Cloud Gate again

This sentence keeps coming up in review: "The plates were covered with protective white film and polished 98% before being sent to Chicago via trucks." No one is quite sure what it means. Is this a typo from Gilfoyle's book? Do you know what he was trying to say? --TorsodogTalk 14:17, 1 October 2008 (UTC)

GA/Recent

Nobody actually puts delisted pages there. Check the history, there are about 150 new listings for every one time somebody bothers adding a delisted article. Additionally, the point of the recent list is to show off the latest promotions to the community at large. For recent delistings, it makes sense to notify related WikiProjects and the page's main editors, yes, but not everyone.

Essentially, putting delisted pages on /recent is saying "hey everybody, come read this article we decided wasn't well-written enough to deserve community recognition!" The contradiction there should be pretty obvious. --erachima talk 17:03, 1 October 2008 (UTC)

Important to the subject editors, yes, but not to everyone else. None of the other content recognition processes list recently demoted content. --erachima talk 19:16, 1 October 2008 (UTC)

Bot work

Sorry, it's been a week and I have 68 articles to tag. I can't get my program to work for some reason; but I wanted to let you know I was on it. §hep¡Talk to me! 20:23, 8 October 2008 (UTC)

Scratch that. I did it manually. Got one new GA for the project as well. §hep¡Talk to me! 20:48, 8 October 2008 (UTC)
As from below. Seems some users are a bit touchy with something as simple as a tag. The GA I got was Talk:Homerpalooza.
Seems it got tagged 3 times by the bot. Too bad they didn't look at its page on how to make the bot ignore it. I blocked it from the page so you shoudln't have any more complaints. §hep¡Talk to me! 03:54, 9 October 2008 (UTC)

Homerpalooza

The Simpsons episode Homerpalooza has absolutely nothing to do with Chicago, in fact, the word Chicago isn't even mentioned in it. So, why should it be part of the Chicago wikiproject solely because it's in the Smashing Pumpkins category? -- Scorpion0422 21:12, 8 October 2008 (UTC)

Userspace header

Just to let you know, your userpage and talk page header is messed up, as in all the icons for GAs cover the lower text instead of going right across. You might want to fix. Best wishes, -- how do you turn this on 01:19, 9 October 2008 (UTC)

Ah, I hadn't noticed, another editor reverted my addition of the second Amber Halliday pic. The swimming was very impressive although I was hoping Australia would win 9-10 golds. Gilbert Perreault under GA review

Hi there, I see that you are a contributor to the article Gilbert Perreault. This article has come under review for Good article reassessment as part of GA Sweeps and a number of problems have been identified which are listed on the talk page. Please begin to address these points in the next seven days or the article will be delisted from GA and will have to go through the GAN process all over again to regain its status once improvements have been made. If you have any questions, please drop me a line.--Jackyd101 (talk) 00:01, 11 October 2008 (UTC)

Statewide officials templates

Hi Tony, thanks for the encouraging message. I think include the judiciaries, but with the "(elected)" or "(appointed)" qualifiers that I've now added to the other templates' groupnames. I guess individual persons' names that would probably stay redlinked could simply be left unlinked..? (I think people would prefer see a list of names and at least one link, to the article on the state's supreme court, on all templates rather than some.) If you think this would be okay, I'll dig out and reinstate the CA and FL judiciary lists you created then removed, otherwise disable whatever you think should be disabled. Sardanaphalus (talk) 03:24, 12 October 2008 (UTC)

  • Okay, I've reinserted "elected" in the templates' titles -- I'd accidentally removed it -- and have disabled the non-elected judicial groups, at least for the time being. I'm not sure where a good place to canvass opinions might be -- WikiProject Politics? Sardanaphalus (talk) 13:22, 12 October 2008 (UTC)
  • Thanks for the prompt to check whether the templates are still on appointed justices' pages. They're now gone -- except for NY, due to this; I've pointed SMP0328 toward the WikiProject threads you've started (thanks also for those). Sardanaphalus (talk) 05:02, 13 October 2008 (UTC)

I've replaced your post on the WikiProject Law talkpage with a link to the same at WikiProject Politics, as that's where the discussion seems to be happening. Hope that's okay. Sardanaphalus (talk) 01:07, 14 October 2008 (UTC)

Merle Reskin Theatre

DevorahLeah (talk) 04:21, 13 October 2008 (UTC) Tony, I am sorry to be slow with adding to the current article-- just finished the manuscript for my 4th book, and now that I can actually take a few minutes to do other things, I wanted to get moving on this. First, a query about something entirely outside of your page-- but since you know a lot about Wikipedia and I don't, can you tell me why the essay I wrote about Herb Jepko was classified a stub? I wrote to whoever I thought one is supposed to write to, but nobody ever responded, making me sad indeed, given all the work I put into it...

