate help, you can ask questions of experienced editors at The Teahouse or get live help via Wikipedia's IRC channel (connect here).

Here are some pages that you might find helpful:

Please remember to sign your messages on talk pages by typing four tildes (~~~~); this will automatically insert your username and the date. Once again, if you need help with any aspect of Wikipedia, please just ask; it's what I'm here for. Enjoy your course! Yunshui  09:34, 28 January 2013 (UTC)Reply

ThrowTheBar2, where is your userpage with links and image?--MMBiology (talk) 23:35, 30 January 2013 (UTC)Reply

In case you need help adding an image to your userpage I've prepared a short essay here to explain the basic process. Yunshui  11:11, 31 January 2013 (UTC)Reply

Pictures

edit

I'm afraid you can't just link to files on your computer from Wikipedia. If the picture you want to use is one you own the copyright to (i.e. you took it) then please upload it to Wikimedia Commons before using it. See the essay I linked to above for more information. Citations

edit

Good use of the {{cite}} template on your userpage. For more details on how to cite references in articles, check this out. Yunshui  08:21, 4 February 2013 (UTC)Reply

Formatting

edit

Just in case you weren't already aware: if you leave a space at the start of a line, the subsequent text will appear in a code box

like this

To remove the effect, simply delete the space at the start of the line.

If you want to indent text on a talk page

like this
or this

you should use a colon or series of colons
:like this
::or this
Hope that's useful. Yunshui  09:21, 18 February 2013 (UTC)Reply

Don't forget to put the educational banner on the talk page for senile plaques so that others know this was edited for a class.MMBiology (talk) 14:48, 24 March 2013 (UTC)Reply

A barnstar for you!

  The Original Barnstar
For bravely branching out and editing other pages outside of your course's remit (and doing so well, with sources), I award you your first barnstar! Yunshui  08:16, 27 March 2013 (UTC)Reply
Very cool. ThrowTheBar, I noticed as well. First Barnstar for any of my students!--MMBiology (talk) 17:15, 27 March 2013 (UTC)Reply

Help us improve the Wikipedia Education Program

edit

Hi ThrowTheBar2! As a student editor on Wikipedia, you have a lot of valuable experience about what it's like to edit as a part of a classroom assignment. In order to help other students like you enjoy editing while contributing positively to Wikipedia, it's extremely helpful to hear from real student editors about their challenges, successes, and support needs. Please take a few minutes to answer these questions by clicking below. (Note that the responses are posted to a public wiki page.) Thanks!
