Can I suggest that you do not replace company links to WoS with the WoS game template: that uses infoseek.cgi, rather than infoseekpub.cgi, which is what is wanted for publishers? Also, your opinions on using the internal WoS ids are suggested on the templates talk page would be much appreciated. Cheers --Pak21 15:36, 31 December 2006 (UTC)

Formatting issues

What formatting issues were caused by the ticks used to italicsize the game titles in the WoS game template? Thanks for the great job of re-linking the titles BTW! :-) --Frodet 21:15, 31 December 2006 (UTC)

Category:Computer and video games based on licensed properties

Please don't add any items to Category:Computer and video games based on licensed properties that are already sorted into their respective series subcategories. This makes sorting articles into the subcategories very difficult. Your help in undoing the edits to articles that are already sorted into a game series subcategory listed in the lic. prop. category would be appreciated. a question?

Does anyone know what it is like getting the northern line in the mornings between 8am-9am? The reason i ask this is because at the moment if i catch the northern line at kings cross to london bridge, i invariably have to wait for a tube to pass before i get on due to the number of people in front of me. Is there a similar case at the elephant and castle tube stop heading towards london bridge, weekdays between 8am and 9am? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.20.233.128 (talk) 13:48, 8 September 2007 (UTC)

Free entry fields

I'm not sure. I haven't heard much support for adding distances to Edinburgh & London. That said, I have no specific objection to them. Maybe statistic_title / statistic would be better fields. It would give more guidance as to what kind of things should be added. It could go just after population. Now I think about it, I like this idea. MRSCTalk 23:52, 15 March 2007 (UTC)

Grays

Are you sure the population is correct? I make it about 18,000 (though from adding 2 wards which do make up part of the town). Simply south 12:25, 20 March 2007 (UTC)

Okay. However, that only seems to make up one part of the town. For the current population i added on the Grays Riverside ward. I wonder if there is anywhere which actually defines the town. Simply south 19:31, 20 March 2007 (UTC)

Reverted navbox conversion on

Hi, I reverted your Navbox conversion as Navbox doesn't seem to handle the line breaks correctly. I wasn't able to figure out how to get it to break right, so I've gone back to the previous version until it can be fixed. dhett (talk contribs) 06:57, 7 October 2007 (UTC)

Musician navboxes

Hi there. I see you have recently created Template:Navbox music and are now converting articles for musical artists to use that template. Note that WP:MUSICIAN#Navboxes specifically recommends using Template:Navbox musical artist. --PEJL 11:22, 7 October 2007 (UTC)

I think the Template:Navbox music one is a bit better than the Template:Navbox musical artist version, as it's got the subheadings built-in to the template. The parameters are also similar to the standard Template:Navbox which I used as a basis for this new one. WOSlinker 13:30, 7 October 2007 (UTC)
If the existing recommended template isn't good enough, then the it should be improved, or the documentation should be changed to recommend this other template. Either way I suggest you propose changes at WT:MUSICIAN before converting any more navboxes. --PEJL 13:35, 7 October 2007 (UTC)
I've done that. -- WOSlinker 13:51, 7 October 2007 (UTC)

List of Japanese N64 games

I noticed your one of the people that wished there to be a list of Japanese games online for Wikipedia which I tried to make for the Nintendo 64 a few months ago, but just like when they where added to the orginal List of Nintendo 64 games they are trying to delete the new page List of Japanese Nintendo 64 games here's a link Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/List of Japanese Nintendo 64 games to the discussion, how about giving your view. Template:Jimmy Buffett

Is there any way to orient the top two sections of Template:Jimmy Buffett upward in the Navbox music template like they were before (like a "|above=" line would)? Your conversion to Navbox music has left a lot of unused column space in an already large template (the reason I didn't use it to begin with). Thanks. — AjaxSmack 03:17, 10 October 2007 (UTC)

When I created the Navbox music template, it had the groups across the top, so it looked very similar to what it did before I converted it. TigerK 69 has since been along and edited the Navbox music template so that the groups are now down the left. It may be best just to revert it back to before my edit if you would prefer it in the format it was in before.
There's also a discussion about it all at Wikipedia_talk:WikiProject_Musicians#Navboxes which you could comment on if you want saying that the groups look better across the top rather than down the side.
Thanks for the info. I'll comment there and wait until the template issues are resolved before reverting. — AjaxSmack 20:01, 10 October 2007 (UTC)

A Reason?

Hey WOSlinker!

I made a Template:Sunset Beach (TV series), but you've changed it to a nav box? Why? I think it looks better smaller, not stretched? Can you explain why did you make the change? Dmarex 19:27, 12 October 2007 (UTC)

I'm converting things over to Navboxes so that they are more consistent. I've changed the width back to what you had previously but still using a Navbox. -- WOSlinker 22:46, 12 October 2007 (UTC)

New location map

Hi. I've seen you've added these to quite a number of files. May I suggest you tweak the formatting slightly? As an example, see Hay Inclined Plane. Here I have added a <BR> before the gbmapping, to force the gridref onto its own line. I think this looks neater. It will automatically cope with users having a larger-than-default thumbnail setting. Cheers. EdJogg (talk) 11:35, 2 April 2008 (UTC)

Hi! Just another slight issue - would you mind disambiguating West Midlands to West Midlands (county) in the infoboxes please? Template:Todo3

Hi. I don't believe that Template:Todo3 qualifies for speedy deletion because it does provide some functionality that todo does not (namely that it can be customized to fit an alternate color/sizing scheme). But regardless of that, the template is in use. Should you ever have a need to nominate an in-use template for speedy deletion, please use <noinclude> tags around it so that every page that transcludes the template doesn't get added to CAT:CSD. Thanks. --B (talk) 12:58, 5 May 2008 (UTC)

conversion of college football venues templates

Hi, WOSlinker. Could you start checking nested navboxes conference column width in the expanded states when you do the conversion? When viewed in Internet Explorer (this does not occur in Firefox), if one of the columns is wider then 10em then the columns in the other nested navboxes (the other divisions) do not adjust and the column widths don't match and need to be told the same width. "11em" fixed Kansas and Alabama, but Louisiana required 12em. Thanks and let me know if this does not make sense. --Gwguffey (talk) 16:30, 5 May 2008 (UTC)

I nomally just use Firefox but I'll check them in IE in the future as well. -- WOSlinker (talk) 17:34, 5 May 2008 (UTC)

Museums template

Hi, can you explain this change? I'm template-dumb and am prone to doing things wrong when I touch them, but like to learn what I did so I don't do it again. Thanks! TCariMy travels 13:56, 13 July 2008 (UTC)

It looks like when that template was added to that page, it was substituted using rather than just adding WikiProject Museums. When it is SUBSTituted, the whole contents of the template are copied onto the page rather than just transposed, so if the template is then changed, the changes would not be shown on the page it was added to. Using SUBST also adds any noinclude sections of the template which is how I noticed this one as the Wikipedia:WikiProject_Museums was included in the Category:WikiProject banners category when it shouldn't have been. -- WOSlinker (talk) 15:19, 13 July 2008 (UTC)

