The Humungous Image Tagging Project
editHi. You've helped with the Wikipedia:WikiProject Wiki Syntax, so I thought it worth alerting you to the latest and greatest of Wikipedia fixing project, User:Yann/Untagged Images, which is seeking to put copyright tags on all of the untagged images. There are probably, oh, thirty thousand or so to do (he said, reaching into the air for a large figure). But hey: they're images ... you'll get to see lots of random pretty pictures. That must be better than looking for at at and the the, non? You know you'll love it. best wishes --Tagishsimon (talk)
Visual Basic Classic wikibook
editI see you have contributed to the Visual Basic article on Wikipedia. Any chance you would like to join in editing the wikibook: http://en.wikibooks.org/wiki/Programming:Visual_Basic_Classic? --Kjwhitefoot 08:19, 30 September 2005 (UTC)
I didnt do those edits
edit70.107.127.74 did. Please check history before claiming a flase accusation against another user. Lil Flip246 22:21, 4 June 2006 (UTC)
- I'm sorry about the confusion with my edit summery to the revert on the Naomi Campbell article. What I put was "Reverted edits by 70.107.127.74 to last version by Lil Flip246". This means that I reverted the edits by 70.107.127.74, which is correct. However, I think you may have been confused by the bit saying "to last version by Lil Flip246". This doesn't mean that you made the edits. What it means is that the version I reverted back to was last edited by you. I admit it can be a bit confusing if you're not used to seeing it but it's a standard summary that you'll find quite often around Wikipedia. Don't worry, I'm not in any way accusing you of making those edits. Again, I apologize for any confusion. Tra (Talk) 18:44, 5 June 2006 (UTC)
Wallingford-Swarthmore School District
editSome classmates and I are working on a project for our graduate school class. Our assignment is to put information about Wallingford-Swarthmore School District on Wikipedia. We felt the most accurate way to portray the school district is to use information from the school district's webpage. As soon as the page is back up we will properly site the school's webpage. I kindly ask that you renig your copyright tag. Thank you. Justmanno 23:26, 4 June 2006 (UTC)justmanno
- Hi, Justmanno, and welcome to Wikipedia. Thank-you for your edits to the Wallingford-Swarthmore School District article although I am sorry to say that what you put is not actually allowed on Wikipedia. It was copied off several of the district web pages. I know you are citing your source, but the fact is that you have copied several paragraphs of copyrighted text without permission, which I'm afraid is illegal and not permitted on Wikipedia. If you do want to use that material, you need to contact the author of the text and ask them to release it under the GFDL. This page might help you to do that. Unfortunately, unless they agree to do that, it can't be used in Wikipedia.
- Another problem I think I might need to mention is that your article is not written to a neutral point of view. I accept that it is accurate but it includes quite a lot of opinion. For example, it says "Our deepest convictions and values:" and then goes on to explain these. These are the opinions of the the district. Instead, you might want to mention only a few of their opinions and then go on to explain some other people's opinions of the schools. Better still, you could include a lot more facts. A history of the district and the individual schools is often a good choice. The Strath Haven High School paragraph is probably the best example of this. It includes a brief history of the school whilst mentioning a few important events.
- Another minor point: Don't write anything in the first person, so instead of saying 'Our', say 'the district'.
- Anyway, to summarize, don't copy mission statements off the internet. It is far better for you to just write the article yourself with a few basic facts. Sorry for making you read through all this but I hope you can understand a bit more about what is suitable and what is good, but not suitable for Wikipedia. Tra (Talk) 19:47, 5 June 2006 (UTC)
word choice
editFYI commerical->commercial is a typo and not a spelling error. —Preceding unsigned comment added by belg4mit (talk • contribs)
- I think the initial mistake was a typo, which meant that the spelling appeared wrong in the article, so I corrected it. Tra (Talk) 18:33, 24 July 2006 (UTC)

Big Brother (UK series 7)
editHey there. I'm leaving you this message as you were a part of making the article Big Brother (UK series 7) and I've had the crazy idea of trying to get it to featured status, or at least a good article. I've made a peer review page, and comments there for improving would be greatly appreciated. Also, if you see I have left anyone out could you message them as well? Thanks. --Alex (Talk) 11:35, 1 October 2006 (UTC)
Village Pump archiving
editTra, thanks for implementing the human solution for clearing Wikipedia:Village pump/Archival dump. I'll assist as well, with hopes that we don't get yelled at by the anti-vandalism bots. Cheers!--Kchase T 17:08, 7 October 2006 (UTC)

