Great job

I wanted to say, as someone who has many of the election articles on my watch list, great job with the presidential maps and thanks for adding them. Don't let the bot messages fool you - your work is appreciated! :) I'm particularly interested to see one for the 1860 election if you plan to do that one. Hello, and welcome to Wikipedia! We welcome and appreciate your contributions, such as Allen B. Morse, but we regretfully cannot accept copyrighted text or images borrowed from either web sites or printed material. This article appears to be a copy from http://www.micourthistory.org/bios.php?id=39, and therefore a copyright violation. The copyrighted text has been or will soon be deleted. While we appreciate contributions, we must require all contributors to understand and comply with our copyright policy. Wikipedia takes copyright violations very seriously, and persistent violators will be blocked from editing.

If you believe that the article is not a copyright violation, or if you have permission from the copyright holder to release the content freely under allowance license, then you should do one of the following:

It may also be necessary for the text be modified to have an encyclopedic tone and to follow Wikipedia article layout. For more information on Wikipedia's policies, see Wikipedia's policies and guidelines.

If you would like to begin working on a new version of the article you may do so at this temporary page. Leave a note at Talk:Allen B. Morse saying you have done so and an administrator will move the new article into place once the issue is resolved. Thank you, and please feel welcome to continue contributing to Wikipedia. Happy editing! œ 23:54, 28 June 2009 (UTC)Reply

Hi. Thank you for your efforts to rewrite this article to address copyright concerns, but unfortunately rewriting means putting it entirely into your own words, and your revisions remained an infringement of that source, unless we can verify authorization. For instance, your article said:

Morse served in a number of different capacities during the Civil War as a member of Michigan's 16th Infantry and as a First Lieutenant, and later as an Adjutant, with the 21st Michigan Infantry.

The source says:

Morse served in a number of different capacities during the Civil War as a member of Michigan's 16th Infantry and as a First Lieutenant, and later as an Adjutant, with the 21st Michigan Infantry

As you can see, these passages are identical. Our copyright policies do not allow us to duplicate text from non-free websites except in accordance with the policy and guideline for non-free content. Since there is no verification of permission, this article has had to be deleted. If you have by chance obtained permission and sent that letter under the instructions above, it will be restored when that letter is processed. Thank you. --Moonriddengirl (talk) 15:20, 6 July 2009 (UTC)Reply

File permission problem with File:GeorgeSMcGovern.png

File Copyright problem

Thanks for uploading File:GeorgeSMcGovern.png. I noticed that while you provided a valid copyright licensing tag, there is no proof that the creator of the file agreed to license it under the given license.

If you created this media entirely yourself but have previously published it elsewhere (especially online), please either

  • make a note permitting reuse under the CC-BY-SA or another acceptable free license (see this list) at the site of the original publication; or
  • Send an email from an address associated with the original publication to permissions-en@wikimedia.org, stating your ownership of the material and your intention to publish it under a free license. You can find a sample permission letter here.

If you did not create it entirely yourself, please ask the person who created the file to take one of the two steps listed above, or if the owner of the file has already given their permission to you via email, please forward that email to permissions-en@wikimedia.org.

If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair use, and add a rationale justifying the file's use on the article or articles where it is included. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have provided evidence that their copyright owners have agreed to license their works under the tags you supplied, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Files lacking evidence of permission may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. 72.88.78.193 (talk) 05:45, 5 August 2009 (UTC)Reply

File source problem with File:WilliamJenningsDemorest.png

edit

Thank you for uploading File:WilliamJenningsDemorest.png. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, please add a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a brief restatement of that website's terms of use of its content. However, if the copyright holder is a party unaffiliated from the website's publisher, that copyright should also be acknowledged.

If you have uploaded other files, consider verifying that you have specified sources for those files as well. You can find a list of files you have created in your upload log. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged per Wikipedia's criteria for speedy deletion, F4. If the image is copyrighted and non-free, the image will be deleted 48 hours after 01:20, 30 August 2010 (UTC) per speedy deletion criterion F7. Speedy deletion nomination of File:1952EisenhowerStevenson.svg

edit

A tag has been placed on File:1952EisenhowerStevenson.svg requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section F1 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the image is an unused redundant copy (all pixels the same or scaled down) of an image in the same file format, which is on Wikipedia (not on Commons), and all inward links have been updated.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, contest the deletion by clicking on the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion". Doing so will take you to the talk page where you will find a pre-formatted place for you to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. You can also visit the page's talk page directly to give your reasons, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Better source request for some of your uploads

edit

Thanks for your uploads to Wikipedia. There is an issue with some of them, specifically:

You provided a source, but it is difficult for other users to examine the copyright status of the images because the source is incomplete. Please consider clarifying the exact source so that the copyright status may be checked more easily. It is best to specify the exact Web page where you found the images, rather than only giving the source domain or the URL of the image files themselves. Please update the image descriptions with URLs that will be more helpful to other users in determining the copyright status.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source in a complete manner. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. There are an estimated 30,000 different varieties of United States banknotes, yet only a fraction of these are represented on Wikimedia Commons in the form of 2D scans. Additionally, Colonial America, the Confederate States, the Republic of Texas, multiple states and territories, communities, and private companies have issued banknotes that are in the public domain today but are absent from Commons.

In the months of November and December, WikiProject Numismatics will be running a cross-wiki upload-a-thon, the 2019 US Banknote Contest. The goal of the contest is to increase the number of US banknote images available to content creators on all Wikimedia projects. Participants will claim points for uploading and importing 2D scans of US banknotes, and at the end of the contest all will receive awards. Whether you want to claim the Gold Wiki or you just want to have fun, all are invited to participate.

If you do not want to receive invitations to future US Banknote Contests, follow the instructions here

Proposed deletion of File:ArthurPGorman.png

edit

The file File:ArthurPGorman.png has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

unused, low-res, no obvious use

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated files}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the file's talk page.

Please consider addressing the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated files}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and files for discussion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion.

Virginia county results on your 1880 presidential map

edit

In this map of yours, some counties in the western part of Virginia, such as Buchanan County and Dickinson County are said to have voted for the Readjuster Party, which is in direct contradiction with the official results from 1880 United States presidential election in Virginia, as well as this page. Should these be changed? Politicsfan4 (talk) 01:23, 15 December 2020 (UTC)Reply

Sources on County Data

edit

Hi Tilden76, I hope you are well. I was curious on your sources for county level election data, especially for elections pre-1832. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Psyduckcham (talkcontribs) 19:57, 3 November 2021 (UTC)Reply

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. An automated process has detected that when you recently edited 1856 Republican National Convention, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page William Elder. Such links are usually incorrect, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of unrelated topics with similar titles. (Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.)

It's OK to remove this message. Also, to stop receiving these messages, follow these opt-out instructions. Thanks, DPL bot (talk) 06:07, 8 January 2023 (UTC)Reply
