Image copyright problem with Image:Burlington High School.jpg
editThank you for uploading Image:Burlington High School.jpg. However, it currently is missing information on its copyright status. Wikipedia takes copyright very seriously. It may be deleted soon, unless we can determine the license and the source of the image. If you know this information, then you can add a copyright tag to the image description page.
If you have any questions, please feel free to ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thanks again for your cooperation. NOTE: once you correct this, please remove the tag from the image's page. STBotI (talk) 01:28, 7 January 2008 (UTC)
Designer and Rate entries
editI've noticed you placing entires under "Designer" and "Rate" in firearms articles. Designer is intended for a person, not a company. Companies are to be listed under Manufacturer. Rate is intended for cyclic rate of fire or to detail Please refrain from these type of edits on manual and semi-automatic firearms. I'm going in to clarify these on the infobox template page, however I do understand they are confusing. Effective rate of fire can be included in the text, if you desire, but it must meet a high standard of sourcing and verification. It's HIGHLY subjective. --Asams10 (talk) 02:53, 7 January 2008 (UTC)
- Alright, thanks for the information. I'll make sure to make note of this for future reference.
Orphaned non-free media (File:ScreenShotofRedDragon.jpg)
editThanks for uploading File:ScreenShotofRedDragon.jpg. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).
If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BJBot (talk) 05:15, 11 March 2009 (UTC)
Welcome to Wikipedia. It might not have been your intention, but your recent edit removed content from Talk:Thomas Jefferson. When removing text, please specify a reason in the edit summary and discuss edits that are likely to be controversial on the article's talk page. If this was a mistake, don't worry; the text has been restored, as you can see from the page history. Take a look at the welcome page to learn more about contributing to this encyclopedia, and if you would like to experiment, please use the sandbox. Thank you. Fair use on userpages
editI removed the image File:Chicago Bears helmet rightface.png from your userpage because it is marked as a fair use image. As such, it can only be used on Wikipedia under terms of WP:NFCC. In that policy at #9, it clearly notes that fair use images may only be used in articles. Your userpage is not such an article. You reverted my removal, and I've once again removed the helmet image. Now that you are aware of the policy, intentionally violating it would constitute vandalism. Please do not re-instate that image onto your userpage or place any other fair use images on y our userpage. Thank you, --Hammersoft (talk) 17:52, 21 May 2009 (UTC)
Hey there Watersoftheoasis, thank you for your contributions! I am a bot alerting you that Non-free files are not allowed in the user or talk-space. I removed some images that I found on User:Watersoftheoasis. In the future, please refrain from adding fair-use images to your user-space drafts or your talk page. See a log of images removed today here, shutoff the bot here and report errors here. Thank you, -- DASHBot (talk) 04:43, 3 February 2010 (UTC)
- I have reverted your shut off of the bot, and also re-removed the non-free image File:Chicago Bears helmet rightface.png from your userpage. This is not the first time this image has been removed from your userpage [1][2]. The policy on such use is very clear, and you've been directed to it before via edit summaries twice, and by DashBot above. By WP:NFCC #9, you may not display non-free images on your userpage. File:Chicago Bears helmet rightface.png is clearly marked as being copyrighted and non-free. If there is something you are not understanding about this policy, ask. Simply reverting these removals and putting such images back on your userpage in violation of policy will result in a block of your editing privileges. Please stop. --Hammersoft (talk) 17:08, 3 February 2010 (UTC)
Warriors
editI see you've doing a bit of editing on Warriors-related articles. If you happen to be interested, you can join WikiProject Warriors. Brambleclawx 19:05, 22 May 2010 (UTC)
- Hmm... I'll consider it. I haven't been a part of a wikiproject before. Thanks for the invite. ^^ Watersoftheoasis (talk) 19:15, 22 May 2010 (UTC)
- No problem; I'm always on the look out for more recruits! Brambleclawx 19:16, 22 May 2010 (UTC)
- Hey, just to check, my deletion of the italicized "Original" in original series was correct, wasn't it? Watersoftheoasis (talk) 19:19, 22 May 2010 (UTC)
- Yeah. Original series is just a name most of the warriors community uses to make clear that they mean the first story arc, as opposed to the whole series. Brambleclawx 19:21, 22 May 2010 (UTC)
- Alright, well when I get around to it, I'll see that the italics are cleared out of all the articles. Thanks. Watersoftheoasis (talk) 19:22, 22 May 2010 (UTC)
- OK. thanks, Brambleclawx 19:26, 22 May 2010 (UTC)

Don't be a jerk - which includes 'posting stuff like this'. DS (talk) 13:51, 27 May 2010 (UTC)
How is this being a jerk at all? Watersoftheoasis (talk) 14:36, 27 May 2010 (UTC)
- There are various elements of that remark that aren't appropriate. Suggesting you're going to establish chaos and insure domestic violence is bad taste, but the part that really puts it over the line is the reference to "Wiki Nazis". Surely you realize making comparisons with the Nazis is not OK, even as a joke. I think that's essentially what Dragonfly was getting at. Heimstern Läufer (talk) 01:18, 28 May 2010 (UTC)
- I love how people can't take any sort of joke. Wiki nazi is a common internet term. Besides, considering how often people from this IP address vandalize things, the editted preamble was fitting. Watersoftheoasis (talk) 12:19, 28 May 2010 (UTC)
Edit justification
editI deliberated saying anything at all about you entirely reverting dozens of my edits in Dungeons & Dragons Online, [3] but it seems possible you will be with Wikipedia for some time, and there is advice a professional writer and editor such as myself often gives professionally.
Complicated language is not "more formal", and is often a disservice to readers. So the original text read:
- "...was developed by Turbine, Inc. over the course of approximately two years. The initial prototyping and concepting..."
1) "Concepting" is not a word in Webster's 3rd. 2) Units of measure are, by nature, inexact. It would be surprising if development happened in exactly two years, so using "approximately" adds nothing. 3) "Over the course" is a cliche. It adds nothing to the meaning. 4) The phrase "initial prototyping" -- speaking as someone who has worked on major software projects -- has no meaning in the software development lifecycle. I've never heard "prototype" applied to projects that I worked on.
Chances are the writer only had a vague idea how long it took, and what was done -- as far as I can determine, they're just blowing smoke. As professional editor I would change the language to something akin to:
- "...was developed by Turbine over two years. The initial prototype and concept..."
A matter of opinion? Well, not so much. In companies where I've worked with several other editors, the work is handed back and forth. It doesn't make much difference who does it, and it's very rare there's strong disagreement between editors.
It may also help to understand that the formal language of an encyclopedia is not simply a transcription of the spoken word. Nor is formal language a mimic of verbose marketing language on DDO official sites.
Finally, you reverted many changes that are contrary to the Wikipedia Manual of Style. I won't go into them, because essentially everything I changed was according to the Manual of Style. (Changing "2" --> "two", replacing American-style dates in an American product, removing trademark symbols, etc.)
I hope some of this is of use to you. I wish someone had told me in High School. I would have gotten better grades in college. Cheers, Alpha Ralpha Boulevard (talk) 18:46, 5 June 2010 (UTC)
