Ancient Rome History
editAncient Rome started off as a single city In Rome, Italy. The city developed itself as a major Roman Empire which lasted 507 years long, (It started on 27 BC. To start off this empire they had to settle on a part of somewhere on this world. The Romans settled in Rome,Italy near the Mediterranean Sea. The whole purpose of settling near the Mediterranean Sea was to travel when the Romans needed to trade with the other cities, towns, and empires. Another way they started progressing into an empire was to form an army. If a army had at most 5,000 soldiers it would be called a legion(s). After, the Romans created their Roman Empire they had their First Emperor who was named Imperator Caesar Divi Filius Augustus. He was most known for being a dictator for Rome. His achievements from being a Roman Emperor were when Augustus restored the peace within Rome by the "Pax Romana" symbol which means Roman Peace. Ancient Rome believed in man Gods just like Greece. When you believe in many Gods that is called Polytheism. Examples of what Gods they believed in are, Neptune God of the Sea, Venus Goddess of Love, and Athena Goddess of Wisdom and Battle Strategy. Ancient Romans invented aqueducts where they got fresh water. Usually when Romans built things they would use concrete as their building material. The Romans also invented Architecture, literature, and art. When a Roman wanted to cry or scream they would go theater and perform what they felt. The Romans also did executions and made slaves fight with an animal(s). The audience and king loved watching people fight to their death and when they didn't get eaten by the animal and slayed the animal themselves, the slave (person) would either get killed by the King or earn his/her freedom again. Later on when the Romans created a Christian Religion all citizens who weren't part of the religion believed that their King or Emperor was a God. But, the people who were part of the Religion believed in only one God which wasn't the emperor. This spread across the community/empire and the King's respect was weakened. Constantine the Great split the Empire into two parts. The western half was centered in Rome and the eastern half was centered in a city named after Constantine himself, "Constantinople." The people in the western empire would speak the Latin language and would be Roman catholic and the eastern empire would speak Greece and be Christian. Later on when The Eastern and Western empires were in war, money was tight for the Romans so, they hired the less reliable Germanic soldiers which betrayed them and fought the Romans. More and more Germanic soldiers kept piling in inside the territory of the Romans. Romulus the last of the Roman Emperors was overthrown in 476 C.E. by one of the barbarians Odoacer, who became the ruler after the Fall of Rome.[1] [2] [3] Typicalfrances (talk) 23:16, 28 March 2017 (UTC)Typicalfrances

Hi Typicalfrances! Thanks for your kind words on the Madagascar articles! Guess what - I'm back in Madagascar again and should be living here until 2020 unless political circumstances change (which is always more than possible, unfortunately...!). I think it's great that you're interested in contributing here and I'm more than happy to help in any way I can. I actually was a teacher in the past, which is why I started writing on here in the first place - I wanted to help to educate the world about a place that I find fascinating and that many people outside of French speaking countries don't know well. Since I started writing on Wikipedia, I have tried to get more people to write about what they know and love, including doing some small training sessions in Rwanda and Madagascar for local students. My job keeps me really busy so I don't write as often as I used to, but I'll try to make a point of coming on when I can. :) - Lemurbaby (talk) 01:44, 11 April 2017 (UTC)
