Summary request

edit

When editing an article on Wikipedia there is a small field labeled "Edit summary" under the main edit-box. It looks like this:

The text written here will appear on the Recent changes page, in the page revision history, on the diff page, and in the watchlists of users who are watching that article. See m:Help:Edit summary for full information on this feature.

Filling in the edit summary field greatly helps your fellow contributors in understanding what you changed, so please always fill in the edit summary field, especially for big edits or when you are making subtle but important changes, like changing dates or numbers. Thank you. — Chris53516 (Talk) 14:45, 11 January 2007 (UTC)Reply

Dvořák's wife

edit

Thanks! (Two months belatedly :) ) Re Anna Dvořáková - I've seen this surname given at another point given to a descendant of Dvořák's rather than to his wife's but will have a look at the biography of course. And in regards the myth (and it has grown into one in the strict sense whether true or false :) ) in question - documentary primary sources are hopefully still available, and are the main thing even if they don't always allow a conclusive judgment. Will be happy to look into that too (soon)- interesting topic in the life of a wonderful and influential composer. Schissel | Sound the Note! 14:36, 18 November 2007 (UTC)Reply

The < math > environment

edit

Hi, I would like to direct your attention to the Manual of Style (mathematics). In general, it is not a good idea to force PNG rendering of math formulas that are displayed inline. This can cause text alignment issues, so it typically is better to use either the \scriptstyle environment or wiki markup to render mathematical formulas inline. If you want to force PNG rendering, it is generally a better idea to do it on a separate line. Thanks, and happy editing! siℓℓy rabbit (talk) 22:19, 8 July 2008 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for your comment. Each editing I did I tested and the displayed PNG rendering was much better than one without it. I did this editing because I found in another place a recomendation to force PNG rendering for those formulas that come up incorrectly displayed. TomyDuby (talk) 01:16, 9 July 2008 (UTC)Reply
If the formula doesn't display correctly, I think it is better to use wiki markup syntax. Thus, if you don't like the way   looks, then you should mark it up like this: c(t) = (x(t),y(t)) rather than forcing the rendering like this  . In general, this should only be done as a last resort, when a formula cannot be suitably typeset by other means. siℓℓy rabbit (talk) 01:34, 9 July 2008 (UTC)Reply
OK. I am accepting your point.TomyDuby (talk) 11:36, 9 July 2008 (UTC)Reply

No, not yet. I have another idea for it, but if that doesn't work, I don't know what will. Jkasd 01:23, 15 July 2008 (UTC)Reply

Proposed deletion of Polygon Diameter

edit

A proposed deletion template has been added to the article Polygon Diameter, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but this article may not satisfy Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and the deletion notice should explain why (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why you disagree with the proposed deletion in your edit summary or on its talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised because even though removing the deletion notice will prevent deletion through the proposed deletion process, the article may still be deleted if it matches any of the speedy deletion criteria or it can be sent to Articles for Deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. Samuel Tan 10:43, 23 July 2008 (UTC)Reply

Saw your message on Talk:Polygon Diameter. Well, I was just following a Wikipedia guideline (WP:NAD) in proposing deletion. Anyway, I see that the articles have been merged now. Probably better this way. Cheers! -Samuel Tan 01:01, 24 July 2008 (UTC)Reply
What do you mean "the articles have been merged now"? I still see no "polygon diameter" in Polygon. TomyDuby (talk) 01:32, 24 July 2008 (UTC)Reply

Style manuals

edit

Hello. Please see my edits to random Fibonacci sequence. It is incorrect to capitalize the iniitial "s"; see Wikipedia:Manual of Style. Also, one should use complete sentences and set the title phrase in bold early in the article. And some initial context-setting, at least telling the lay reader that mathematics is what it's about, is needed. Michael Hardy (talk) 13:06, 25 August 2008 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for your comments. Accepted. TomyDuby (talk) 18:51, 25 August 2008 (UTC)Reply

Julius Weingarten

edit

Hello. At some time in the very near future, you should add to the article on Julius Weingarten some reason to consider him notable enough to be the topic of an encyclopedia article. Otherwise, those who concern themselves with such things will tag the article for speedy deletion. Michael Hardy (talk) 03:42, 1 September 2008 (UTC)Reply

Hi. When you recently edited Travelling Light, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Nicholas Wright (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver).