Got it, thanks! TCariMy travels 19:43, 14 July 2008 (UTC)

MEA-expand revert

Hi,

Can I ask why you reverted your recent change to this banner? Seems okay to me... Chris Cunningham (not at work) - talk 23:03, 13 July 2008 (UTC)

Hi, If you check the What Links Here option for that page, you will see that most of the transclusions are on article pages rather than article talk pages. When WPBannerMeta is used, it also shows a warning banner on the pages before the talk banner. I think all those banners need moving onto the talk pages first before WPBannerMeta can be used. There is not that many to do but at the time, I didn't feel like doing it, so I reverted my changes. -- WOSlinker (talk) 06:54, 14 July 2008 (UTC)

Okay, no worries. Thanks for the insight. Chris Cunningham (not at work) - talk 07:56, 14 July 2008 (UTC)

Project templates tweaks

Why did you replace all occurences of ME-template and ME-category with parametrized calls of ME-project? Just inquiring. Is this connected to your standardization of project templates using WPBannerMeta? Súrendil (talk) 17:28, 5 August 2008 (UTC)

Sort of but not quite. While I have been converting project banners which don't have any classification options over to use WPBannerMeta, I don't have any plans to convert over any of the templates that do. What I did do though, is modify ME-project to include all the options that were in ME-template & ME-category so that it was possible to just use one template instead of three. There were also 2 or 3 other projects that were using more than one banner and I merged their templates as well. If the sinlge template is not quite working properly then let me know what is wrong and I'll try to fix it. -- WOSlinker (talk) 17:36, 5 August 2008 (UTC)

Category:WikiProject coopbanners??

I just noticed this subcat of CAT:WPB. I'm not entirely sure, however, what it's supposed to hold - any chance of a clarification? Happymelon 09:02, 7 August 2008 (UTC)

I'm not quite sure myself what the real purpose of the coopbanners are but they seemed a little different from project banners so I put them into a separate category. It looks like they are meant to show when projects are co-operating together. See Wikipedia:WikiProject Timeline Tracer for an example. Those banners don't seem to be used very often though. They could always be put into Category:Wikipedia Collaboration templates instead if you want to. --- WOSlinker (talk) 09:29, 7 August 2008 (UTC)

The plug

Given your stellar work in the field already, I thought (make that "hoped" :D) you might be interested in some work I've been doing. I've been analysing the parameters used in the various WikiProject banners still in CAT:WPB, and have a nice big spreadsheet of which templates use which parameters (and how many different ones are used by each banner!). I thought you might first of all like to know how comprehensive your campaign to convert all the non-quality-scale banners was: you only missed two banners! More proactively, however, there are 183 banners which only use quality and importance scales, with no other wierd parameters. If (wink wink nudge nudge :D) you happened to be idle one day and wanted some more templates to convert, these would be relatively easy to do! I have a list going at User:MelonBot/WikiProject banner stats, I'll try and update it with any other relevant details (and ultimately the complete list in wikitable form). Many thanks again for your work so far with the WikiProject banners; I hope you'll be able to help with the next phase of the deployment. Happymelon 21:33, 25 August 2008 (UTC)

Tennis templates

Hello, I've seen your work converting tennis tournaments templates to NavboxYears, and I thought you might help with one problem I have.

Tennis events frequently move over several locations, like the tournament currently known as Kingfisher Airlines Tennis Open, which had four locations in twelve years. The templates, for events like that, generally display the name of the city the event currently takes place in (for the Kingfisher event, Bangalore), and "tournaments". The problem is (still using the Kingfisher example) that when the template is used in articles about previous editions (as the 2007 Kingfisher Airlines Tennis Open), it still displays "Bangalore tournaments", even though the event at that time was in Mumbai.

In order to avoid having templates with the name of a city that doesn't correspond to the actual location, some editors have decided to put all the locations in the template, like with the Stockholm/Essen/Stuttgart/Madrid event here. I don't think piling up names like this is the best solution, as you end up having bloated templates, that could, for some tournaments, have 7 or 8 different city names in it (that very template could become Stockholm/Essen/Stuttgart/Madrid/Shanghai next year...).

So my question is : is it possible to add a function to these templates which would allow different names to be displayed on different articles ? I'm no template expert, and have no clue if it is possible, but I guess that would be the best option. Thanks, --Oxford St. (talk) 15:29, 20 September 2008 (UTC)

I've added the option to the Madrid Masters tournaments template to include a title parameter. e.g.

After changing a template, you would then need to add the title option on each article that used the template. -- WOSlinker (talk) 18:45, 20 September 2008 (UTC)

That's perfect. I'm going to add the option in every tennis template where it is needed. Thank you, --Oxford St. (talk) 20:01, 20 September 2008 (UTC)

Template:Callsigndis

Thanks for the conversion. I based the code for this on the code for Geodis, but I obviously grabbed the copy of it before this standardization was done. It's ironic, because the only thing that was bugging me about implementing this template was that the special tips for disambiguation pages didn't appear on the edit page anymore, but I had no idea where to go to ask about how to get them back. Now they're there — thanks again! Mlaffs (talk) 00:36, 31 December 2008 (UTC)

WikiProject Veronica Mars template

I reverted your edit to the Veronica Mars task force template documentation. Nested is a valid option on the template and there is no logical reason to remove it from the documentation. If you feel you had a valid reason for removing this, please contact me on my talk page with your reasons. Thank you. hornoir (talk) 14:45, 4 January 2009 (UTC)

There is a new way of collapsing which doesn't need the |nested= paramenter, which is already implemented on the WikiProject Veronica Mars template (via WPBannerMeta), so that parameter is no longer needed. If you look at the code for WPBannerMeta, you'll see that nested isn't used anywhere. -- WOSlinker (talk) 15:04, 4 January 2009 (UTC)
Thanks for clearing this up. I've changed the template and documentation to comply. Thanks again. hornoir (talk) 15:26, 4 January 2009 (UTC)

Template:WPStatistics

Just dropping you a note to let you know why I reverted your edit to this template. The text in the banner was agreed to by consensus by the members of the project. The documentation for WPBannerMeta is clear that alternative texts are acceptable. Regards —G716 <T·C> 19:57, 4 January 2009 (UTC)

Reassessing episode lists

Hi WOSlinker, regarding some recent reassessments you performed to episode lists, I'd like to point out that WP:ANIME assesses episode, chapter, and character lists on the normal scale (Stub, Start, C, B), unless the lists have been split out into sublists (such as List of Bleach episodes or List of Dragon Ball manga volumes). You can read WP:ANIME's list assessment instructions at WP:ANIME/ASSESS#Assessment guidelines. Thanks! ダイノガイ?!」(Dinoguy1000) 20:28, 5 January 2009 (UTC)

thanks, I'll bear that in mind next time. -- WOSlinker (talk) 20:37, 5 January 2009 (UTC)

