Sanssouci

Do you need help on the translation? What a lot of people do with a translation this large is put the German version on a subpage of their user page and then users can check it together. Interested? Tfine80 16:39, 20 December 2005 (UTC)Reply

Yes. I've just sorted out my talk page and have linked to the article in both languages. Should I put the whole text in a subpage? Trebor27trebor 17:25, 20 December 2005 (UTC)Reply

That's a possibility. Just eliminates people doing duplicative work and allows you to catch mistakes before you post it in an incomplete and perhaps mistaken form. You could also post a note to the talk page of Sanssouci. Tfine80 17:48, 21 December 2005 (UTC)Reply
Hi Trebor. I was wondering whether you were going to finally merge the article into the original (and then ask for a peer review) as suggested by some users. If you do not have time, or need help, don't hesitate to contact me. ACH 08:10, 3 February 2006 (UTC)Reply

Hi Trebor, the translation looks good. A few points on the questions you raised on your user page: Höhenzug can mean "range of hills" as well as "mountain range", and you're right, sey is the same as sei (though it's not a dialectal variant, simply and old-fashioned spelling). (An anon changed "Bornstedt hill" to "Bornstedt Downs", which is wrong according to the definition of Downland, so I'm changing it to "Bornstedt hills".) Angr/talk 19:22, 4 February 2006 (UTC)Reply

Hi Trebor, let me know if you want another proofread of the article. Though I haven't read it all the way yet, it looks like you did a wonderful job. --Mmounties 18:34, 20 February 2006 (UTC)Reply

Hi, I saw your name on some of the de:en translation talk pages. I was wondering if you could help get larger font size implemented in the swiss town info boxes by placing a post in favor on the above page. I'd really appreciate your help. Thanks. --Mmounties 18:33, 20 February 2006 (UTC)Reply

Thank you for the vote. Regarding the Sanssouci, I'll take it on this coming weekend. Promise. And I won't make edits that would make it inconsistent. If I see anything that would require a larger edit, I'll load it into my Sandbox and edit it there so you can see before it goes live. Regarding the red links, perhaps we'll want to try to complete some of the articles before we make it a FAC. I'll gladly help you with it and I think we may be able to find one or two others who might be willing to help. But let me take a look at this this next weekend. Don't have too much time to do it during the week. I'll be in touch this weekend. OK? --Mmounties 21:27, 20 February 2006 (UTC)Reply
Sure. Thanks a lot. I'm pretty busy in the week too, but I should be free sometime on Sunday.

Prep Sanssouci for FAC

edit

Trebor, I was thinking, if you could go through the article and list all the red links under the Requested Articles section on the German-speaking Wikipedians' notice board, we may be able to get a head start with help from those who frequent the Board. Then we would only need to deal with/actively enlist help for the ones that are left over. --Mmounties 22:49, 21 February 2006 (UTC)Reply

I talked it over with someone else. Best to put a bullet point list of the needed articles at the top of the article's talk page instead of under the requ. articles on the notice board. I've put a request on the WP:GSWN to alert others to the fact that we're on an improvement drive and to please look at the article's talk page for where they can help and indicate if someone claims an article. --Mmounties 23:54, 21 February 2006 (UTC)Reply
I got the list started for you. Would be great if you could complete it. --Mmounties 00:02, 22 February 2006 (UTC)Reply
Sure, when I have a sec.Trebor27trebor 21:24, 22 February 2006 (UTC)Reply
Hey, I reserved my first tonight. :) I saw you completed the list. That's great! Now I think we should talk things over if we can; especially about the red links without articles in German or French that we can translate. Do you use AOL Instant Messenger at all? That would be a good way to have a conversation to lead things off. If you do, please send me an instant message (my AIM name is also Mmounties). I've also left messages with two others whose help we could really use well (User:Inge-Lyubov is good with churches and I saw there are some, and User:Kusma might feel like a break every now and then from all the Anniversay pages s/he is creating for the Portal:Germany. :) Let me know if we can "talk" on AIM, okay? --Mmounties (Talk)     04:16, 24 February 2006 (UTC)Reply

