Priskin
editAfter this season and that major signing, you do know that I will default to "strong oppose" on anything related to Championship football list-wise, don't you?! The Rambling Man (talk) 15:45, 9 May 2011 (UTC)
- Suffice to say that the aforementioned Hungarian is more of a Brendan Rodgers player than a Paul Jewell one. And I'm guessing that a mention of this season won't help my cause? —WFC— 15:48, 9 May 2011 (UTC)
- Clearly, that now guarantees a quick fail. Good luck Hornet-boy...! The Rambling Man (talk) 15:52, 9 May 2011 (UTC)
- Tamas is genuinely top-class in a 4-5-1 with quality wingers and a super-fit attacking midfielder in behind him. But I'm worried about the possibility of Graham being sold, and Priskin being loaned in as his replacement in the same system. Knowing the way this club works, it could happen. —WFC— 16:09, 9 May 2011 (UTC)
- Hmm. Well, we've now got three months to speculate how incredibly fascinating next season will be. And how quickly the Budgies will get relegated...! The Rambling Man (talk) 16:11, 9 May 2011 (UTC)
- Hopefully at least 37 games. If they do a Derby (or a Watford), we will most likely be advertising for a new manager. —WFC— 16:18, 9 May 2011 (UTC)
- Apparently Paul Lambert is God so I don't think there's an issue there. However, if the Budgies send out a distress signal (e.g. Gunny) then Malky's next on the menu...! The Rambling Man (talk) 16:21, 9 May 2011 (UTC)

- If Watford are interested in re-signing former players, is there any chance you could take back Clarke Carlisle, please? BigDom 16:23, 9 May 2011 (UTC)
- Can't see that happening. We have six players over the age of 24, one of whom is likely to be sold in the summer. Three of the other five can play centre back. —WFC— 16:30, 9 May 2011 (UTC)
- About time we opened the "WFC Lost and Found" counter at Vicarage Road. The Rambling Man (talk) 16:32, 9 May 2011 (UTC)

Thanks for starting this page. You can see I have added to it some intro/context, and some individual sections on alternative notability. I'm not sure how much consensus there is for some of what I'm suggesting, although I think it's reasonable! I have to say I can't really see the rationale of having a cut-off of appearances for determining what's notable (in any case I would like to see other factors coming into the decision). If such a limit is to be decided on, there will need to be some clear evidence as to why a player with more than X apps is presumed to meet GNG, and why a player with X or less will not. But anyway that's part of the discussion, and hopefully between us (and others) we can pull something together. I think it makes sense for this article to cover not just what criteria can determine player notability, but also what sources are regarded as reasonable for GNG. Regards. editHi, I just read this old thread concerning the issue of denoting divisions in lists of seasons. I've also taken a look at the List of Watford F.C. seasons and I think it looks great. I've been working on similar lists for Dinamo Zagreb and Hajduk Split and I've compiled what I thought was a promising list for Red Star Belgrade in my sandbox (my objective is to make best possible lists for the Yugoslav Big Four - meaning these three plus FK Partizan). So in nutshell I'd like some pointers on how to proceed from here and how do I make these lists look more similar to Watford's. You also mentioned in that thread that the sortable template could be made to work with country-specific markings, like inputting "SCO" which yields automatic links to the Scottish Cup and Scottish League Cup. Can this be made to function with other countries as well like YUG, CRO, SRB? Thanks. Timbouctou (talk) 09:52, 25 May 2011 (UTC)
- I'll have a look at the Dinamo Zagreb list over the next few days (not today though), and give some feedback/technical help if needed. As for the template, in theory it should work for *most* countries, although it was more of an afterthought, as I've yet to work on a non-English list. I never got around to things like being able to include footnotes in specific columns etc, but it looks like a good idea, so I'll probably do that. —WFC— 14:48, 25 May 2011 (UTC)
- Great. Take your time, it's no rush. Thanks again. Timbouctou (talk) 15:14, 25 May 2011 (UTC)
- I promise I will get onto this. I've been a lot busier this week than I had anticipated! —WFC— 09:26, 2 June 2011 (UTC)
- It's alright :) Looking forward to it. Timbouctou (talk) 14:28, 3 June 2011 (UTC)

Good afternoon. I was wondering if you could expand the football section of this fellow's article? I only have Joyce available to me so it's looking a bit basic at the moment. I created it on behalf of another user who wishes to write about his cricket career so there is a DYK nomination in it if you can help. Argyle 4 Lifetalk 14:46, 26 May 2011 (UTC)
- Done what I can with the Who's Who. I could probably flesh it out a bit more in future, when I have my other Watford books handy. —WFC— 16:53, 26 May 2011 (UTC)
- Good stuff. I learnt about a new player today, always nice. I've nominated it at DYK. Argyle 4 Lifetalk 20:16, 26 May 2011 (UTC)