Template help

I noticed you'd updated Template:WP Criminal and wanted to ask if you could help. I have no idea how to fix this. The project needs Template:WP Criminal and Template:WP Crime to properly use "listas" when necessary, but it is not doing so. Even when I've added, for example, "listas=Gein, Ed", it still lists under E. Can you help with this, or direct somewhere that can? Thanks. Wildhartlivie (talk) 01:49, 11 January 2009 (UTC)

Hi, The listas functionality in WPBannerMeta doesn't quite work at the moment (it sets the DEFAULTSORT but then doesn't use it), but is on the list to fix. You should post a message on the Template talk:WPBannerMeta#listas functionality page about it and see if Happy-melon can help fix it. -- WOSlinker (talk) 09:39, 11 January 2009 (UTC)

WPBM conversion tracking

Hi WOS linker. I noticed your tracking table on Template talk:WPBannerMeta. I like the idea. I was going to suggest that we create a subpage for tracking conversions. On it we could list the templates we are working on and what stage of development each are at. For example there could be checklists for

  • WikiProject consulted
  • Sandbox version completed
  • Implemented
  • Fully tested

This would be quite helpful as I often lose track of the ones I have worked on. What do you think? Martin 22:42, 12 January 2009 (UTC)

Hi, Yes, that would be good, say at Template talk:WPBannerMeta/Conversion. I've tended to work on simpler ones than you have (so far) and so haven't really needed to consult with any of the projects or even do sandbox versions but it's starting to get more towards the stage where there not so many simple ones left and it's going to be useful to have a talk page about it. -- WOSlinker (talk) 22:48, 12 January 2009 (UTC)
  Done. Martin 23:38, 12 January 2009 (UTC)

Todo list

I wonder if you could incorporate an article-specific to-do list on your hook, so that it only displays the generic one is there is no /to_do subpage. I noticed that's what they were doing on the Beatles template and thought it might be a good idea generally. Martin 13:10, 14 January 2009 (UTC)

Maybe you missed this question? Martin 18:34, 17 January 2009 (UTC)
Yes, I missed it. I've now got a version in the sandbox, see the 3rd example in the docs. If it's ok, I'll ask for it to be moved over. -- WOSlinker (talk) 18:50, 17 January 2009 (UTC)

To Do Lists

What exactly is your method of determining when a to-do list is not being used? I asked because I see that you're removing them from a lot of articles, and you removed one that had just been added the day before you came through.  BIGNOLE  (Contact me) 13:13, 14 January 2009 (UTC)

I've just been removing them where the to-do list doesn't actually exist. If it is going to be used then it's easy enough to add it back where there is actually something to put in the list. -- WOSlinker (talk) 21:57, 14 January 2009 (UTC)
Also, there is a Category:To do, unused which you can use to find empty lists. -- WOSlinker (talk) 22:02, 14 January 2009 (UTC)

I think Bignole was referring to Talk:The Texas Chainsaw Massacre (franchise) where there was an existing to-do list. Martin 22:56, 14 January 2009 (UTC)

That was a mistake on my part, should have looked more closely. Sorry. -- WOSlinker (talk) 23:00, 14 January 2009 (UTC)

As a matter of curiosity, why are you changing "wpbs" to "WPBS"? Both are redirects to WikiProjectBannerShell. Ed Fitzgerald t / c 22:05, 18 January 2009 (UTC)

Oh. I generally prefer to use lower case whenever possible, as being easier to read than collections of caps, but to each their own. Ed Fitzgerald t / c 23:29, 18 January 2009 (UTC)
I was doing the same thing, till someone pointed out that it IS an acronym... Any thoughts on reducing the full name to the acronym? -- Mjquin_id (talk) 23:49, 19 January 2009 (UTC)
I don't support it matters too much either way, all down to personal preference. There is another banner called WikiProjectBanners which has a link of WPB, so if you use the sort version, it's easier to remember WPB & WPBS rather than WikiProjectBanners & WikiProjectBannerShell. -- WOSlinker (talk)

Cat importance

Have you broken it? Please see Category:NA-importance Buckinghamshire articles. Martin 17:37, 21 January 2009 (UTC)

Indirectly, my editprotected request was done but it wasn't done correctly. :( -- WOSlinker (talk) 19:04, 21 January 2009 (UTC)

I didn't doubt you for a minute ;) By the way, someone is putting an awful hack on your todo hook at Template:WPBeatles. Maybe you can look in and advise them? Martin 14:10, 22 January 2009 (UTC)
That was partly me. I just copied the code over from the collapsed text into the hook. It's trying to show an article todo (if it exists) and the project todo at the same time. It could do with a bit of a tidy up though & something to show some edit links. -- WOSlinker (talk) 19:03, 22 January 2009 (UTC)

Template:Template sandbox notice

Your recent edit of this page broke instances of the template that had a subpage-name parameter with uppercase letters in it (a common situation I would expect) - the condition looking for a sandbox would never match and the template never display the sandbox text. I believe I have effectively fixed this without undoing the intent of your changes by converting both sides of the comparison to lowercase. I am not sufficiently experienced with parser functions to know if this was a good change, but having tested it, I believe it is functional. Please feel free to improve as you see fit. I note the documentation needs updating to reflect this change, however I will refrain from applying changes until the template itself seems stable. --Rogerb67 (talk) 14:53, 23 January 2009 (UTC)

I hadn't really noticed that parameter. The reason I added the lower case option was for some pages where sandbox was called Sandbox. Thanks for fixing my edit. -- WOSlinker (talk) 18:35, 23 January 2009 (UTC)

I also commented out the categories in Template:Welcome-personal/Sandbox, since it hadn't been edited for a while, and was cluttering the category pages. --Rogerb67 (talk) 15:01, 23 January 2009 (UTC)

Proposed deletion of List of The Bill episodes/8

A proposed deletion template has been added to the article List of The Bill episodes/8, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process because of the following concern:

no indication of notability

All contributions are appreciated, but this article may not satisfy Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and the deletion notice should explain why (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the dated prod notice, but please explain why you disagree with the proposed deletion in your edit summary or on its talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised because, even though removing the deletion notice will prevent deletion through the proposed deletion process, the article may still be deleted if it matches any of the speedy deletion criteria or it can be sent to Articles for Deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. Boston (talk) 16:06, 28 January 2009 (UTC)

  • My note about not wishing further discussion was directed at another editor with whom I have already discussed similar topics ad naseum. I apologize for the bad vibes. It's certainly ok to remove prod as long as tags are left in place.
That's ok. -- WOSlinker (talk) 22:22, 28 January 2009 (UTC)

Category:Template-Class Cartoon Network pages

Please don't speedy this category. I realize it is currently empty, but it is used in the Wikiproject WP:TOON for assessing articles. Just because it is empty at the moment does not necessarily mean it will always be empty. I've reverted you once before, and you added the speedy to it again, so I'll just drop you a note about this. Yngvarr (t) (c) 22:51, 31 January 2009 (UTC)