Adding YouTube Video (with Player) to a Wiki Page
editHi Tra. Thanks for your note (on the Village Pump) about adding a YouTube video extension to a Mediawiki wikipage. Very helpful. I wondered if I could ask another favor. First, some background.
I edit a project called MemoryArchive that runs on MediaWiki. That's actually where I want to put the YouTube videos, on the wiki pages of that project. MemoryArchive's host and tech expert is Erik Moeller, the same Erik Moeller who is currently serving on Wikimedia Foundation Board with Jimbo. He's very busy, as you might imagine, and doesn't really have time to help me out with things like this (video extensions, etc.). So I was hoping that you (or someone you might recommend) could help me with this. I should add that this isn't the only thing that needs to be done (programming wise) on the site. We really need someone with php experience to help Erik (and us). Thanks again. MarshallPoe 14:18, 23 October 2006 (UTC)
- Sorry, I don't really know enough about php to help you install the extension. As for someone who might be able to help you, the MediaWiki support desk is one place I found but that hasn't recieved many replies in the last couple of days. I hope this has helped. editOK. Can you please try it again. I believe it works now, at the expense of making it look a little worse in Safari. Thanks for letting me know about this. -- Rick Block (talk) 02:33, 26 October 2006 (UTC)
User Watchlist
editAfter your recent post in the forums I installed your wacthlist tool. This promises to be useful; thanks for sharing :) --Doc Tropics Message in a bottle 00:42, 29 October 2006 (UTC)
- Hi Tra. The user watchlist does not seem to work for me. I'm also using the "Admin-like RC Patrol tools". Could these two scripts be in conflict somehow? Thanks, Katr67 16:47, 3 November 2006 (UTC)
- How much of it does work? For example, can you see the sidebar link, can you get to User:Tra/User watchlist? If you can get to that page, what exactly do you see? Also, what browser are you using? Tra (Talk) 17:35, 3 November 2006 (UTC)
- Thanks for your quick response! Yes, the link is in the sidebar and I can get to User:Tra/User watchlist. When I get there, I see "Loading..." and then that goes away and there is nothing. I have been using Firefox. Katr67 17:38, 3 November 2006 (UTC)
- Try going to Special:Watchlist/edit and see manually if any of the users there have edited since midnight in your local timezone. If no-one on there has edited since midnight, it should explain why the list is empty. If that doesn't solve the problem, check that the clock and timezone is set correctly both on your computer and in your Wikipedia preferences. Tra (Talk) 17:50, 3 November 2006 (UTC)

do NOT tamper with my personal space without negotiation on the talk page
editThe photo goes back, and you can damn well go through the process of raising the matter. Tony 14:56, 30 October 2006 (UTC)
- Sorry, but fair use images are not allowed in userspace (see WP:FU#Policy). I did not discuss it on the talk page first because I assumed that the policy was quite clear regarding this. If you do need to have a picture of Nelson Mandela, however, you may wish to consider using one of these free images, which are perfectly acceptable for use in userspace: Image:Mandela minus Clinton.jpg, Image:ClintonMandela.jpg or Image:Madiba Tromso.JPG. Tra (Talk) 16:50, 30 October 2006 (UTC)
- Your recent message on my talk page is the right way to do it. I'll search for a replacement; when I've decided on one, I'll remove the existing pic. Please distinguish between personal and WP space in your dealings. Tony 00:18, 31 October 2006 (UTC)
- OK, thanks for telling me. I am aware that user pages generally are not edited substantially by other users but removal of fair use images is an exception to this because of the copyright issues. If I wanted to suggest a change for something else, I would have discussed it first. Tra (Talk) 00:34, 31 October 2006 (UTC)
- No, the pic has been there for many months. Don't assume. Tony 00:34, 31 October 2006 (UTC)
- The policy says nothing about how long an image was left there. Generally, I think the main problem is that these images can be put on a user page and forgotten about easily. They still need to be removed. I'd say the best thing to do now is to find a suitable image to replace it with. The ones I listed above will give you some ideas; you might also find a better one. Pic purge please
editPlease purge the 200px etc. for Image:Sparc1+.jpg for me. The other pic worked great but this didn't, I think because I had incorrectly given the name as Image:Sparc1%2B.jpg. Thanks for your help.Fourdee 07:03, 31 October 2006 (UTC)
- I've purged the image. This may not work all the time, sometimes there's just a problem with the image server or the image needs to be purged multiple times for some reason. In future, you can purge images yourself by following the instructions at WP:PURGE for the image description page, which causes all thumbnails to be regenerated.
