David R. Bryant
editHi, I have moved the article you created to David R. Bryant. DuncanHill (talk) 00:56, 23 May 2010 (UTC)
- I've moved it to what is called "article space" - this is the part of Wikipedia that all articles go in. There are other spaces for userpages, discussions, policies etc. For a first article I think it's very good - there are still some formatting issues to be sorted, but you've done very well. I and other editors will help to get it into even better shape. Have a read through some of the links in the Welcome Box I gave you, and feel free to ask for further help whenever you feel you need it. DuncanHill (talk) 01:07, 23 May 2010 (UTC)
- The only article that I can see that you created was the David R. Bryant article, which you created at User:Ualei. If you want to create a new article about someone who is already "redlinked" in an article, just click on the redlink and it will take you to the right place. It's ok to create articles in userspace and then move them, but it's best in that case to do it at a page like User:Ualei/Sandbox. If you look at the Perkin Medal page now, you'll see that David R. Bryant is now linked in blue - so other readers and editors can see it, and soon it will shew up on Google and other search engines.
- At the top of this page, or any page, are links called "my watchlist" and "my contributions" - the forst is a list of articles you have watched (usually this automatically includes any page you have edited or created), the second is a list of all edits you have made. They are very useful for keeping track of what's going on. I do hope this helps! DuncanHill (talk) 01:18, 23 May 2010 (UTC)
- Don't worry about cluttering up my talk page - I don't mind! You can also reply to me here, as I have the page on my watchlist, so I can easily see when you have commented. DuncanHill (talk) 01:20, 23 May 2010 (UTC)
Another useful thig is to look at the history of the article - there should be a "history" tab at the top of the article text. You can see the history for your article at this link. You'll see all the edits made to the article, together with the edit summaries given by editors. DuncanHill (talk) 01:36, 23 May 2010 (UTC)
- The paintbrush symbols were part of messaged that the article still needs work - one of them was about the references, which weren't formatted according to Wikipedia style. If you look [1] you will see the changes I made to incorporate them directly into the article. Formatting references properly is something most editors struggle with (I had been editing for a long time before I got the hang of them). As you will see, there are now superscript numbers in the text which link to the references at the bottom of the article. DuncanHill (talk) 11:20, 23 May 2010 (UTC)
Thank you very much. Ualei76.88.167.81 (talk) 07:20, 24 May 2010 (UTC)