Ok, I've removed the additional categories then, as the page is going to be just a redirect and doesn't need any other categories anymore. -- WOSlinker (talk) 23:09, 31 January 2009 (UTC)

Category:Template-Class University of California articles

I have reverted your edit to Category:Template-Class University of California articles adding db-catempty as it does not make any sense. The page is a redirect page and as such it should be empty. The page it is redirecting to does contain entries, making it is a valid category redirect page. As I now see, due to an edit conflict that you had done so on other pages as well, I will be rolling back those edits. Dbiel (Talk) 22:58, 31 January 2009 (UTC)

db-catempty

I've been trying to tidy up the Class & Importance categories and have nominated a number of Categories for deletion. If there are any categories which just contain a redirect and do not have any other categorisation, then in future, I'll leave them alone and not nominate them. Any others though where there are duplicates, I will still be nominating them. -- WOSlinker (talk) 23:07, 31 January 2009 (UTC)

PLEASE!!!!!!!!!!!!! make use the edit summary box - It is an extremely bad practice that make much more work for other editors when you fail to do so. Also please use the correct tag. Redirect pages should NEVER be tagged as db-catempty, they are not category pages and they should always be empty. Dbiel (Talk) 23:14, 31 January 2009 (UTC)
I normal do use it. Not sure why I didn't for my recent edits. I should have. For some of the categories that I've been putting the requests in for I've actually been putting in BOTH db-catempty and category redirect, so that when whoever does the delete, the can see that the page is not in use as there is a different page which has replaced it. -- WOSlinker (talk) 23:19, 31 January 2009 (UTC)

Category:High-priority Cheshire articles

Why did you change Category:High-priority Cheshire articles to a redirect page and then leave the other category entries on the page? see diff

I add the redirect, then leave a day or so and then nominate as a db-catempty, so I don't normall change the cats. -- WOSlinker (talk) 23:30, 31 January 2009 (UTC)
That is a very bad practice. First it is no longer a category page and therefor the use of db-catempty is very wrong. Second, the redirect page is there for a purpose which is to direct users to the correct page. Third, leaving the other categories just makes it harder for other users to chose the correct category name first. Dbiel (Talk) 23:34, 31 January 2009 (UTC)
What is the best way then? Delete or redirect? -- WOSlinker (talk) 23:35, 31 January 2009 (UTC)

Category:Cheshire articles by xxxxx

I am not sure what you are trying to accomplish, but you are sure making a mess in the process See: Category:Cheshire articles by priority You need to change all the related category links so that everything redirect to the correct name. Please do not do it half way. Make sure that the new category contains the same category links as the old redirected category, or if those have also been redirect, then the correct new names of those categories Dbiel (Talk) 23:42, 31 January 2009 (UTC)

I haven't put redirects on all of the categories yet as not all of the articles have moved over to the new categories. Once empty, it was going to put the redirect in place. -- WOSlinker (talk) 23:44, 31 January 2009 (UTC)
I do not follow that logic. The whole purpose of the redirect tag is to help people to use the correct category. It also serves as a reminder that any article found there need to be re-categorized. Waiting until the category is empty defeats the whole purpose of the tag. Dbiel (Talk) 23:56, 31 January 2009 (UTC)
If you read the documentation on Template:Category redirect, it states that "Placing this template on a category will alert a bot to reclassify all pages from that category to the redirect target.", however, a bot would not be able to reclassify those articles as the category is not added directly to those pages but is added through the use of the project banner tempates. So I like to wait for it to clear rather than adding it and then the bot not being able to do anything about those things. -- WOSlinker (talk) 00:00, 1 February 2009 (UTC)
Thanks for that explaination. So here is another question: Why do pages appear in Category:Low-priority Cheshire articles but the category does not appear on the page. Example page: Talk:Acton Bridge Dbiel (Talk) 00:30, 1 February 2009 (UTC)
You should have a read of Help:Category#Adding a category by using a template. Basically, what it say is that if a template is changed, any page that includes that template is not immediatly updated but is added to a "job queue" which runs on the server a low priority task, so it can take a few days or sometime a week or so for all the pages to be updated. It is possible to force through the changes quicker by doing a Null Edit on each of the articles though (if you really want to). -- WOSlinker (talk) 00:40, 1 February 2009 (UTC)
Try a Null Edit on Talk:Acton Bridge and then check Category:Low-importance Cheshire articles and Category:Low-priority Cheshire articles and you'll see that it has moved. -- WOSlinker (talk) 00:44, 1 February 2009 (UTC)
OK that works; but should that not be part of the function of the bot? It seems rather tedious to have to make null edits on thousands of articles when the category is changed in a banner template. Sorry, I missed your previous post Dbiel (Talk) 01:04, 1 February 2009 (UTC)
Null edits aren't necessary, it's sufficient just to purge the page's cache on the server. ダイノガイ?!」(Dinoguy1000) 20:40, 2 February 2009 (UTC)
Purge does not appear to work. After reading the previous posted link, I would not expect it to work. 21:43, 2 February 2009 (UTC)

DVD list

OK, it just seems to me that a fact backed up with a reference is better than one without, as it shows the reader it's not just a random date plucked out of the air. Also, the fact that it had already been released didn't stop people changing the Battlefield release date from 26/12/08 which is why I added that reference. Cheers, Miremare 23:09, 1 February 2009 (UTC)

Ok, I've added a hidden comment which people will see when they try to edit it. -- WOSlinker (talk) 23:23, 1 February 2009 (UTC)

Your edits to WikiProject assessment templates

Hello, I noticed that your edit to severe created this line:

|PROJECT = WikiProject Severe weather

when it should be this:

|PROJECT = Severe weather

since the former creates a redlink (with the word "WikiProject" duplicated) when the WPBannerMeta template is used. So far I have fixed this for severe and winterstorm, but I'm not sure how many other banners are affected. Thanks!

