Ah yes, Joe Doyle, the man who sorted out the financial side of things. Could seem a bit grim, but he cared. I remember him speaking on how the real work was done by just a few, he ran on a bit but he was spot on. But everyone loves a committee place, so it stayed a 15-man executive for years more. He stepped back in the mid-70's for family reasons, and never came back much, although I heard he got back to cycling in his 50's. He used to fly light aircraft from the back field of Dublin Airport, if you can find a reference.

Here's a reference for the "not-resigned" episode, I recollected it in my scrapbook. It was an odd business but it was all very intense. Everyone in the CRE and ICF, and many in the NI CF, wanted unity, but the NCA were a hard-bitten bunch, and feelings ran high, as they say. And Joe Doyle was not known for his patience. I suspect myself that he did mean to resign over someone "taking an initiative" but was "talked down" by Lawless, Lackey and the wily McQuaid, as he was, like Thomas, a really useful pair of hands. Anyway, the Indo, Friday 20th October 1967, page 16, an article called "C.R.E. regret incorrect report" including a comment from John Lackey. The same article has the Harp Cycling Club making the move from NCA to CRE. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 89.101.27.33 (talk) 08:17, 26 March 2019 (UTC)Reply

I thank you, anonymous-user from Dublin, that's a useful reference.Twilson r (talk) 14:19, 27 March 2019 (UTC)Reply
