Nominating pages for speedy deletion
editIf you want to suggest that an article should be deleted, please place the appropriate db template on the article, not its talk page. Thank you, Kusma (討論) 20:20, 25 May 2006 (UTC)
Packistani A-bomb
editI have put this article up at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Packistani A-bomb. Your opinion on this matter would be appreciated. --DV8 2XL 01:41, 26 May 2006 (UTC)
WWAW
editHey there,
The WWAW article has been deleted as a hoax. Reyk YO! 20:05, 4 June 2006 (UTC)
Hi Tychocat: I observed the formation of the article in question. Please make sure you view The NSTP (Non - Spatial Thinking Process) Theory article as well. I don't think the author of these three articles noticed this merger proposal as well. This seems to be clearly part of the same family of possibly pseudoscientific theories by this Kedar Joshi. Cheers V. Joe 08:13, 14 June 2006 (UTC)
Thanks for pointing this out. I dig the copyvio, that's something I can understand and get behind. Tychocat 22:18, 14 June 2006 (UTC)
Notability
editI'm just curious what guideline you use for notability. When it comes to businesses, most people use WP:CORP. Thanks, ---J.S (t|c) 21:15, 15 June 2006 (UTC)
Please state your point? Tychocat 21:27, 15 June 2006 (UTC)
- I'd like to know how you judge notability. Your recent opinion on an AFD made me curious as to what standards you apply. ---J.S (t|c) 15:27, 16 June 2006 (UTC)
- WP:CORP. I presume you're getting around to mentioning Silicon Optix? Of the three criteria you mention, point 1 (news stories) the links both go to press releases about products (not stories establishing a notable company, but press releases about product); item 2, the awards cited are both trade-industry glad-handing, not exactly NPOV. And, as you mentioned, no stock reports, which I didn't hold against SO since you said they're privately held. Tychocat 19:37, 16 June 2006 (UTC)
- I wasn't going to mention Silicone Optix. That discussion happens on that AFD, not here. I just wanted to know what standard you used since it seems to me they clearly pass WP:CORP (again, I don't want to have that debate here...). It just turn out you view the evidence diffrent then I do. ---J.S (t|c) 18:23, 18 June 2006 (UTC)
Notability - elections
editHey Tychocat. Thanks for the note on the UK by-election page. Obviously I do not know how much you understand about UK elections, but a by-election is a significant electoral activity in the UK. When a member of parliament dies or resigns, his/her seat must be re-fought, and as such the election is just as notable as any main, national democratic election in any country.
It's good to see an editor ready and willing to check new pages like yourself! It keeps the rest of us on our toes....doktorb | words 08:55, 18 June 2006 (UTC)
Glad to be of service. It's a problem of writing for an international audience, there's many things that you/I can take for granted, locally. I imagine that's an acute problem for us in the States, by the assumption the Solar System does revolve around the United States. Wait... you mean it doesn't? Tychocat 09:18, 18 June 2006 (UTC)
In regards to your recent vote at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/List of Lithuanian household gods, I encourage you to to read Wikipedia:Assume good faith. While I wish that every article on Wikipedia was better sourced, a lack of sources doesn't automatically mean something is made up and orignal research: a quick google turns up many hits on these gods. It's been my experience that implying bad faith on behalf of other users just doesn't lend itself to constructive discussion. — Laura Scudder ☎ 16:13, 18 June 2006 (UTC)
Sorry, yes, and humor doesn't translate either. Tychocat 17:33, 18 June 2006 (UTC)
Barre Mills, Wisconsin
editI am working on 2 articles concerning Barre Mills, Wisconsin. One of them is Samuel's Cave a prehistoric rockshelter and the other is the Free Thinkers Hall which is now thw townhall for the Town of Barre. Both are located in Barre Mills.Thank you for your message.RFD 18:17, 19 June 2006 (UTC)
Okay. Please keep in mind expanding the stub, since that appears to be your centerpiece for the other two articles, perhaps merging all three together? Tychocat 18:21, 19 June 2006 (UTC)
I did expand the article. However, the Barre Mills article was a redlink and it is connected to the WikiProject Wisconsin. I do know there is a category about unincorporated communities in Wisconsin that is a part of the WikiProject Wisconsin project. One god example would be the Wilmot, Wisconsin article.Thank you-RFD 11:59, 22 June 2006 (UTC)