Category:Needed-Class Computing articles

Were you planning to put a custom mask on the computing banner? MartinMsgj 16:04, 20 February 2009 (UTC)

It was just that all those sub-projects already had the needed categories created, so I created the computing Needed category to put them into (similar to the other classes). As it appears that they are all empty, they could all just be put up for speedy deletion instead of creating a custom class for the banner. -- WOSlinker (talk) 19:17, 20 February 2009 (UTC)

Wp:Aviation

Thank you for your help with the banner changeover, you were basically answering/fixing my questions before I even had to ask. There are just a few things I think would be nice to have before it goes live. Can the show/hide section have two sections, an "Additional information:" section and an "Associated taskforces:" section? With your creation of Template:WPBannerMeta/hooks/bchecklist5 is Template:WPAVIATION/class needed anymore? There are some maintenance categories I'd like to work in. With the b-class checklist, anytime an item is checked "no" it's placed in a category. For example if b-1=no , it goes in Category:Aviation articles needing attention to coverage and accuracy. Also, if it's rated start, C, or B and the checklist is not fully completed with all "yes", it goes in Category:Aviation articles with incomplete B-Class checklists. Thanks for any help you can give - Trevor MacInnis (Contribs) 20:46, 21 February 2009 (UTC)

Hi, Just a quick answer to a your questions at the moment, I can do the changes, but that will have to be tomorrow. Anyway, yes you can have two show/hide sections but it will need a bit of extra coding adding. hooks/bchecklist5 & class are both needed. The bchecklist5 is just used for the display and the class part is used to workout which categories to use. -- WOSlinker (talk) 23:18, 21 February 2009 (UTC)
I've added the extra categories now. -- WOSlinker (talk) 00:08, 22 February 2009 (UTC)
Thanks for your work on this, but there a still a few bugs to work out. The checklist doesn't show up, even when rated C or B, unless at least 1 item is filled in ("b1=yes" for example). Also, the example code that is supposed to show on the right of the banner doesn't at all. - Trevor MacInnis (Contribs) 03:43, 24 February 2009 (UTC)
I've fixed it now show show on Start as well. The example code is only displayed when none of the bclass criteria have been filled in. (It shouldn't need to be shown if some are filled in as it should already be in use at that point). -- WOSlinker (talk) 15:20, 24 February 2009 (UTC)

Thanks again, I did a bit of an edit to the category page to get closer to what I'm looking for. I've been thinking that the checklist/maintenance categories could be useful to other projects as well, could the page be changed to allow the use of either 5 or 6 checks and made into a generalized hook. Then all project could use them if they want. - Trevor MacInnis (Contribs) 01:13, 25 February 2009 (UTC)

I've done a further edit to the category page as well. See if that is what you are after. It now put the articles in the categories if yes is NOT specified rather than only when no was specified. It could be made in a more generalised hook but it would have taked a bit more work, so for the moment, I made a project specific version. If more projects want to do something similar later on then we could do something then. The best page for that may to be to add some options directly to Template:WPBannerMeta/hooks/bchecklist5. -- WOSlinker (talk) 18:27, 25 February 2009 (UTC)

tfnested

Hi, what is this hook actually for, do you know? I noticed that WPMED had used it on theirs, but I'm pretty sure they don't need it as they've already used the taskforce hook. Could you take a look please? I'm out for the weekend. Thanks, Martinmsgj 22:33, 27 February 2009 (UTC)

The HOOK_NESTED is used to add the extra taskforces to the banner titles when they are nested. Yes, it is annoying to have to add the taskforce hooks in two places but because they are used in different parts of the banner then that just they way it has to be. :( -- 23:41, 27 February 2009 (UTC)
I didn't know this before. Thanks, Martinmsgj 20:34, 1 March 2009 (UTC)

Couple of things

Hi WOSL,

  1. Could I have your input on the discussion about the feasibility of incorporating the 5 point checklist into the standard code for the B-class checklist.
  2. I have started to create a template to automatically produce documentation for WPBM banners. It's at Template:WPBannerMeta/createdoc but is far from finished. Any help would be appreciated. Martinmsgj 15:34, 4 March 2009 (UTC)

On item 1, the 6 point checklist in the standard code and the 5 point checklist (as used on the AVIATION template) as a little different in a few ways other than just the numbr of points.
  • The 6 point one puts things in C if any of the points aren't yes and B if they are all yes.
  • The 5 point one puts things in Start if only 0,1, or 2 points are yes, C if 3 or 4 points are yes and B if all 5 points are yes.
I think this could be achieved by changing the 6 point display part of the code to not show the 6th item if it was set to "hidden". e.g. |b6 = hidden. And changing the Template:WPBannerMeta/class code to work differently if b6=hidden is set.
On item 2, I did look at adding some automatic documentation a while ago, got a little way with it, but then didn't get any further
It may help if an extra parameter was added to the main template, |TEMPLATEDOCS = . If it was set to "auto", it would show these new docs. If it was set to "doc" then it would be like adding the documentation template and if it was a link, that existed, e.g. |TEMPLATEDOCS = Template:any page/subpage then it would be like using Template:any page/subpage.
Would also probably need DOCHOOKS to match all the other HOOKS but that could be looked at later on as they docs are developed.
-- WOSlinker (talk) 19:33, 4 March 2009 (UTC)

On item 1. I suspect it might only be a quirk of a few projects which classify into Start/C/B. Have you seen it widely used? In either case, would it be better to use a custom mask in these cases, rather than cluttering up the default mask? And about the display, it should be pretty easy to code that if it is always the sixth point which is not used.

On item 2. (Shall we start a new thread for each of these items? :) I like that idea. My idea was that another copy of the banner would be put onto the documentation subpage, and /istemplate page would detect that it was a documentation subpage and direct it to /createdoc. But a new parameter TEMPLATEDOCS might be neater. The main problem I have come across is how to render the name of a parameter. For example if a banner used attention = , how could we automatically show the "attention-needed" parameter on the documentation? Martinmsgj 19:46, 4 March 2009 (UTC)

I can't think of a nice way to get the parameter values. Might just end up having to add lots more parameters!
|attention={}
|ATTENTION_CAT =
|infobox={}
|INFOBOX_CAT =
|TEMPLATEDOCS = auto
|attention_paramdoc=attention
|infobox_paramdoc=needs-infobox
|note 1_paramdoc=screenshot
|...etc...

-- WOSlinker (talk) 19:58, 4 March 2009 (UTC)

Wow, you've been busy with these conversions! Just a comment. When you post these editprotected requests could you make sure the sandbox copy is exactly as it needs to be? If I copy it across then obviously I can check and fix things (e.g. take sandbox out of BANNER_NAME) but another admin is not necessarily going to know that and it would mean another request to fix things. Also, I think it's a good idea to add the documentation template to all of them, even if there isn't any documentation yet. Do you agree? — Martin (MSGJ · talk) 23:44, 9 March 2009 (UTC)

I'll try and remember to remove the /sandbox from the BANNER_NAME next time and add the documentation template to all. -- WOSlinker (talk) 23:51, 9 March 2009 (UTC)
Feel free to drop me a note if you want a protected one changing. It's probably a good idea to leave the proposal on the talk page for a couple of days before converting, just in case anyone has any concerns. Cheers, — Martin (MSGJ · talk) 13:50, 10 March 2009 (UTC)

Removing cat

Hi, Would you care to explain why you removed the banners cat from the Led Zeppelin template but added it to other articles? I'm trying to follow what you're doing but can't see the logic. MegX (talk) 07:45, 17 March 2009 (UTC)

