Welcome and Thanks

edit

Tomfriedel, Again, thanks for your pictures. They have all been of extremely high quality and have really improved the articles. I went ahead and plugged your picture of the Golden Conure in the taxobox. If there is another image already in there and you honestly think that yours is better, feel free to put yours in, so long as you place the former taxobox pic in the article somewhere. Also, if you do have a question about putting a picture in, you may get a faster response from the WP:BIRD talk page than on an individual article. Feel free to bug me too if you want. Again, thanks for your pictures, and I hope you enjoy Wikipedia. Oh, and to sign your username, scroll down past the edit summary on the editing page; there is a button below the big GFDL that will plug in the tildes for you. Tom, I notice you are challenging the copyright of some images uploaded by Snowmanradio. He's usually very careful about getting permission from the photographer, so can I suggest that you chat with him before removing any more images? Jimfbleak - talk to me? 06:27, 22 October 2009 (UTC)Reply

If "©" is written on an image, it is less important than the actual copyright license given to the image. For information here is a list of some flickr licences. It would be useful, if you would add {{watermark}} on the commons file to list the image to have the watermark removed. Please note that this template has a different use on the en wiki. I enjoy seeing your photographs, I think that you have better examples of the Austral Parakeet than the wiki and we do not have a White-eared Parakeet. Copied from the Woodcreeper talk page The copyright sign that is written on the image is nothing to do with the type copyright licence given to the image. This image appears on the wiki appropriately. The fickr license is appropriate. Further the author kindly changed the flickr licence after a request to use his photographs here. The request to Micheal was through liaison work by User Richard001 towards the end of October 2008. Michael kindly changed the flickr licence to creative commons with permission to freely share and adapt the work - there are no commercial-use restrictions. The copyright deed is here, which is approved for images on the wiki and commons. Snowman (talk) 13:27, 22 October 2009 (UTC)Reply

Woodruff puts a copyright symbol on his images and writes:

All of my photos are copyrighted All Rights Reserved, so please contact me before using my photos for any use.
However, a number of my photos, especially from Ecuador, are licensed under a Share-alike Creative Commons license in order to be incorporated in Wikipedia pages. If you want to use them for other means aside from Wikipedia, please contact me first.
The fact that he checked a Creatve Commons box seems irrelevant when he puts his policy in writing. This seems to be a Wikipedia-only image, for which I have posted documentation that it is not allowed.unsigned edit by User:Tomfriedel.

I did my best to explain what he was doing by changing the license, so if he has changed them to a compatible license I don't see why we can't use them. If a Wikipedian uploaded many of their own images and then at some later date said on their user page "all of my images are only for use on Wikipedia", would we allow this and delete all their uploads? Richard001 (talk) 20:49, 22 October 2009 (UTC)Reply
Also, a lot of other images I upload have watermarks with copyright symbols in them. I'm not going to ask people to upload a new version without the watermark, otherwise I will get fewer people releasing images and the process will take longer. Richard001 (talk) 20:54, 22 October 2009 (UTC)Reply
If an image has more than one licence, then the least restrictive licence applies. People do add police optional requests to keep them informed about the image use, but it does not invalidate the creative commons licence. Also, creative commons licences can not be denounced.
