Bundesamt zur Korruptionsprävention und Korruptionsbekämpfung article

Hi, thanks for writing this.

I'm not sure fully translating the organisation's name is the best idea. The result is very long and probably anyone reading the article will be looking for the organisation by its German name. I think with a long name like Bundesamt zur Korruptionsprävention und Korruptionsbekämpfung there are a lot of translations possible so it's unlikely that people looking for the name by English translation will find the article. So I moved it to BAK (Austria) which I hope is a bit more likely to turn up on a google search. Let me know what you think. Blythwood (talk) 11:50, 27 April 2016 (UTC)

Hi,

in general these services are not very prevalent and if, only in very small municipalities. Only in a few states in Germany and Austria it is legal by the respective state constitutions and the municipality regulations to draft local citizens for work for the community infrastructure. I found references only in German and if I found it, it was only the legal regulation and in some reports in online newsplattforms.

Sure, with pleasure. The next days will be busy, so it will be better to send the questions, pls. If there are still questions, we probably can do a zoom on weekend. Regarding how many people do paritcipate, I just do an estimate without evidences at the moment. Due to the fact, that it effects only a few of very small communities with an average inhabitants less than 1,000, I would say the numbers of participants is small. I will try to get an overview about the towns executing this mandatory service in Germany, in Austria there are only 31 of 2,093 (reference from 2005) municipalities executing it. Due to prescriptions on some websites, some mayors organize it like some kind of village festival, so it does not feel like being forced to work... Vermehrt (talk) 18:48, 16 October 2024 (UTC)

If you are too busy to virtually meet, here are some questions:

- Do you have an idea of how many people decide to work and how many decide to pay extra taxes?

- Are these municipalities in Austria concentrated in a specific region?

- How is the eligibility defined? Age? Gender?

- And do people have to comply to the conscription up to a certain age? E.g. after turning 65 you don’t have to do it anymore.

I understand you might not know the answer to this, but any hint/hunch would be extremely helpful!

In this discussion one pro service argument was, that almost all obliged citizens do participate in this service, which usually takes place one or two days a year. Due to the fact, that it is executed in very small municipalities, I assume that there is some kind of social pressure to participate.

All municipalities are located in the state of Vorarlberg, there are following regions executing this mandatory service:

• most municipalities executing this service: Bregenz Forest
• some municipalities executing this service: Montafon
• only one municipality in Vorarlberg Rhine Valley which is more like a small metropolitan area and has a high population density with about 250.000 residents.

About eligibility: I hope to find a good explanation: the regulations differ from municipality to municipality, as I understood from this protocoll unually the "head of a houshold" has to participate, one other municipalities all male citizens. This "head of a household" was usually a male person (husband and if so, father of the children), nowadays of course it can be anyone living in the house/apartment.

Age of participation: it seems, that the draft ends in most municipalities at the age of 65, but in this protocoll was mentionned as well, that a 88 year old woman has been drafted for this mandatory work.
