Hi. As you recently commented in the straw poll regarding the ongoing usage and trial of Pending changes, this is to notify you that there is an interim straw poll with regard to keeping the tool switched on or switching it off while improvements are worked on and due for release on November 9, 2010. This new poll is only in regard to this issue and sets no precedent for any future usage. Your input on this issue is greatly appreciated. Off2riorob (talk) 23:51, 20 September 2010 (UTC)Reply

Question

edit

{{helpme}} I don't know what half the lingo means, (TROLL, DRAMA,...). Does it make people mad it you see a comment on there talk page and want to say something, an opinion? It's like butting in I suppose, but sometimes I see where I would like to say something. If it is bad and there is a name. what is it? Town,WP (talk) 03:58, 20 March 2011 (UTC)Reply

Comment on content, but not on people.
Please see Wikipedia:No personal attacks and Wikipedia:Talk page guidelines.
For "TROLL" see WP:TROLL, for "DRAMA", see WP:DRAMA. And for any other such acronyms, just put "WP:" followed by the letters into the Wikipedia search box. For example, if I say "WTF", try putting "WP:WTF" into the search box, to find the page WP:WTF.  Chzz  ►  04:27, 20 March 2011 (UTC)Reply
Alright, that's pretty good. Thanks for helping me. Town,WP (talk) 15:25, 20 March 2011 (UTC)Reply

Comment on Pending Changes proposal

edit

I would appreciate it if you would clarify your comment at Wikipedia:Pending changes/Request for Comment February 2011. We're trying to arrive at a consensus, which is how Wikipedia normally works. It's not a poll, so just putting your name in the oppose section without a clear rationale is a bit of a problem. You indicated that "if there was a good reason [to stop the trial], it would be easily seen". However, this is in conflict with your statement that you "haven't read enough about this". There are at least a dozen reasons articulated on the page for why the trial should be stopped. Have you not read the page, or was your comment about reading referring to something else? It's fine if you have read the reasons and reject them; it's just not clear if this is the case. Thank you. —UncleDouggie (talk) 08:28, 27 March 2011 (UTC)Reply

Town, you said, in your oppose, you couldn't see a clear reason - and I'm not surprised; sadly, the whole debate has got really complicated. So - let me try and give a simple, clear reason;
  • June 2010, the community agreed to a 2-month trial. PC was applied to around 900 articles. At the end of the trial, PC should have been removed unless there was clear approval [1] - it was not removed.
  • There's been lots of argument about it, ever since. In September, a "straw poll" got 60% support for letting it run a little bit longer, with a hard-stop date of 31 December 2010 (waiting for a new version of the software). (Poll)
  • There were some updates, but not the promised 'new version'.
  • Current situation: PC is on 950 articles. Nobody really knows if it can, or cannot be used. Nor can we get any agreement on that.

It's all a mess.

Personally, I think the only possible way we're ever going to sort out the mess is, to remove the current use. And then, possibly, we might be able to start proposing ideas - on how it could be used.

I honestly think that, if we don't remove it, we'll just continue arguing about this, forever.

But...the RfC is a discussion - so if you have any ideas at all, how we might resolve the deadlock, please say so - on WP:PCRFC.

Cheers,  Chzz  ►  11:47, 27 March 2011 (UTC)Reply

You guys should cut me a break. I asked around because I wanted to say I like PC. I don't know how saying so brings this kind of junk to my page. I feel like you're both pissed at me and all I did was say my vote. I'm not looking for enemies and if people can get mad so easy. Let's just say I get the message. Town,WP (talk) 02:01, 29 March 2011 (UTC)Reply

I am not your enemy, and I am not angry. I'm not pissed at you. I'm grateful that you took part in the discussion.
I'm sorry that you consider our messages "junk". Feel free to just remove them - it's your user talk page.
The proposal is not "do you like PC". I like PC. I think it has great potential. I'd like to see agreement on how we can use it.
In order to achieve that, I think the "2-month trial", which has been running for nine months, needs to be ended. And then, I hope, we can move forwards. That's the whole purpose of this proposal.
Thanks for your time.  Chzz  ►  18:15, 29 March 2011 (UTC)Reply
Yeah, I'm sorry for that. It was rude. The other guy kind of set me off with "I would appreciate it if you would clarify your comment". It just hit me wrong, and then you seemed to gang up. But I understand I think. I just happen to like PC better than semi. If I could pick, it would be PC in Semi out. Town,WP (talk) 05:37, 30 March 2011 (UTC)Reply
I'm sorry that my request came off wrong. I'm also not at all angry with you. I see that you're a relatively new editor and I was trying to help you out a bit so that your opinion could be properly counted. As it turns out, your opinion has more to do with the final use of pending changes, which is still under consideration. The current proposal only covers ending the temporary trial and isn't related to how we finally use pending changes. I look forward to your input on the upcoming discussions. —UncleDouggie (talk) 06:40, 30 March 2011 (UTC)Reply
Thank you for that. It was my overreaction. I only intended to support PC and nothing else. I would rather be told how it is going to work, than asked what I think. My voice can only be assumed to be one of support. Town,WP (talk) 21:26, 30 March 2011 (UTC)Reply
