Deletion of The Great Binge
editHi -- You wrote on my talk page about the deletion of this article & then deleted it. If you're still interested, The Great Binge was deleted because the only source that could be found was an episode of the show QI, which is not considered a reliable source. Phil Bridger sums it up well: "This article is pure original research, and a Google Books search shows that many historical periods have been called "the great binge", most of them referring to economics (an excess of spending and speculation) rather than to consumption of alcohol and other drugs." I performed a quick websearch before deleting which confirmed that there appears no online evidence of the term being widely used in the sense of the article (overconsumption of drugs etc). Hope this helps! If you wish to contest deletion, let me know and I'll restore it and take it to Articles for deletion for community discussion. Teahouse talkback: you've got messages!

Hi, I saw your question at the Teahouse and added a few things to Judith Chomsky. There was a great profile in the Philadelphia Weekly, so if you want to improve it more maybe you could look at that and add some of that material. Also I noticed that a couple of sentences had been copied from the ASHA profile. It might be a good idea to rewrite those in your own words, to avoid copyright issues. And it seems we need a better cite for her birth date. One place to look might be if she is a member of any professional organizations. Sometimes they include the birth date in an announcement when the person joins. Anyway, thanks for creating this article, and good luck! -- Margin1522 (talk) 17:00, 28 July 2014 (UTC)
I forgot to mention why the notice about "primary sources" was there. You can click the "primary sources" in that notice to see the kind of sources that Wikipedia likes -- generally information written by third parties (scholars, reporters, etc.) in books, newspapers, and magazines. The problem here is the legal documents, like "Civil Action No...." Did you find about those documents in an article? Then you should cite the article, and explain who the people are and what those cases were about. If you want to keep the document numbers, where can another editor go to view those documents and verify that what you say about them is true? Hope that helps. -- Margin1522 (talk) 20:03, 28 July 2014 (UTC)
Thanks a million that is a real help! That article is perfect, I'll try to improve the entry with it. What exactly is the story with images? All the good articles have them, mine looks a little crap without one! I know they have to be in the public domain but Im not totally sure how to check if one is! I tried to upload one from the Chomsky foundation website but wikipedia required a proof of it being public domain and I didn't have that so I emailed the foundation requesting one but got no response yet. Is there a search for just public domain images I can do or something? Thanks again! Ultan42 (talk) 21:06, 28 July 2014 (UTC)
- Yes, there is. See this Harvard library site. I didn't know until reading that just now that Google and Bing both have a filter to find Creative Commons images. Right away I found an OK-to-use image of a building that I've wanted for a long time. Pretty neat. If that fails (in this case it seems likely to fail), maybe you could write the person directly and ask if she has any images from her career that she would like to share. If she has one she likes, and it's in her article, it will almost certainly appear first when people Google her name.

Haha.
editI just realized what you meant in:
...especially if that name is a Star Trek reference!
I've never known that there was a character in Star Trek named Q. No wonder people are calling my The Q. I did not watch many Star Trek videos when I was young.TheQ Editor (Talk) 00:51, 6 August 2014 (UTC)

Speedy deletion nomination of Ibrahim Halawa
editIf this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.
You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.
A tag has been placed on Ibrahim Halawa requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a person or group of people, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please read more about what is generally accepted as notable.
If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator.
