Cichlid species

edit

Rather than create one line articles giving nothing more than a Latin name and some obscure fact about it's diet, it would be so much better and the article much less likely to be deleted if you would start with something as simple as Amphilophus macracanthus commonly known as the Blackthroat cichlid is a species of cichlid discovered in 1864 and including a reference to this. As they stand the articles are meaningless. NtheP (talk) 18:15, 29 February 2012 (UTC)Reply

Speedy deletion nomination of Amphilophus macracanthus

edit

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Amphilophus macracanthus requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A1 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is a very short article providing little or no context to the reader. Please see Wikipedia:Stub for our minimum information standards for short articles. Also please note that articles must be on notable subjects and should provide references to reliable sources that verify their content.

If you think that the page was nominated in error, contest the nomination by clicking on the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion" in the speedy deletion tag. Doing so will take you to the talk page where you can explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. You can also visit the page's talk page directly to give your reasons, but be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but do not hesitate to add information that is consistent with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, you can contact one of these administrators to request that the administrator userfy the page or email a copy to you. Fiddle Faddle (talk) 18:25, 29 February 2012 (UTC)Reply

Where's it gone?

edit

It's now at User:UTcichlid89/Amphilophus alfari as I don't think it's ready to survive in the wild yet. It should be safe in your userspace until you get it filled out. If you have any problems, let me know. Peridon (talk) 19:40, 29 February 2012 (UTC)Reply

Cichlasoma octofasciatus is in the next tank, at User:UTcichlid89/Cichlasoma octofasciatus. The other two have been expanded by kind editors. Peridon (talk) 19:45, 29 February 2012 (UTC)Reply

Dietary content

edit

Several of your recently created articles state nothing more than

species x has a diet that cosnsists of y% evasive prey.

Setting aside the point that this fact is probably meaningless to 99% of the Wikipedia readers, you have cited this paper for this fact, but that paper does not seem to indicate the proportion of any given species' diet consisting of evasive prey. Can you point out where in the paper you are extracting that data? WikiDan61ChatMe!ReadMe!! 21:39, 29 February 2012 (UTC)Reply

Never mind -- found the data in "Figure 4" of the paper. Still not terribly meaningful, but at least properly cited. WikiDan61ChatMe!ReadMe!! 21:55, 29 February 2012 (UTC)Reply