Hi, The Led Zeppelin template is already in Category:WikiProject banners with quality assessment which is a subcategory of Category:WikiProject banners, so it didn't need to be in the WikiProject banners category as well. The other edits I've recently done to a few /doc pages is to put some sandbox versions into Category:WikiProject banners under development. This is all just to tidyup the membership of Category:WikiProject banners so that only banners that are not using WPBannerMeta are still in that category. -- WOSlinker (talk) 07:51, 17 March 2009 (UTC)

Okay. MegX (talk) 08:01, 17 March 2009 (UTC)

WikiProject banners category

You might want to add an explanation to the edit summary when you remove Category:WikiProject banners from templates. if removing it from templates that use WPBannerMeta is the norm now I can think of probably dozens of templates that should have it removed as well. I'll add this to my general cleanup tasklist for when I see these. Tothwolf (talk) 18:42, 19 March 2009 (UTC)

class template

I left this code [3] in place because I intended to use it as an example to show why we should be passing B_CHECKLIST and FULL_QUALITY_SCALE to the custom class template. As it is currently, if either of these parameters are changed in the project's WPBannerMeta template, they won't have any effect on a custom class template because they aren't being passed through for logic code to make use of them. I consider this to be a bug but I just finished updating the doc for WikiProject IRC and I hadn't yet a chance to ping Happy-melon. Tothwolf (talk) 19:04, 19 March 2009 (UTC)

If you want to revert my change, feel free to do so. Have you seen that the parameters passed through to the class page have already been discussed on the talk page before. -- WOSlinker (talk) 21:29, 19 March 2009 (UTC)
As long as everything still works as it did before, I don't see any reason to change it since those parameters aren't being passed yet. I hadn't fully investigated the talk page so I hadn't seen that discussion. I've been a little preoccupied getting everything else done but I guess I should add something to that discussion myself. The way I see it, not passing these parameters is a flaw because the class template should not need editing if a project decides to later implement full B-class checking with B_CHECKLIST or enable/disable the expanded class options with FULL_QUALITY_SCALE. Tothwolf (talk) 21:47, 19 March 2009 (UTC)
Btw, the extra #default=NA did introduce a bug, though just cosmetic. Tothwolf (talk) 22:01, 19 March 2009 (UTC)
Yes, you're right. I've now fixed it. -- WOSlinker (talk) 22:26, 19 March 2009 (UTC)

Two things

  1. Do you have any comments regarding Template:Cat class/sandbox? (I just noticed your sandbox version with a capital S.)
  2. Do you have anything to add to the assessment_link discussion we were having?

Thanks! — Martin (MSGJ · talk) 11:20, 15 March 2009 (UTC)

I've just gone and added "white-space:nowrap;" to the Class Template so that the images and text are on the same line now. I'll respond to the assessment_link discussion on the template talk page. -- WOSlinker (talk) 13:29, 15 March 2009 (UTC)
Also, just wondering if when there are redlinks, should they be setup like the (create) options on the banner warning pages with the preload & editintro options? -- WOSlinker (talk) 13:33, 15 March 2009 (UTC)
???
Yes, I think that would be a very good idea. Could I also have your opinion on my recent support for a 5-class checklist? (It won't do the Start/C differentiation by default, but that can be done using the custom mask quite easily.) Thanks, — Martin (MSGJ · talk) 12:08, 16 March 2009 (UTC)
I think the check at the top of Template:WPBannerMeta/bchecklist will need changing a bit.

Currently:

{{#if:{}{}{}{}{}{}|1|0}}

To something like:

{{#switch:{}{}{}{}{}{unused}|unused=0|#default=1}}

-- WOSlinker (talk) 13:17, 16 March 2009 (UTC)

Hmm, why did you specify the default value of b6 there? In this case defining b6 as blank (i.e. |b6=) will cause the checklist to display, when it wouldn't previously. — Martin (MSGJ · talk) 13:42, 16 March 2009 (UTC)
Would this work? — Martin (MSGJ · talk) 13:45, 16 March 2009 (UTC)
{{#switch:{}{}{}{}{}{}||unused=0|#default=1}}
Yes, yours is better. -- WOSlinker (talk) 15:16, 16 March 2009 (UTC)
Okay, I've done it. Shall we try it with aviation? I've also got Germany ready to convert soon and that uses 5 point. — Martin (MSGJ · talk) 15:28, 16 March 2009 (UTC)
There's a sandbox for aviation, so probably best to give it a go in their first. And some testcases too. -- WOSlinker (talk) 17:09, 16 March 2009 (UTC)
Seems to be working okay. — Martin (MSGJ · talk) 17:38, 16 March 2009 (UTC)
Nearly. I don't think criteria should be linked if b6=unused (since it's not the WP1.0 B class Critera being used).

and in the Aviation example, it doesn't show if class=Start. I'm not sure if this requirement is the same for other 5 point checklists or just the Aviation one. -- WOSlinker (talk) 19:12, 16 March 2009 (UTC)

Hmm, perhaps there are too many differences to incorporate it? On a different note, I've made a new version of the quality scale subtemplate. I would like to generate some examples of it to present to people for consideration, but I'm not sure how best to do it. — Martin (MSGJ · talk) 20:48, 16 March 2009 (UTC)

Do you think "criteria" be linked to {}#Quality scale as well in the case of a 5-point checklist? — Martin (MSGJ · talk) 07:03, 21 March 2009 (UTC)

Yes, I think you are right there. It should with be linked to the ASSESSMENT_LINK or not linked at all (if ASSESSMENT_LINK is not passed over). -- WOSlinker (talk) 08:12, 21 March 2009 (UTC)

Wikipedia:WikiProject Tropical cyclones/Assessment/Tables

Class icons

I noticed quite a bit of transclusion changing of the class icons on this template: Template:Sex in SF talk. I don't care which format is used, but it has recently been changed from xx, to icon-xx, then back again by you, then the classicon to xx, which caused a bot to claim copyright infringment, breaking the template.

I cannot find anything that says any of these are prefered, so i wondered why people are changing them? Also, if FT is going to cause Bot psychosis, either the template or the bot is wrong, so you might want to avoid ithat one t until it is sorted.

