Male privilege close

The following discussion is closed. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on the appropriate discussion page. No further edits should be made to this discussion.

Hi Timothy! Are you still planning to close the RFC at Talk:Male privilege? If so, can you throw a {{closing}} tag up at its entry at WP:ANRFC (that's how I found it). If you're not planning to close it, please let me know and I'll be happy to. Thanks, Levivich [dubious – discuss] 17:27, 2 March 2020 (UTC)

Levivich, Nice to talk with you again :) I thought NightHeron had already closed it, but I went ahead and did it. (My first time, please let me know if I made any errors). Hope all is well.   // Timothy :: talk  18:19, 2 March 2020 (UTC)
Great–thanks! Of course, no good deed goes unpunished and there's unfortunately more paperwork to do.
  1. You should add the {{closed rfc top}} and {{closed rfc bottom}} templates to Talk:Male privilege#RfC about sociological concept vs phenomenon, summarizing the result. (The summary you wrote at ANRFC looks fine to me to use, but feel free to modify it if you'd like.) This will let talk page watchers (and anyone reading the talk page archives in the future) know that the discussion was closed and what the result was, without having to read the whole RFC to find out. See WP:RFCEND for more detailed instructions. I highly recommend instead of messing with the {{closed rfc top}} and bottom templates, you just install the User:DannyS712/DiscussionCloser script, if you don't already have it, as it makes closing discussions much, much easier. (Also, if you don't already have it enabled, turn on the script installer in your preferences, as it makes it much easier to install scripts like DiscussionCloser.)
  2. At the WP:ANRFC entry, add |done=yes to the {{initiated}} template in the listing. This tells the bot to go ahead and archive that entry.
The instructions are scattered unfortunately, so it's not at all clear that these are the steps to follow. I've started a thread at WT:ANRFC about it. Let me know if you have any questions and thanks again for closing this RFC! Levivich [dubious – discuss] 18:34, 2 March 2020 (UTC)
Sorry – I know this is confusing – the {{closed rfc top}} template should go at the article talk page (Talk:Male privilege#RfC about sociological concept vs phenomenon), and not at the requests-for-closure page, WP:ANRFC#Talk:Male privilege#RfC about sociological concept vs phenomenon (where the section heading is the same exact heading as the article talk page, to maximize confusion). So the close and the closing result is recorded in the same thread where the RFC happened (Talk:Male privilege#RfC about sociological concept vs phenomenon), and at WP:ANRFC, the only thing that needs to be recorded is that it's {{done}} (and |done=yes added to the initiated template so the bot will archive it). The actual result of the close does not need to be recorded at ANRFCC – there, nobody cares about the result of the RFCs, it's just a to-do list of RFCs that need to be closed, so we only care if it's {{done}}, {{not done}} for some reason (i.e., closure not needed because it's moot), {{doing}} (close in progress), or none of the above (still needs someone's attention). Make sense? Levivich [dubious – discuss] 18:56, 2 March 2020 (UTC)
Levivich, I think I've got it now (I saw the example you had done on the page). This has been a fun learning morning (well for me, maybe not you ;) I'm going to look into the script installer you suggested. Since you mentioned no good deed goes unpunished, I might send a few questions your way in that regard.   // Timothy :: talk  19:23, 2 March 2020 (UTC)

Better source request for File:Creation.vio.criminals.jpg

Thanks for your upload to Wikipedia:

You provided a source, but it is difficult for other users to examine the copyright status of the image because the source is incomplete or generic. Please consider clarifying the exact source so that the copyright status may be checked more easily. It is best to specify the exact source (such as the web page, or printed document) where you found the image, rather than only giving the source domain, search engine, pinboard, aggregator, or the direct/bare URL of the image file itself. Please update the image description with a URL that will be more helpful to other users in determining the copyright status.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source in a complete manner. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. If you have any questions please ask them at Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. Thank you. — Ирука13 04:20, 3 August 2023 (UTC)

About the removal of changes to the article on "Old Serbia"

I don't understand how the change can be considered controversial. Until the Second World War, there was a thriving community of Serbs in the western part of today's North Macedonia. All of them called the part of Macedonia, where they lived and, for a time, made up the majority of the population, Old Serbia. This term was also used by travel writers from the West who visited the area from mid 19th to early 20th century. He is a historical fact. Today, it is very outdated, and the majority of the population in that area is of Albanian or Macedonian origin, so it is no longer used for a reason. But to say that the existence of the term in the past is a figment of someone's imagination is a dangerous political revision of history harmful to everyone. 94.189.167.200 (talk) 12:45, 30 August 2023 (UTC)

Administrators' newsletter – September 2023

News and updates for administrators from the past month (August 2023).

  Guideline and policy news

  • Following an RfC, TFAs will be automatically semi-protected the day before it is on the main page and through the day after.
  • A discussion at WP:VPP about revision deletion and oversight for dead names found that [s]ysops can choose to use revdel if, in their view, it's the right tool for this situation, and they need not default to oversight. But oversight could well be right where there's a particularly high risk to the person. Use your judgment.

  Technical news

  Arbitration

  • The SmallCat dispute case has closed. As part of the final decision, editors participating in XfD have been reminded to be careful about forming local consensus which may or may not reflect the broader community consensus. Regular closers of XfD forums were also encouraged to note when broader community discussion, or changes to policies and guidelines, would be helpful.

  Miscellaneous

  • Tech tip: The "Browse history interactively" banner shown at the top of Special:Diff can be used to easily look through a history, assemble composite diffs, or find out what archive something wound up in.