DYK for Glossary of association football terms
editOn 29 May 2011, Did you know? was updated with a fact from the article Glossary of association football terms, which you created or substantially expanded. The fact was ... that a football team's travelling army of supporters is often referred to as its 12th man? You are welcome to check how many hits the article got while on the front page (here's how, quick check) and add it to DYKSTATS if it got over 5,000. If you know of another interesting fact from a recently created article, then please suggest it on the Did you know? talk page. |

WikiCup 2011 May newsletter
editWe're half way through round 3 of the 2011 WikiCup. There are currently 32 remaining in the competition, but only 16 will progress to our penultimate round. Casliber (submissions), of pool D, is our overall leader with nearly 200 points, while pools A, B and C are led by Racepacket (submissions), Hurricanehink (submissions) and Canada Hky (submissions) respectively. The score required to reach the next round is 35, though this will no doubt go up significantly as the round progresses. We have a good number of high scorers, but also a considerable number who are yet to score. Please remember to submit content soon after it is promoted, so that the judges are able to review entries. Also, an important note concerning nominations at featured article candidates: if you are nominating content for which you intend to claim WikiCup points, please make this clear in the nomination statement so that the FAC director and his delegates are aware of the fact.
A running total of claims can be seen here. If you are concerned that your nomination will not receive the necessary reviews, and you hope to get it promoted before the end of the round, please list it on Wikipedia:WikiCup/Reviews. However, please remember to continue to offer reviews at GAC, FAC and all the other pages that require them to prevent any backlogs which could otherwise be caused by the Cup. As ever, questions are welcome on Wikipedia talk:WikiCup and the judges are reachable on their talk pages, or by email. Good luck! If you wish to start receiving or stop receiving this newsletter, please feel free to add or remove yourself from Wikipedia:WikiCup/Newsletter/Send. J Milburn and The ed17 23:39, 31 May 2011 (UTC)

editHello. Must admit I'm not comfortable with his history, but as long as he keeps his hands where they belong in the future, I'll live with it. Not entirely comfortable with Blues giving a 3-year deal to a 31-year-old, for that matter, but suppose if everyone else is going in the firesale we're not having, beggars can't be choosers... cheers, Struway2 (talk) 13:46, 10 June 2011 (UTC)
FL Director?
editI think you would serve well as a TFL director. Interest? TCO (talk) 14:22, 11 June 2011 (UTC)
- At the moment a TFL director's only job to pick one of many pre-prepared lists, once a week, and paste it into the queue. There are a few other things to do, but those can be done by anyone (including me). I appreciate the suggestion, but there's no need for an extra one at this point in time. If FLC is ever short of people, I imagine they would appoint a fourth person to do all list-related things, and in that case, I think there would be people better suited to do FLC closures than me. —WFC— 17:26, 11 June 2011 (UTC)
- My bad, I really meant FLC. I think they should keep TFL and FLC together in terms of the people. I can't think of who is more imvolved in that stuff than you. Maybe RexxS. TCO (talk) 17:34, 11 June 2011 (UTC)
- I don't actually do that many FLC reviews. I aim to review at least three times as many as I nominate, and to chip in when things are particularly busy, but I wouldn't go as far as calling myself "active". I won't hide that one day I might be interested. But at the moment I don't think there's a real need for more people, I know that I'm liable to vanishing for weeks at a time, and in any case I think there are calmer, more active and more experienced heads around. Very grateful that you think so highly of me though. Regards, —WFC— 17:40, 11 June 2011 (UTC)
- I probably do too many reviews to be a director. Let's see how it goes. You'd get my vote any day. The Rambling Man (talk) 14:54, 12 June 2011 (UTC)

editAny way I can contact you ex-Wiki? Not that there's anything to hide here but I wanted to have a quick dialogue about TFL and all that. (Not Transport For London in this case...). The Rambling Man (talk) 14:58, 12 June 2011 (UTC)
- Sorry mate. I had email enabled for a short time, but quickly reverted to a policy of only using email if I need to directly contact someone at the foundation (which I have only found the need to do once thus far, to Jimbo). It works well for me: this way I only deal with Wikipedia when I consciously log into the site. If I were to make exceptions, I'd either be contactable by people that I'd prefer to limit my interaction with to Wikipedia, be contactable when I'm going out of my way to take a wikibreak, or be open to accusations of attempting to incluence Wikipedia off-site. I hope you understand. Regards, —WFC— 15:49, 12 June 2011 (UTC)
