Proposed deletion of Corvette Challenge Registry

edit

The article Corvette Challenge Registry has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Firstly, these are not VINs. Secondly, no establishment of notability of subject is given. Wikipedia is not a Directory

While all contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{dated prod}} will stop the Proposed Deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. The Speedy Deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and Articles for Deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. -- PhantomSteve (Contact Me, My Contribs) 12:38, 3 September 2009 (UTC)Reply

AfD Nomination: Corvette Challenge Registry

edit

Hello, and welcome to Wikipedia! We welcome and appreciate your contributions, but all Wikipedia articles must meet our criteria for inclusion (see What Wikipedia is not and Deletion policy). Since it does not seem that Corvette Challenge Registry meets these criteria, an editor has started a discussion about whether this article should be kept or deleted.

Your opinion on whether this article meets the inclusion criteria is welcome. Please contribute to the discussion by adding your comments at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Corvette Challenge Registry. Don't forget to add four tildes (~~~~) at the end of each of your comments to sign them.

Discussions such as these usually last seven days. In the meantime, you are free to edit the content of the article. Please do not remove the "articles for deletion" template (the box at the top). When the discussion has concluded, a neutral third party will consider all comments and decide whether or not to delete the article. MilborneOne (talk) 21:35, 10 September 2009 (UTC)Reply

Phantomsteve, Allow me to provide a link to a website that will give you a brief history of the race series if I may [1] These cars and this race series was rather important as some of these driver have went on to drive NASCAR.

Thanks for your reply. However, I don't think we would count the site as a reliable source - by its own admission on the homepage, it is a website created by a hobbyist for hobbyists. It is a personal website, and these are generally not counted as being reliable enough for Wikipedia's use. If individual drivers went on to NASCAR, then look up the driver's article, check through the references on that page for mentions of the Corvette Challenge, and then add a sentence on that article. As it stands, there are no reliable sources for the Corvette Challenge Registry (I looked, but couldn't find any), so it is not suitable for inclusion in Wikipedia. -- PhantomSteve (Contact Me, My Contribs) 18:19, 11 September 2009 (UTC)Reply

ok, here is a link to the race results from 1988 http://www.autocourse.ca/index.php?file=results.html and for 1989 http://www.autocourse.ca/index.php?file=results.html The reason I am trying to put this page up is to get this information out there, this info has been held by one person until now, he would not let anyone see it for fear of losing control over it. I have this information from the VIN numbers to engine numbers, roll bar numbers and much more informatiion that can't be put just on this one page. If allowed to stay, this page will provide much needed information to corvette community that can not be provided any where else.

The links you provided weren't quite correct. 1988 and 1989 are the correct links.
However, just having a list of results still does not show that it is notable. Autocourse.ca does not appear to meet the criteria for reliable sources.
I understand why you want it on wikipedia, but Wikipedia isn't a place for information that can't find somewhere else to go - it is an encyclopedia! I would suggest that perhaps you get your own website and host it there - or find a Corvette website that will let you add the information. There must be plenty of those out there! Some I found during a quick search include http://vettester.com/, http://www.corvetteactioncenter.com/, http://www.vettenut.com/, http://www.angelfire.com/vt2/vtmn59/, http://www.mindconnection.com/interests/corvette.htm and more - while http://www.corvettejunkie.com/ has links to lots of other corvette websites
Don't let the possible deletion of this article put you off editing - wikipedia needs enthusiastic and passionate editors! I would suggest that you start off with adding sourced information to existing articles. If you have any other questions, feel free to contact me for advice - if I don't know the answer, I can probably find someone who does! -- PhantomSteve (Contact Me, My Contribs) 20:04, 11 September 2009 (UTC)Reply
