speedies
editPlease check recent discussion at AfD-- Full professors at major universities are almost always found notable there--they invariably have published much work recognized as notable by their peers. You may disagree, but such has been the consensus--I can not recall one deletion in the last 8 months. In any case, according to WP:CSD, speedy is for articles with no claim to notability, and any bona-fide claim is sufficient--saying one is a professor anywhere is such a claim--so is saying someone has written a book, etc. The reason is that more than 1 or 2 people should see these cases just in case somebody with only one book actually is notable, etc. If you think the claims to notability insufficient, and the article has been abandoned, then WP:Prod is the way to go. If you think it will be defended, then WP:AFD, DGG (talk) 18:25, 28 July 2007 (UTC)
- as a further guide, associate professors are sometimes notable--it depends on the amount of published works, and a convenient way to check is to use Google Scholar, keeping in mind that coverage is relatively weak for India. I want to encourage you to continue nominating academic, poets, and so on whom you think not notable for deletion by prod and afd. But speedy is a narrow category. By the way, it can be used only for those sorts of things specified in WP:CSD--people, web content, bands, companies. Not languages. DGG (talk) 18:46, 28 July 2007 (UTC)
This is an automated message from CorenSearchBot. I have performed a web search with the contents of Kamala Devi, and it appears to be very similar to another wikipedia page: Kamala devi. It is possible that you have accidentally duplicated contents, or made an error while creating the page— you might want to look at the pages and see if that is the case.
This message was placed automatically, and it is possible that the bot is confused and found similarity where none actually exists. If that is the case, you can remove the tag from the article and it would be appreciated if you could drop a note on the maintainer's talk page. CorenSearchBot 18:24, 9 September 2007 (UTC)
September 2007
editThank you for your contributions to Wikipedia. It appears that recently you carried out a copy and paste page move from Kamala Devi. Please do not move articles by copying and pasting them because it splits the article's history, which is needed for attribution and is helpful in many other ways. If there is an article that you cannot move yourself using the move link at the top of the page, follow the instructions at Wikipedia:Requested moves. Also, if there are any other articles that you copied and pasted, even if it was a long time ago, please list them at Wikipedia:Cut and paste move repair holding pen. Thank you. Hut 8.5 18:27, 9 September 2007 (UTC)
- Please don't remove the tag I put there. It needs to remain in place until the issue is sorted by an administrator. Hut 8.5 18:30, 9 September 2007 (UTC)
- When you move a page, you are supposed to click on "move" at the top of the page (next to "history"). This will preserve the page's edit history, which is required to comply with Wikipedia's license. The cut-and-paste move you did did not preserve the edit history and needs to be rectified. Someone needs to delete the page Kamala Devi and then move Kamala devi to the new title Kamala Devi, which will turn Kamala devi into a redirect. I can't do this myself because you need to be an administrator, so I put a tag on the page requesting that an administrator do it. Hut 8.5 18:43, 9 September 2007 (UTC)
Poets on the IWE page
editGood idea. --Relata refero (disp.) 20:42, 11 April 2008 (UTC)
G'day. I note that you have reverted my deletion of a swag of redlinks from the above article. It is not normal to leave redlinks as 'place holders' in case someone eventually writes an article. If these poets are notable then articles will be written about them and then they can be listed. Leaving large quantities of redlinks leads to significant vandalism where people just add their names to the list. Notability is impossible to discover from such lists. I will leave your revert for a few weeks and if articles are not written about the language group of poets you 'saved' I'll delete them. Gillyweed (talk) 23:07, 28 April 2008 (UTC)
Spam in Song of a Bard and Other Poems
editHello, this is a message from an automated bot. A tag has been placed on Song of a Bard and Other Poems, by another Wikipedia user, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. The tag claims that it should be speedily deleted because Song of a Bard and Other Poems is blatant advertising for a company, product, group, service or person that would require a substantial rewrite in order to become an encyclopedia article.