University of Miami Custodial Workers' Strike
editGreetings. In reference to your delete vote, I posted the following comments on the VfD talk page. I'd be interested in any responses, either on my own talk page, or on the page for the VfD (which might be more constructive). Thanks, and here are the comments:
"If you mean the three external links at the bottom, you should note that one link was to UNICCO's website (the anti-strike one) and two links were to separately organized pro-labor websites (one by faculty, another by students). This disproves your claim that "all" links go to pro-strike sites. If you mean the links embedded throughout the article, you should then note that many links go to UM administration responses (and these were anti-strike from beginning to end). I would like to assume good faith, but it would be great if it felt like you had read the article more closely. Also, it's not clear what you mean by the "unverified" "nature" of most of the statements... which ones? On a positive note: why does this strike have to be "different from any other" in order to merit an article? What are your criteria for determining this difference? Last note: this was more than a local event. It drew national attention and the involvement of Jonathan Edwards, Charles Steele, and others. This strike marked the SEIU's first establishment of a union in a historically anti-union city, and this has implications for new immigrants to the U.S. And this is why there was so much national attention. But anyone who's read the article knows this." Universitytruth 15:00, 22 June 2006 (UTC)
Greetings again. Here is another comment I just posted on the AfD talk page.
- Dear Tychocat, please pardon my tone in my 22 June comment. I was exasperated with this second round of AfD, and it showed. Now, I wanted to ask you whether my explanation about the three external links was satisfactory to you. I would like to suggest that this article might use some improvements, but should not be deleted. See the discussion for why not. If you have remaining concerns, please post them here, and perhaps they can be addressed. Thanks much. Universitytruth 21:47, 26 June 2006 (UTC)
- Appreciate the notification. I think any discussion will be at the AfD talk page. Tychocat 08:40, 27 June 2006 (UTC)
Wanderlust Interactive
editHi, Tychocat. I deleted the Wanderlust Interactive article that you tagged for speedy deletion. You don't have to put a note on the talk page about the speedy tag and you certainly don't have to create a talk page to do so. It's just one more page we have to delete. Anyone browsing through articles will see the tag. Also, people watching recent changes or checking their watchlist will see that the tag was applied if you put it in the edit summary. :-) Kjkolb 09:09, 25 June 2006 (UTC)
'kay. I wanted to be careful, I'm still learning the procedures. Tychocat 10:52, 25 June 2006 (UTC)
Hi Tychochat. I believe you are incorrect about WP:NPOV. It's not a problem for me to contribute to articles that relate to the company I work at. It is a problem if the article is non-neutral as a result of that. If you believe this to be the case, please indicate the sections which you have concerns over and I will do my best to improve them. If you feel the article is missing something out, please let me know what this is, or feel free to add it yourself. GreenReaper 19:54, 30 June 2006 (UTC)
- Actually, no. It's an ad, you're trying to get me to give you permission to include an ad in an encyclopedia. I'm glad you feel empowered to be neutral about the ad you're writing for your employer. Good luck with that. Tychocat 20:03, 30 June 2006 (UTC)
- I'm an inclusionist. I think all topics should be covered in Wikipedia, where possible, so that you can just go to Wikipedia and type "topic x" and get the sum of human knowledge on the topic. I want your assistance in making it not an ad, so that it will be a better article. If you think it is an ad, I think you should do something constructive to improve it, rather than delete it, because I feel that deleting it will make Wikipedia less useful. I know deleting is easier, but that doesn't make it the best approach. GreenReaper 20:37, 30 June 2006 (UTC)
Doron Sabag
edit- please look at the data in Doron Sabag page and reconsider your decision. Haham hanuka is a known troll in Israeli wikipedia, because of fighting with anyone and vandal activity. You can ask David Shai, the head of Israeli Wikipedia who is Doron Sabag and who is haham Hanuka [1]. Thanks and good week end.