Ferdinand von Arnim

edit

Hi Trebor. A hint for your question about Sello. Sello is the name of a family of famous gardeners in Potsdam/Sanssouci (in German "Hofgärtner" of the prussian kings). Most of them are burried in a special part of the Potsdam-Bornstedt cemetery, the so called Sello-part. If you are interested in some pictures of buildings by Ferdinand von Armim: see Architektonisches Skizzenbuch. --ONAR 22:01, 22 February 2006 (UTC)Reply

...to your question about sey on your user page: you're right, sey means sei and is an old spelling. --ONAR 22:11, 22 February 2006 (UTC)Reply

Hello

hey, I was wondering whether we could go over those articles without corresponding German pages today. You still alive? Or did that great response and tremendous help we're getting with the Sanssouci red links do you in?  :) --Mmounties (Talk)     22:39, 26 February 2006 (UTC)Reply

Sorry, I'm really busy tonight, but I should be available tomorrow. I'm not dead yet. ;) Trebor27trebor 19:46, 28 February 2006 (UTC)Reply

The clean-up for real brigade has take over the article and they're doing a very good job. Not sure whether you follow the talk page but there is a question on the sourcing of many of the quotes. Would be great if you can provide those please. --Mmounties (Talk)   20:23, 4 April 2006 (UTC)Reply

I'll try tomorrow (I'm tired right now), but I can't promise that I can find all of them. Trebor27trebor 20:26, 4 April 2006 (UTC)Reply

Just wanted to let you know, User:Giano's taken to help us. He's put references next to the ones that need references (saying "this needs reference" or something similar). I think, right now, there are only two that he thinks need one. I found support for a direct quote tonight, so I added that reference. --Mmounties (Talk)   04:10, 6 April 2006 (UTC)Reply

  • Hi, you've been very quiet over all the changes at Sanssouci. I hope you approve of them, and don't feel the page has been taken over and away from you. Originally I started to verify your translation with the German, but after a few paragraphs realised you were spot on, and didn't bother too look at the rest. I know what a boring laborious and thankless task translation can be, and I really congratulate you on it. Architectural pages never seem to encourage many votes on FAC, but The page has now attracted at least one "support" vote and hopefully will now attract enough to succeed. Regards Giano | talk 13:31, 9 April 2006 (UTC)Reply
The support there is looking good. You forgot to sign your name there by the way! Giano | talk 20:40, 14 April 2006 (UTC)Reply
It's OK, its just with exams coming up, I'm pretty busy (sigh). I'm stunned at how much wikipedians can do to a page if they put their minds to it, and I think that it was definitely a good idea to go for a less rigid translation than I did originally. In any case, half the reason I started the translation was to get more than the derisory 3 lines the article had on it, and in that sense I think I've succeeded. ;) (I have read some of the comments about the "comprehensiveness" of the article). The page reads much better now than it ever did with my translation, and for a first effort from me, I'm flattered that you say that it was fine. Furthermore, there have been a great number of articles created that pertain to Germany and the building and grounds, which I feel is an exceptionally good thing. After all, for all that the English wikipedia is the biggest, it still has shocking gaps in its coverage, and Germany is hardly on the moon. Having looked at the size of some of the German articles about towns with universities e.g. Marburg, I have to conclude that they still have something over us when it comes to coverage of Germany. The other thing that I'm pleased about is that I can now actually understand what's being said, which is better than if I tried to read the German (half of my translation credit should go to dict.leo.org!). Above all, thank you, firstly for reading this monstrous essay of mine here, and secondly for getting the article into a state where it could become featured article. I don't have the wherewithal to write about such complex things architecturally as are in the article, and I've certainly learnt a lot from writing it. Trebor27trebor 17:37, 10 April 2006 (UTC)Reply