To contest the tagging and request that administrators wait before possibly deleting Song of a Bard and Other Poems, please affix the template {{hangon}} to the page, and put a note on its talk page. If the article has already been deleted, see the advice and instructions at WP:WMD. Feel free to contact the bot operator if you have any questions about this or any problems with this bot, bearing in mind that this bot is only informing you of the nomination for speedy deletion; it does not perform any nominations or deletions itself. Orphaned non-free media (Image:SongOfABardAndOtherPoems.jpg)
editThanks for uploading Image:SongOfABardAndOtherPoems.jpg. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).
If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BJBot (talk) 05:08, 24 August 2008 (UTC)
This is an automated message from CorenSearchBot. I have performed a search with the contents of Loksatta (newspaper), and it appears to be very similar to another Wikipedia page: Loksatta. It is possible that you have accidentally duplicated contents, or made an error while creating the page— you might want to look at the pages and see if that is the case. If you are intentionally trying to rename an article, please see Help:Moving a page for instructions on how to do this without copying and pasting. If you are trying to move or copy content from one article to a different one, please see Wikipedia:Copying within Wikipedia and be sure you have acknowledged the duplication of material in an edit summary to preserve attribution history.
This message was placed automatically, and it is possible that the bot found similarity where none actually exists. Dilip Sankarreddy
editThanks for adding the name of Dilip Sankarreddy to the list of Indian poets in English language. But as a policy, there shall be names of only those poets who have an article about them on Wikipedia. We do not prefer red links in that list. It would be a great pleasure if you can Be Bold and create an article about the same poet. You've already got the tribune reference. So for what are you waiting my friend, Be Bold and create Dilip Sankarreddy. Shivashree (talk) 03:46, 3 April 2010 (UTC)
- I had never told you to remove the redlink. I just suggested to Be Bold and create an article if you have any interest in his poetry and life. You have already gotten a reliable reference, so what is the problem? Be Bold. Shivashree (talk) 03:41, 5 April 2010 (UTC)

License tagging for File:Dr. Jayaprakash Narayan.jpg
editThanks for uploading File:Dr. Jayaprakash Narayan.jpg. You don't seem to have indicated the license status of the image. Wikipedia uses a set of image copyright tags to indicate this information; to add a tag to the image, select the appropriate tag from this list, click on this link, then click "Edit this page" and add the tag to the image's description. If there doesn't seem to be a suitable tag, the image is probably not appropriate for use on Wikipedia.
For help in choosing the correct tag, or for any other questions, leave a message on Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. Thank you for your cooperation. --ImageTaggingBot (talk) 20:07, 22 August 2010 (UTC)

editWith regards to your edit here, this template plainly cautions that it is only to be removed by an administrator or an OTRS agent. File permission problem with File:D.V.V.S. Varma.jpg
editThanks for uploading File:D.V.V.S. Varma.jpg. I noticed that while you provided a valid copyright licensing tag, there is no proof that the creator of the file agreed to license it under the given license.
If you created this media entirely yourself but have previously published it elsewhere (especially online), please either
- make a note permitting reuse under the CC-BY-SA or another acceptable free license (see this list) at the site of the original publication; or
- Send an email from an address associated with the original publication to permissions-en wikimedia.org, stating your ownership of the material and your intention to publish it under a free license. You can find a sample permission letter here. If you take this step, add {{OTRS pending}} to the file description page to prevent premature deletion.
If you did not create it entirely yourself, please ask the person who created the file to take one of the two steps listed above, or if the owner of the file has already given their permission to you via email, please forward that email to permissions-en wikimedia.org.
If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:File copyright tags#Fair use, and add a rationale justifying the file's use on the article or articles where it is included. See Wikipedia:File copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.
If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have provided evidence that their copyright owners have agreed to license their works under the tags you supplied, too. You can find a list of files you have created in your upload log. Files lacking evidence of permission may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Speedy deletion nomination of File:Dr. Jayaprakash Narayan.jpg
editA tag has been placed on File:Dr. Jayaprakash Narayan.jpg requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section F9 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the image appears to be a blatant copyright infringement. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted images or text borrowed from other web sites or printed material, and as a consequence, your addition will most likely be deleted.