Misleading and insulting
editI contributed to Morgans Hotel Group after I found this ill-advised nomination. Your implication that I was prompted by pique because it was my work is utterly false and misleading and you owe me an apology. I would ask you to try to improve the accuracy and fairness of your contributions, or if you are unwilling to do so, to desist from making any. Cloachland 02:08, 5 July 2006 (UTC)
I made no statements regarding pique, and cannot see that I made either false or misleading remarks. Yourself and Cloachland have in fact contributed to the article. If this is incorrect, by all means please let me know. Tychocat 02:26, 5 July 2006 (UTC)
X-9 Ghost
editHi there. If the content from X-9 Ghost was merged into Macross Plus, then the former article can't be deleted (without violating GFDL) because its history has information about the authorship of the material now moved to the latter. The standard thing to do is to make the merged article redirect to the page it was merged into; I have taken care of it this time, but I wanted to make sure you knew this for the future. Happy editing, SCZenz 08:47, 6 July 2006 (UTC)
Arrgh. Sorry about that. This is always a little more complicated than I expect. I will pay more attention to the editing rules. Tychocat 09:07, 6 July 2006 (UTC)
- Don't worry about it. There's a lot to know here, and sometimes you learn it as I go along. -- SCZenz 09:10, 6 July 2006 (UTC)
List of United States musicians AfD 2
editFollowing my deletion of all sublists linked to List of United States musicians, a deletion review was of the opinion that all of them should be undeleted and relisted, because there were no AfD tags on the sublists during the first AfD. You may wish to comment in the new AfD: Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/List of United States musicians (2nd nomination). Kimchi.sg 12:31, 9 July 2006 (UTC)
German organized crime
editYou should not personally attack other users on Wikipedia, it is not appropriate. If you think that an article is a candidate for deletion, then simply say so and state your reasons and beliefs for this. It is arrogance such as this that will bring a lawsuit to this website. Remember that for next time.
I apologized. My points remain as stated. I think we can proceed on that basis? Tychocat 05:52, 11 July 2006 (UTC)
So far, this site has been relatively honest. If he says he is a schoolteacher in Oswego, then he is. Your use of the words stated qualifications is very demeaning to anyone who has accomplished anything in his or her life. If you want to proceed, then proceed. However, a simple apology on your own talk page really isn't sufficient. Your opinions remain your own, but they will now be looked upon with biases after you have most foolishly shot your mouth off. I mislisted an AfD you voted in
editI listed Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Fertility Retreat imperfectly. I should not have included the following nominations within it:
I have now, on advice, left Randine Lewis in the original nomination and broken the other two out. This message is to ensure that you see this and have the opportunity to comment upon the other nominations. I have sent it to you and th eothers who had already commented on the original bundled AfD only.
My apologies for the confusion.

No problemo. Tychocat 10:56, 11 July 2006 (UTC)
Hi, I completely rewrote this article, removing advertising and citing sources. Could you please review my changes and consider revisiting your vote? Thanks! --Aguerriero (talk) 17:38, 12 July 2006 (UTC)

editThanks for the comment in the discussion for Unauthorized Rolling Stones. It's always nice to get a pat on the back from fellow Wikipedians. - Zepheus (ツィフィアス) 19:24, 20 July 2006 (UTC)
No problemo. I'm so used to being distant from the questions here and handling everything by online sources, that it really struck me that you took the extra effort to do a walk-by tour of the site. Thanks, again! Tychocat 10:39, 28 July 2006 (UTC)
Thanks for participating in this AfD (I'm the nom.) You referred in your comment to other articles which were even worse.. can you show me some of them as I am doing quite a lot of work at the moment attempting to get Fancruft deleted. Thanks Zargulon 13:54, 22 July 2006 (UTC)
- Fortunately, most I've seen have also been deleted. I don't have any specifics, however, since i was mainly making the point that the fact worse articles exist doesn't justify having any other particular bad article existing. Sorry. Tychocat 14:23, 22 July 2006 (UTC)
- oh wait, here's one. Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Deadmines. The main arguments for keeping are that fans like it, or that WP isn't paper. Tychocat 14:27, 22 July 2006 (UTC)
- And another, IMHO. KROQ Top 106.7 Countdowns. Tychocat 14:35, 22 July 2006 (UTC)

