Hi Triley60! I hope you don't mind the edits I made on User:Triley60/sandbox. If you haven't done so already, you may want to read Wikipedia:Notability (people) and Wikipedia:Conflict of interest. Happy editing! GoingBatty (talk) 18:14, 15 September 2012 (UTC)Reply

THANKS so much, let me know how to post this live--TR
I suggest you add a few reliable, independent sources first. Are there any interviews or reviews online to support your article? GoingBatty (talk) 00:17, 16 September 2012 (UTC)Reply
Yes, here you go: "John Lennon's Primal Scream," New York Times, October 9, 2011, "Lennon," the Sunday Times, September 18, 2011, "Tell Me Why," review by Jon Pareles, New York Times, June 19, 1988, Publisher's Weekly review, July, 2011, Morning Joe Interview, October 14, 2011

Also, need to disambiguate my Tim Riley page from a newscaster in Oregon who shares my name...trTim Riley (talk) 01:20, 16 September 2012 (UTC)Reply

Added four of these links - the Sunday Times article requires a login. Found a few more at Oberlin & Emerson. I wonder whether Tim Riley (music critic) or Tim Riley (author) would be better. GoingBatty (talk) 02:20, 16 September 2012 (UTC)Reply

I prefer music critic thanksTim Riley (talk) 03:17, 16 September 2012 (UTC)Reply

Looks like your proposal is on its was through the Articles for Creation process. Do you have any sources where the content of the interview is about you instead of your books? Thanks! GoingBatty (talk) 13:05, 16 September 2012 (UTC)Reply

Yes Christian Science Monitor, Emerson College interview about teaching Tim Riley (talk) 14:12, 16 September 2012 (UTC)Reply

Your video talks about "trustworthy sources", and that's exactly what I'm looking for to support the proposed Wikipedia article. For example, there are no sources yet for the first sentence of the article, for "classical pianist", and many of the TV appearances. In addition, the Oberlin/Eastman/Emerson references could be considered "self published" (or at least self-submitted for publication). The CSM interview is all about your book and your feelings about Lennon, but doesn't support any of the facts in the Wikipedia article. The Emerson video talks all about your classes (which sound like they would be great), but doesn't support any of the facts in the Wikipedia article other than the fact that you teach there.
I'm hoping that the more independent sources that can be included, the more likely the Wikipedia article will get accepted. Got anything else? GoingBatty (talk) 14:51, 16 September 2012 (UTC)Reply

Yes "Concord Author Writes a John Lennon biography, Boston Globe, November 6, 2011, Oberlin Alumni magazine, Scott Woods mp3 interview on rockcritics.com, New Hampshire public radio interview by Virginia Prescott, Linked In profile, JFS Speakers Agency profile, Hyperion Books profile, Oberlin Alumni news Impressed with your fact-checking, sorry couldn't find any Eastman alumni references, most publicity on book not me, as preferred. Happy to put you in touch with Oberlin and Eastman registrar offices if you like. Tim Riley (talk) 17:48, 16 September 2012 (UTC)Reply

I like that Boston Globe article, so I added that. I think there's enough alumni references now. Will listen to the audio interviews later. Thanks! GoingBatty (talk) 18:28, 16 September 2012 (UTC)Reply

Tim Riley (music critic)

Tim Riley (music critic), which you submitted to Articles for creation, has been created.

You are more than welcome to continue making quality contributions to Wikipedia. Note that because you are a logged-in user, you can create articles yourself, and don't have to post a request. However, you are more than welcome to continue submitting work to Articles for Creation.

Thank you for helping improve Wikipedia!

Now to clean up all the links to Tim Riley, as some of them should not go to the radio personality. GoingBatty (talk) 21:08, 16 September 2012 (UTC)Reply

I moved the article about the radio personality to Tim Riley (radio personality) and changed Tim Riley to a disambiguation page. I then fixed every link to Tim Riley, and added some new ones to both the radio personality and music critic articles. Could you please check that every article that links to the music critic article is correct? Thanks! GoingBatty (talk) 23:44, 16 September 2012 (UTC)Reply

Couple final questions: should I submit a photo for this page? If so, let me know how. FInally, I changed my name from Mikesell to Riley in 1985, and many of my childhood friends know me best by this other name... Can we include a sentence somewhere saying "Riley was raised as Tim Mikesell in Boulder and Pueblo Colorado. He took his stepfather's name in 1985." Thanks for all your detailed help!Tim Riley (talk) 01:35, 17 September 2012 (UTC)Reply

You can upload a photo by going to Wikipedia:File Upload Wizard. Note that there are copyright issues involved, and this isn't my area of expertise. Do you have any independent reliable sources for living in Colorado (besides the Globe article) and the name change? GoingBatty (talk) 01:47, 17 September 2012 (UTC)Reply

HEY look what I found: excerpts from my Fairview High School yearbook, Boulder, CO, 1978 Voted: Most Musical, playing Sonja Carlson's flute in the photo. Please don't let this get around. Otherwise, I'm still working on corroborating evidence that I was raised in Colorado. Here's my stepfather's obituary, but the Times only mentions his fourth wife, not his third, my mother. HM. Wikipedia editing

edit

Hi Tim! It's been a long time since we worked on the Wikipedia article about you, and have learned a lot about Wikipedia since then. Since you have a conflict of interest, you should not be directly editing the Tim Riley article or adding your books to other articles. If you have suggestions on how to improve the article about you (or other articles where you have a COI), you can post on the article's talk page with the {{request edit}} template, so an uninvolved editor can help you. Thanks, and happy editing! GoingBatty (talk) 20:20, 7 September 2021 (UTC)Reply