Thanks for other fixed though!YobMod 08:24, 8 April 2009 (UTC)

Seconded, this also caused problems at T:TDYK. The bot issue seems to be fixed now, but in any case there is not a need currently to change to use icon (which is the edit if yours that caused icon to appear at T:TDYK). Just FYI. rʨanaɢ talk/contribs 18:12, 8 April 2009 (UTC)

Hi, I guess you're editing with AWB, so do you think that you could have a stab at Wikipedia:WikiProject Video games/id Software? Thanks! JACOPLANE • 2009-04-10 09:13

WPNZ

I'm just wondering what to do with the quality classes on this banner as only template and disambig are used ... What do you think? — Martin (MSGJ · talk) 06:55, 15 April 2009 (UTC)

There not very many in those categories either, so you could just use the normal scale. -- WOSlinker (talk) 07:02, 15 April 2009 (UTC)
Okay I've done that now. I do think we should try to avoid leaving templates with lots of warnings displayed. It gives the impression that we've left a job half-finished. I see you're on 92% now! I think the last 5% will be the hardest :) — Martin (MSGJ · talk) 07:37, 15 April 2009 (UTC)

On further thought, there seemed to be almost 1000 categories which have been tagged as NA, so I've implemented a custom mask to force these to Category-Class. — Martin (MSGJ · talk) 11:49, 15 April 2009 (UTC)

Cat class

Could you please look at Template talk:Cat class#Category:Tennessee templates? I know you had a solution to this which was rejected before, but perhaps we can find the best solution to the Assessed vs Assessed-Class issue. Thanks, — Martin (MSGJ · talk) 16:52, 17 April 2009 (UTC)

Template deletion

You've listed two of my templates for deletion with the notation: "copy to user space". I thought they were in user space. Could you let me know what this means? Do I need to object to the deletions? Thanks. --..BlackThorTalkContribs 11:01, 18 April 2009 (UTC)

Hi, those two pages are at: Template:User BlackThor/1 and Template:User BlackThor/links. They should be somewhere like: User:BlackThor/1 and User:BlackThor/links. I'll move them over and just leave the templates versions to be deleted. -- WOSlinker (talk) 11:42, 18 April 2009 (UTC)
I've done the moves & changed your homepage, see [4] -- WOSlinker (talk) 11:57, 18 April 2009 (UTC)

substcheck

Are you happy with my proposed implementation detailed at Template talk:WPBannerMeta#Banner substitution? I must admit that I don't really understand how it works but I've tested it and it does seem to! Clever stuff. — Martin (MSGJ · talk) 14:21, 18 April 2009 (UTC)

Oh and I'm guessing the answer to this next question is "no", but is there any other possible way we might have of finding instances of substituted banners which are out in the wild now? This method will help to find future instances easily, but is there anything that can be done with the others? — Martin (MSGJ · talk) 14:23, 18 April 2009 (UTC)
You can use the search options to find things sometimes:
  • Looks for WPBannerMeta on talk pages, didn't find much useful - [5]
  • Looks for innercollapse on talk pages, didn't find much useful - [6]
  • Looks for messagebox standard on talk pages, many substituted banners but difficult to find just project ones - [7]
  • Looks for messagebox standard nested on talk pages, found a few that need fixing - [8]
-- WOSlinker (talk) 15:21, 18 April 2009 (UTC)

Thanks for that. By the way, if you get a free moment, do you fancy lending a hand at Template:ChristianityWikiProject/sandbox? It's the biggest I've taken on yet. I've got a todo list on the talkpage. Thanks, — Martin (MSGJ · talk) 22:04, 19 April 2009 (UTC)

Fmbox

Hi WOSlinker. Thanks for suggesting using fmbox in MediaWiki:Sp-contributions-footer and MediaWiki:Sp-contributions-footer-anon, it's about time! Since I'm in a hurry (going to a friends birthday party) I thought it was quicker to leave a message here. And you might like to fix these things yourself anyway:

  • You forgot to sign your messages on those talk pages. (I too often miss that when I add pre boxes with code.)
  • Your code suggestions need some tweaking to work right. See the code in the examples at Template talk:Fmbox#About this template. See their "style/textstyle=" parameter, and the anon version needs the surrounding div or the anontools get all weird.

--David Göthberg (talk) 16:43, 19 April 2009 (UTC)

I've changed style to textstyle & added the div tags. There are a few others that may want changing to fmbox as well:
-- WOSlinker (talk) 17:22, 19 April 2009 (UTC)
Your code is looking fine. I'll deploy that in some hour after I have fixed another thing. (I need to put a warning box on fmbox itself that it is high-risk and used in the interface. Since we had an unknowing admin doing an experimental edit on it today.)
Oh, thanks for that list. I took a look, some of them really need updating, and the rest should probably be updated anyway. I'll do them later too. Actually, the reason we (me and Happy-Melon) haven't gone on an update spree yet is that we built the fmbox, so we hesitate to be the ones that "enforce" it. But it seems people like it, so I guess we can start deploying it more widely.
--David Göthberg (talk) 22:10, 19 April 2009 (UTC)
I've just been through that list, converted all but MediaWiki:Readonly lag, which I have a nasty feeling doesn't take wikimarkup. Happymelon 10:05, 20 April 2009 (UTC)
There's just the initial two left to do now.
-- WOSlinker (talk) 10:38, 20 April 2009 (UTC)
WOSlinker: I have now updated MediaWiki:Sp-contributions-footer and MediaWiki:Sp-contributions-footer-anon.
Happy-melon: Ouch, yeah MediaWiki:Readonly lag should probably be kept as hardcoded. Those hardcoded links usually mean it can't take wikimarkup. And it would be hard to test if it takes wikimarkup, since we would have to wait until the next time it is shown. But more importantly, even if it takes wikimarkup: Since it is shown when there is a database problem it might have trouble loading fmbox from the database...

Thanks. The bullet points on MediaWiki:Protectedpagetext don't seem to show up correctly when using view source though, see MediaWiki_talk:Protectedpagetext#li_bullet_points. -- WOSlinker (talk) 18:17, 20 April 2009 (UTC)

Template:AlienProject

Recently you edited Template:AlienProject to add the "substcheck" and "assessment link" features. Subsequently, all of the importance assessements in the project banners were broken (in all talk pages using the template, "Importance" shows up as "???" even though the field is filled in, and when the 1.0 Assessment bot ran its course all of the importance assessements were lost; see here). I've tried to fix the problem but to no avail. Other project templates I'm involved with, to which you have made identical changes, have not experienced this problem. Could you help me out with fixing this? Thanks. --IllaZilla (talk) 04:50, 27 April 2009 (UTC)

Welcome to the future of WikiProject banners ... :) Seriously, is there anything you don't like about it? — Martin (MSGJ · talk) 11:42, 27 April 2009 (UTC)
Yes. I don't like that it was changed without discussion or explanation. Please feel free to discuss and explain. Ling.Nut (talkWP:3IAR) 11:45, 27 April 2009 (UTC)
Well, speaking personally (I'm sure WOSlinker will reply himself in due course), we have a tradition of being bold here and making edits, without prior discussion, if we believe we are improving things. I will be happy to explain the benefits of the conversion to you (maybe at Template talk:WikiProject Endangered Languages?) In the meantime you might like to read WPBM for more background behind the meta template. I've tweaked a few settings on your banner to return it to more like its previous appearance and also remove some options which were apparently not being used. — Martin (MSGJ · talk) 12:38, 27 April 2009 (UTC)
We are just trying to convert over most of the project banners to to use the WPBannerMeta template to provide some more consistency and ease of update (while still allowing plenty of customisation). Most of the banners are simple to convert, and after conversion, still have the same features as before, so I haven't tended to do any discussing before making the changes, as from a usage point of view, nothing changes. Where banners have been more complicated with lots of notes or taskforces, I have done a sandbox version and placed comments on the talk page before conversion. I did make a little mistake in convering over WPENLANG, in that I didn't keep the original image. I think I must have removed it as it looked a little odd just being a big white box. That can be easily fixed & I see that Martin has now fixed it. -- WOSlinker (talk) 19:38, 27 April 2009 (UTC)