AMA request
editHello Tychocat, I'm Steve Caruso from the Association of Members' Advocates. I'm sorry to hear about your problems with poll vandals. I'm writing to inform you that we have recieved your request, and that we are currently in the process of finding you a suitable Advocate. You should be hearing from us soon. In the meantime, be sure to read through the AMA pages here at Wikipedia to get more aquainted with the process of Advocacy and what to expect. If you have any questions, don't hesitate to leave me a message on my talk page. :-) אמר Steve Caruso (desk/AMA) 14:13, 26 July 2006 (UTC)
Thank you! I apologize if this is an inappropriate use for your services, but as I indicated in my request, I had never had to deal with something like this before and had no idea what to do besides run in circles and scream. If there's something more appropriate I should have done, don't hesitate to rap me on the knuckles. Tychocat 11:22, 27 July 2006 (UTC)
- Hello, K-UNIT here. Sorry for the belated acceptance, I was away from my PC for the past few days. Anyway, would you mind telling me about the situation that's going on now? I'd be happy to help in any way possible. K-UNIT 07:14, 29 July 2006 (UTC)
- Glad to meet you! Well, I'm not sure what's to be done at this point. I was part of an afd discussion for this article, which was being rather hotly contested. On July 25, 2006, the afd discussion for Pokemon:Brown was vandalized, all delete-nominations were removed from the page. It came by an anonymous IP, that only made the one edit. The article was eventually successfully deleted. I have to admit, I came to you folks mainly out of a sense that something needed to be done, but I have no idea what. I'm guessing the IP used to vandalize the page won't be used again, at least not by the same person, so I don't know that banning the IP would do any good. If there's something more appropriate that I could have done, let me know that, that's fine too. Tychocat 07:37, 29 July 2006 (UTC)
- Unfortunately, I am not an administrator, so it's not in my power to ban IPs. And as it seems as if the incident is over, I suppose that you're right that there's nothing more to be done. After doing some research I'd have to agree with the consensus that the article was meant to be deleted, so I don't see anything that I could have done had I replied sooner. However, if the article is repetedly being recreated please don't hesitate to let me know. Also, if you have any more problems or are involved in any disputes, I'd gladly help out and hopefully sooner. For future reference if you ever need to get in touch with me sooner, my email address is tkevin1@rochester.rr.com. Good luck! K-UNIT 07:51, 29 July 2006 (UTC)
- Understood, and I appreciate you responding to me. Um, hope I don't have to contact you in this context, eh? :-) Tychocat 07:58, 29 July 2006 (UTC)
Please see my comment there. - CrazyRussian talk/email 14:51, 2 August 2006 (UTC)
Thanks for your work here, but I don't see the changes you made particularly change my feelings regarding these articles. However, just to be sure - your above comment refers to comments in the article's afd discussion, right? I also checked the general afd talk page, and didn't see anything there. Let me know if I'm missiing the point (again). Tychocat 10:35, 3 August 2006 (UTC)
Oh, wait, I think I found it at Wikipedia talk:Articles for deletion/HHO Gas. I see by the page history you say you "refactored" the material, but I don't understand what you did. All I see here is a long rant from the ohio guy and I don't see anything from you. am I still missing it? Tychocat 10:48, 3 August 2006 (UTC)
Ethinc Stereotypes in American Media AFD 2

AfD comment
editYou said on the Avenue D nomination, "It's a pity the afd process must be used to get articles to meet WP policies and guidelines."
Now, if that was generated at the rapid improvement of the article, and my nomination to cause it to happen, I whole heartedly agree.
If that was directed at my nomination directly, I hadn't found the Chart position. I still reguard their touring at clubs and parties as non-notable, as well as their albums which was the purpose of my nomination. I have closed it myself at the digging up of the chart position. I just want to clear up that I had good faith in my nomination. Happy editing to you :) Teke 05:11, 11 August 2006 (UTC)
'Way too much analysis, y'know. I was speaking purely to the improvement of the article. But, not a problem, and I appreciate the explanation. Tychocat 08:11, 11 August 2006 (UTC)
Hi. I see you've weighed in on this AfD. I just noticed that TheronJ has substantially cleaned up the article, and I think St. Clements University is worth another look. Regards, William Pietri 06:34, 15 September 2006 (UTC)