Now for the Merle Reskin Theatre -- unless I am reading it wrong, it seems like it already has a lot of information, although of course, I have quite a bit I will be adding to the early years, when it was the Blackstone. You mean it still isn't a GA? I love making articles GAs!!! What is it missing?

DevorahLeah (talk) 08:30, 17 October 2008 (UTC)Thanks Tony-- you are the best of all possible editors. About Jepko, thanks for the explanation, but I thought it did meet wiki standards-- I mean, I see that it DOES have an info box, for example. I'll try to work on it some more.

As for the Merle Reskin, I'm gonna work on that in the next day or two, but as always, I am still uncertain how to do the citations correctly, so you'll have to bear with me and clean them up when I add them in.

DevorahLeah (talk) 09:03, 19 October 2008 (UTC) Okay, as promised, I did some re-writing, and added all sorts of stuff from the 1910s through 1930; as time permits, I will try to find more. Again my apologies for not knowing how to do the footnotes, and I hope what I added helps it to get closer to GA.

GA nominations

Hello, I noticed that you have a few articles nominated at WP:GAN. If you could review one or more good article nominations to help reduce the backlog and waiting time, it would be greatly appreciated. Help and advice on how to do so is available at Wikipedia:Reviewing good articles, and you can ask for the help of a GAN mentor, if you wish. I added ussc citations to this article. The best search engine for case law is actually google. You just to type Wilson v. Layne and it will give you all necessary refs. Or you also can browse oyez.

Unfortunately, the use of templates is not possible now. The cases related to elections in Ohio are too new, and they have not been officially published in Federal Reporter (sixth circuit) or in United States Reports (Supreme Court). Templates actually need volume and page numbers in those publications. The decisions will appear in a month or two. I have not searched Ohio Supreme Court, but think that the situation is the same. Leo Strauss photo

Hi Tony,
I ran into you at the Talk:Ernest Hemingway/GA1 discussion a month or so ago and would like to send a request your way. Can you take a look at this and let me know if either you or someone else at the WikiProject Chicago would be interesting in lending a helping hand? It relates to obtaining a photo of Strauss and in addition perhaps other notable 20th-century faculty & alumni from the University of Chicago. Alpha Phi Omega and Michelle Obama

Looking for a way to properly include this. The fact that she was an advisor to the rechartering chapter at University of Chicago was first brought to my attention with the following post on greekchat. http://www.greekchat.com/gcforums/showpost.php?p=1655320&postcount=142 I contacted the Alpha Phi Omega national office and spoke to the Director of Chapter Services (second in command at the national office) who did confirm that. I have also accessed the Fraternity's databases to verify the fact that she is a member, however access to that database is not public. While I might feel comfortable using the Greekchat posting on some other pages, on a high profile page like this, not so much. Looking forward to your advice. Naraht (talk) 20:42, 23 October 2008 (UTC)

Looking forward to when the Fraternity publishes the information on on more public level about her membership. At that point, I feel it will go ahead and add it.Naraht (talk) 15:41, 27 October 2008 (UTC)

Hi Tony! I know we have clashed, but your contributions are invaluable to the human pursuit of knowledge. Can we let bygones be bygones? I know you act chill in all you do around here, but you're human, you must hold opinions off wiki that you don't express on wiki. So I am offering to let everything go, do you accept? --IvoShandor (talk) 15:22, 27 October 2008 (UTC)

Re: GAList

Great idea. I've thought about GA medals before. But yes, I would like to set a system up. Any reason why you chose me?Mitch32(UP) 15:27, 27 October 2008 (UTC)

Well, I've retired the bot maintaining idea - because its too impossible according to Rick Block, the one who runs them. We'd have to have someone dedicate their time to updating it. Also, the rate of GAs goes so quick, there would be dozens of edits a day. If we keep a list like DYK's, that would be best. (You and I combined have 210 Good Articles). But thanks saying that I do care. :) - Mitch32(UP) 15:49, 27 October 2008 (UTC)
