Regarding a recent edit that appears to be from your IP [1], I would like to clarify that user pages are not part of the encyclopedia. They exist only to facilitate communication between members. Some users choose to write their user pages in a manner that resembles an encyclopedia article, but even so, user pages should never be linked from the main namespace. Apologies. I think I blew it when I created "Webbric" ( should perhaps have been Richard_Webb_(duh!)  :-)

As a Newbie (in wikipedia) - My aim of making notes in this location [User:Webbic] was to encourage/ show /enable others how easy it can be to edit/add a little content....

After which, these (sections) can then be cut/moved to the correct, respective locations. ( eg. Church Stretton, Webb (Family), Maxwell (Family) etc., ....) - ie. I was using the location as a "scratch pad" for a group of people - "potential" Wikipedians - any advice appreciated. Webbric 21:57, 24 December 2006 (UTC)

Next: As far as external links go. I have been supporting DMOZ.org since 1998-99 (I think) - Anyway, I'm adding xrefs UP to relevant wiki sections as best I can (by adding to my internal dB tables).

When I discover domain(s) that are a multi-domain, multi-xreferencing, self-referencing, ad-sites with RSS blogs atached - sometimes monkying as virtual domains (by IP block), - is it policy to remove these Google/Yahoo wannbes, and leave a message (with) - for example: some whois data ?

You are free to do whatever you want with your own user page. I myself often start new articles on user subpages before moving them into the encyclopedia proper. Ah Ha ! Thus (eg. for a temporary working page) I should create "Richard Webb (wikipedian)" (example) Rather than the UserWebbric /namespace/ ?

My point is that, unless you fulfill the notability criteria, you should not have an article or mention in the main namespace at all. It's certainly not unheardof - my friend does, but if you just wish to profile yourself as an individual contributor to Wikipedia, it should be done on your user page. Ask yourself if mention of Wikipedia or one of its users would be appropriate on a completely different encyclopedia, if so, then the user is probably notable enough to deserve mention here. I'm trying to get the hang of the wiki definitions, controls and coding hierarchy. Please be patient :-)

As I stated earlier, I would like to add as many "UP to Wikipedia" links as possible (by key words, phrases, locations, surnames, maps). - On my 100+ personal pages.

Thus I will have my own normalized data dictionary (mySQL & php) converted from my existing tables (.dbf's) that have been running since the early 1980's. Local edit controls would be by trusted individuals / groups. (In my own selfish manner) I hope to encourage new responsible Wikipedians

I've been (lightly) researching Genealogy GEDCOM and derivatives since the late 1980's, and (since 1999) have noted the exponential volumes of generated webpage nonsense that appear in search engine results.

For my first stab at serious edits I will be adding "Families of" to Church_Stretton (my Original Home) in the hope that fresh content will be added by knowlegeable, ('tho perhaps inexperienced), community-minded people or ex-residents.

My (external) page for this village was created in 1996 and now needs a clean-up, (or be deleted) ... I have many emails to send out and it would be easier for people to update, add pictures etc., to a shared Church_Stretton resource than reply just to me :-).

Thanks - I'm still new (unsure of protocols:) at editing. This feedback is helpful. I'm busy with my own dB website with esp. interest in the career pages / fraudsters et.al. .... hence the edit.

I do not claim to be related to you but there is a coincidence concerning Sidney Webb the dentist. One of my paternal great uncles coincidentally was named Sidney Joseph Webb (1913-1976), a heating engineer and plumbing teacher, who latterly lived in Church Stretton at Myndcroft, Burway Road, and was a patient of your forebear.Cloptonson (talk) 19:56, 28 April 2021 (UTC)