If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hang on}}
to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion, or "db", tag; if no such tag exists, then the page is no longer a speedy delete candidate and adding a hang-on tag is unnecessary), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Copyright problems with File:Dandi March 2.png
editHello. Concerning your contribution, File:Dandi March 2.png, please note that Wikipedia cannot accept copyrighted text or images obtained from other web sites or printed material, without the permission of the author(s). This article or image appears to be a direct copy from https://picasaweb.google.com/peopleforloksatta/Media#5579545271598607282. As a copyright violation, File:Dandi March 2.png appears to qualify for deletion under the speedy deletion criteria. File:Dandi March 2.png has been tagged for deletion, and may have been deleted by the time you see this message.
If you believe that the article or image is not a copyright violation, or if you have permission from the copyright holder to release the content freely under the Creative Commons Attribution/Share-Alike License (CC-BY-SA) then you should do one of the following:
- If you have permission from the author, leave a message explaining the details at File talk:Dandi March 2.png and send an email with the message to permissions-en wikimedia.org. See Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission for instructions.
- If a note on the original website states that it is licensed under the CC-BY-SA license, leave a note at File talk:Dandi March 2.png with a link to where we can find that note.
- If you hold the copyright to the material: send an e-mail from an address associated with the original publication to permissions-en wikimedia.org or a postal message to the Wikimedia Foundation permitting re-use under the CC-BY-SA and GFDL, and note that you have done so on File talk:Dandi March 2.png.
However, for textual content, you may simply consider rewriting the content in your own words. While contributions are appreciated, Wikipedia must require all contributors to understand and comply with its copyright policy. Wikipedia takes copyright concerns very seriously, and persistent violators will be blocked from editing. Thank you. De728631 (talk) 22:35, 8 March 2011 (UTC)
Speedy deletion nomination of Prasanna Meda
editIf this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.
You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.
A tag has been placed on Prasanna Meda requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a person or group of people, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable.
If you think that this notice was placed here in error, contest the deletion by clicking on the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion". Doing so will take you to the talk page where you will find a pre-formatted place for you to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. You can also visit the the page's talk page directly to give your reasons, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion, it may be deleted without delay. Speedy deletion nomination of Dilip Sankarreddy
editIf this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.
You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.
A tag has been placed on Dilip Sankarreddy, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. Disputed non-free use rationale for File:Lok Satta Movement.jpg
editThank you for uploading File:Lok Satta Movement.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale provided for using this file on Wikipedia may not meet the criteria required by Wikipedia:Non-free content. This can be corrected by going to the file description page and adding or clarifying the reason why the file qualifies under this policy. Adding and completing one of the templates available from Wikipedia:Non-free use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your file is in compliance with Wikipedia policy. Please be aware that a non-free use rationale is not the same as an image copyright tag; descriptions for files used under the non-free content policy require both a copyright tag and a non-free use rationale.
If it is determined that the file does not qualify under the non-free content policy, it might be deleted by an administrator seven days after the file was tagged in accordance with section F7 of the criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions, please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you. -- Marchjuly (talk) 04:55, 9 May 2017 (UTC)
Managing a conflict of interest
editHello, Townblight. We welcome your contributions, but if you have an external relationship with the people, places or things you have written about in the page Robo-advisor, you may have a conflict of interest (COI). editFinal warning
editThere's a long history of this account promoting a specific firm and related people. Please consider this a final warning; any more references to that group, directly or indirectly, and this account will be blocked. Sam Kuru (talk) 01:26, 28 January 2023 (UTC)
- Why do you remove content that is encyclopaedic in nature, hurting the quality of the pages? When the pursuit of all involved has been to improve the pages.
- Also, it is not tasteful on your part to give a "final warning". Townblight (talk) 02:03, 28 January 2023 (UTC)
- If any citations are questionable, you can consider to edit/remove them. But removing non-promotional and valid content in a page that is encylopaedic hurts that page. Townblight (talk) 02:22, 28 January 2023 (UTC)
