Prayer book context

The survivors of the massacre stated, that primary target of AK riflemen was men, who were found having Lithuanian language prayer-books{ref name="Galinis"} (Lithuanian) Tadas Galinis. Dubingių skerdynės (Dubingiai massacre) in "Armijos Krajovos ...", pp. 76-80. {/ref}

Eyewitness accounts are excellent for recounting events as they were seen, but notoriously unreliable for constructing a larger picture or intent. Here, for example, did the AK check men to see if they were carrying Lithuanian prayer books, and if so, kill them? Or did pretty much all Lithuanian men in this town carry Lithuanian prayer books? Does this imply the God-fearing and upright Lithuanians were murdered by godless Poles? And often, what was "heard" about something becomes "recounted" as happening and then through innocent rewording becomes an "eyewitness" account. Just comments.