Just added a couple of your edit requests. I just wondered where MediaWiki:Uncategorizedcategories-summary is displayed and how you knew about this title. — Martin (MSGJ · talk) 21:20, 30 April 2009 (UTC)

Thanks. It is displayed at the top of Special:UncategorizedCategories and the other one is displayed at Special:MostLinkedTemplates. Adjusting WikiProject California banner for University of California

Hi, I was wondering how difficult it would be to adjust WikiProject California to include a task force for University of California, and if there are any special issues that need to be considered for task forces of two fairly independent projects like WP Cal and WP Universities, and if you would be able to adjust the banner if the consensus is for the conversion. I've started the merge/task force discussion at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject University of California#Converting to task force of WikiProject California. -Optigan13 (talk) 05:58, 6 May 2009 (UTC)

I've added the taskforce option to a version in the template sandbox. You can always tweak it if you want. When you are ready to push it to live, you'll just need to do a editprotected request on the talk page. -- WOSlinker (talk) 06:32, 6 May 2009 (UTC)
Should we add
|BANNER_NAME = {Template:WikiProject California}

so that the existing template can use WikiProject California? — Martin (MSGJ · talk) 07:18, 6 May 2009 (UTC)

Good idea, I've changed it. -- WOSlinker (talk) 17:29, 6 May 2009 (UTC)

Template fun

Hi, I noticed your competant at editing Template:D&D amoung others templates. D&D makes use of a class Bottom-importance. Could you edit Template:Chess-WikiProject so that the lass Bottom-importance would also work. SunCreator (talk) 23:12, 6 May 2009 (UTC)

It's a little bit tricky. You could have a look at the code of Template:WPRocketry and see how it's done there. Or one of us can do it if you're having trouble. — Martin (MSGJ · talk) 11:35, 7 May 2009 (UTC)
When I tried to copy Template:WPRocketry, see Template:Chess-WikiProject/sandbox, I encountered an issue of capitialisation of the category names. Hence why I asked WOSlinker who is more knowledgable then myself. If you can add anything yourself would welcome your input. Regards, SunCreator (talk) 17:27, 7 May 2009 (UTC)

Selected biography

Hi, another contributor made a change to this template regarding image placement. While the changes streamline the code a little, the text now bumps right up against the image where there was a small bit of padding before. Could you take a look and mayhaps help me reset it? --Jeremy (blah blah) 09:59, 8 May 2009 (UTC)

Taskforce hook

Would there be any advantage in putting some of this code into a core? If so, could you help me with it? I thought I could be clever and merge the templatepage version as well, but didn't get very far. Thanks, — Martin (MSGJ · talk) 11:37, 7 May 2009 (UTC)

Yes, there could be. I've also noticed that both WPBannerMeta/core & WPBannerMeta/taskforce pass the taskforce importances through the WPBannerMeta/importance template, when there is only a need to do that once. We could make which would be a copy of the taskforce code from WPBannerMeta/core, then change WPBannerMeta/core to call WPBannerMeta/taskforces/core and then change WPBannerMeta/taskforce so that it does not use the WPBannerMeta/importance template. Can't really do much on it now though, will need to wait until later on today when I'll have a bit more time. -- WOSlinker (talk) 12:35, 7 May 2009 (UTC)
Not sure if I'm understanding. The main core only supports 5 whereas the hook supports 10 ... I'm sure there's something clever we can do here though. I've been thinking. As Protected editing rights is not going to happen, the only way you're going to edit WPBM is through RfA. Now obviously you are a fully trusted editor, but it is also necessary to demonstrate familiarity with the policies and guidelines and this is not something you have the opportunity of doing very often in your work here. It is not necessary to write a featured article; I was wondering if any of the following areas might attract you: XfD discussions, good article reviews, policy talk pages, new page patrol, wikiproject involvement, ... Let me know what you think. — Martin (MSGJ · talk) 18:13, 7 May 2009 (UTC)
This sort of change needs to be done in the sandbox version first anyway, so protected editing rights doesn't really come into it. I have used WP:TFD & WP:CFD a bit (& even worked on the odd article or two, although it was in 2007.) but haven't really looked at many of the other WP:POLICYies. -- WOSlinker (talk) 18:33, 7 May 2009 (UTC)

I just found this project and started picking some tasks to work on. I notice that you did all the duplicate Interwiki link ones, so I deleted that section from the page. Are there any others you completed? If so, deleting the section(s) would save time for the rest of us. Thanks! --Auntof6 (talk) 05:55, 25 May 2009 (UTC)

auto

Can I ask what Category:WPBannerMeta templates using auto param is for? Are you planning something with these? — Martin (MSGJ · talk) 13:06, 5 June 2009 (UTC)

Yes, I was going through them looking for banners that weren't actually using the auto param (by checking that the auto category didn't exist & there weren't any members in the category) and then removing that option from those banners. I've got as far as WikiProject Algeria but have since been distracted by other wiki things, so haven't finished it off. -- WOSlinker (talk) 17:05, 5 June 2009 (UTC)
Some banners have the following in them:
|AUTO_ASSESS =
  |auto={}
from when there used to be a AUTO_ASSESS parameter, so they initially didn't do auto assement but then when the wpbannermeta params were changed, they did. -- WOSlinker (talk) 07:50, 6 June 2009 (UTC)
Checked as far as WikiProject Europe now. -- WOSlinker (talk) 08:22, 6 June 2009 (UTC)

Oh. That's really bad. How can such a transition have happened? We could maybe fix it temporarily by turning it off if AUTO_ASSESS is passed but not "yes". — Martin (MSGJ · talk) 08:37, 6 June 2009 (UTC)

There's only a few like that. There are also some ones with AUTO_ASSESS=yes but the category doesn't exist and there are no items in the cateogry. So I'm removing them as well. -- WOSlinker (talk) 08:40, 6 June 2009 (UTC)
Checked as far as WikiProject Russia now. -- WOSlinker (talk) 09:23, 6 June 2009 (UTC)

User Arab

I saw your edit to Template:User Arab using userbox. I wondered about the categories. I used . You changed that to >{{#ifeq:{{lc:{}}}|no||}}. What does the addition do? Debresser (talk) 22:02, 6 June 2009 (UTC)

It's just if there is ever a need to suppress the category then would do it. It's probably not really necessary in this case as the code that was there would work. I've just been adding it as I've been converting user templates over to use userbox. You can remove it if you want. <signature missing because you forgot the closing nowiki tag>
I understand. Thank you. It doesn't bother me, since it has a function. It might even be usefull for users who do not want their name to show up in a category. Debresser (talk) 23:24, 6 June 2009 (UTC)
