What exactly are we putting this bit in for?
- —gorgan_almighty 17:00, 8 December 2005 (UTC)
- every usage of a userbox should place the user in question in a appropriate category →AzaToth 17:01, 8 December 2005 (UTC)
- —gorgan_almighty 17:00, 8 December 2005 (UTC)
Strange, it doesn't seem to produce the same effect as the other userboxes do, eg:
Categories: User en | User en-N | User ot | User html | User html-4 | User js | User js-2 | Wikipedian programmers | User c | User c-4 | User asm | User asm-4 | User java | User java-3 | User bas | User bas-4 | User python | User python-4 | User sql | User sql-2 | User cmd | User cmd-4 | User batch | User batch-4 | Linux users | Windows users | Wikipedians not using IE | Firefox users | User guitar | User guitar-3 | User irc | User Religion/Born Again Christian
Notice that the full page name is displayed for the last link :-?
-
- It's because the old userboxes uses the categories "Category:User c-4" etc..., I created a more structured approach so each group belongs to a "super" group, "Religion" in this case. Basically because "User nn[n]-a" should be reserved for babel, also, for a third person, what stands "User bas" for? programming basic? playing bass? etc... →AzaToth 17:20, 8 December 2005 (UTC)
I can't seem to get the case=discordian to work. On my own user page, it says I'm religious. I would -love- for it to say more than that. Like...that I'm discordian. I fail to see how my userbox thing is different from anyone else's... Cernen 08:34, 13 December 2005 (UTC)
- The problem was that you had "user religion", where it needed to be "userbox religion". I also fixed the image because it seems that Sacred-Chao.png doesn't exist. But I'm not sure whether we need case=discordian, since we already have Template:User pope. - AdelaMae (talk - contribs) 16:33, 13 December 2005 (UTC)
- Thank you. I guess I got a tad too carried away. Cernen 04:27, 14 December 2005 (UTC)
Category overlap
editThese templates make for a lot of unnecessary category overlap with the subcategories of Wikipedians by religion. Can the categories here be changed to those?
- Category:Protestant Wikipedians
- Category:Roman Catholic Wikipedians
- Category:Born-again Christian Wikipedians
- Category:Atheist Wikipedians
- Category:Invisible Pink Unicorn Wikipedians
- Category:Flying Spaghetti Monsterist Wikipedians
- Category:Muslim Wikipedians
- Category:Jewish Wikipedians
- Category:Buddhist Wikipedians
- Category:Hindu Wikipedians
- Category:Unitarian Universalist Wikipedians
- Category:Discordian Wikipedians
- Category:Pagan Wikipedians
- Category:Quaker Wikipedians
Any comments? Objections?
-- jnothman talk 02:14, 21 December 2005 (UTC)
- I would be in favor of this. I purposefully designed the "Pagan" case to sort users into the already-existing Pagan Wikipedians category rather than creating a new User religion/Pagan category that means exactly the same thing but is in a different place. Some of the other cases also already follow your suggested usage. - AdelaMae (talk - contribs) 06:28, 21 December 2005 (UTC)
- In favor. Ian13ID:540053 18:00, 22 December 2005 (UTC)
- It's been mostly done already: I've changed the template, but we need to perform null edits on the category members (any suggested bots?), and then delete the old categories, maybe after sharing some of their template usage guides. These don't quite fall under CSD or CSRename do they? (They're close to CSD c3, but not quite.) jnothman talk 22:36, 22 December 2005 (UTC)
There's also overlap between Category:Anglican Wikipedians and Category:Anglican and Episcopalian Wikipedians. I prefer the latter as being more general, and I've made the former a subcategory of the latter, but still, there's overlap. --Angr (t·c) 12:34, 27 December 2005 (UTC)
List of options?
editThis page doesn't have a list of the permissible options. Also, how about adding an entry for us Mormons? :-) — Frecklefoot | Talk 21:34, 30 December 2005 (UTC)
- The list of possible options is at Wikipedia:Userboxes/Religion. You're welcome to create one for LDSs and add it to the template. --Angr (t·c) 22:14, 30 December 2005 (UTC)
- LDS option added. KirbyMeister 19:37, 31 December 2005 (UTC)
- About freakin' time. (Too bad I won't be using it.) Cernen 11:59, 7 January 2006 (UTC)
- LDS option added. KirbyMeister 19:37, 31 December 2005 (UTC)
I'm sorry, but this is just ridiculous
editWhy are all these user boxes combined into one massive user box using MediaWiki hacks that should not be used? What purpose does it serve? Why not just have separate templates? It would be less complicated. -- Cyrius|✎ 21:27, 6 January 2006 (UTC)
- If you read the project place, you see that they are to be splitted, you just have to wait, or help →AzaToth 21:35, 6 January 2006 (UTC)
how?...
edithow do I alter it? I'm not a techie! please, someone tell me how! Chef Clover

Religion split vs. Invisible Pink Unicorn
editcopied from my talk page: The religion split more or less inverted the meaning of the {{User religion|invisible pink unicorn}} userbox. Previously it said something like "This user doesn't really believe in the Invisible Pink Unicorn". Now it says "This user is religious". Not likely... I've removed the box from my page. HFuruseth 02:27, 24 January 2006 (UTC)
- The problem is that the person who took over doing the split after me didn't go around fixing the userpages of everyone who used the old {{User religion}} splits to refer to the new, split templates. Now that the template has been split, anyone whose userpage used to contain {{User religion|whatever}} is going to see the default {{User religion}} box. The template you want is {{User IPU2}}. If I ever have free time (I can only hope!) I might see what I can do to fix this problem for others. It even took me a while to notice it on my own userpage. - AdelaMae (talk - contribs) 04:06, 24 January 2006 (UTC)

New image
editDoes anyone else think this new image is incredibly ugly? —Aiden 15:06, 21 August 2006 (UTC)
- Yes, the main problem is Image:Praying hands2.jpg has copyright issues. you alway can add a different image to your own page. See the usage notes. Rfrisbietalk 15:25, 21 August 2006 (UTC)
