Speedy deletion of Meniskus

edit

A tag has been placed on Meniskus requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a band, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is notable: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not indicate the subject's importance or significance may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable, as well as our subject-specific notability guideline for musical topics.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the article's talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Hi. Thanks for the compliments :-) The problem with the article is that it does not assert the notability well enough and notability is the criteria a band deserves its article. You can find a good reading for the beginning at WP:MUSIC, the criteria are listed there. Two study albums is good but you only provide one website apart from the official one as the reference. For now, I will copy the article to your userpage so you can work on it and repost it when you think it's ready. Regards. --Tone 19:16, 13 February 2008 (UTC)Reply

-That's great. Thanks very much! I'll look into that and work on getting things up to speed. I appreciate you taking the time to help me with my first contribution!

Music

edit

The music of Meniskus has been variously described in the press as "acoustic electronica," "latin trance rock," and "indie fusion."[1]. The band refers to its own style as "rock nouveau." The band first garnered the national spotlight when they were chosen to perform at the first annual Mile High Music Festival, joining performers including Tom Petty, The Dave Matthews Band, The Roots, and Steve Winwood.

Following the exposure brought by Mile High Music Fest, Meniskus was approached by US Democratic Presidential candidate Barack Obama's campaign. They went on to perform at several high profile events in support of the candidate, including Rock the Vote at the Democratic National Convention; Barack Rocks II at The Fox Theatre; and the October 1st, 2008 rally at The University of Colorado's Ferrand Field which set attendance records for the venue[2].

Other notable live appearances include Tatanka Music and Arts Festival 2008; The Denver Center for the Performing Arts ; Parkside Lounge in New York City; and Chateau de la Roq in Belgium.

Meniskus has released two full-length studio albums: 2005's "The Wall of Sound" which was well-received but criticized for its production quality and relative lack of vocal tracks, and 2007's "Foreign Beyond." which took the band in a decidedly more rock direction, departing from the latin roots of the debut album. "Foreign Beyond" was produced at Coupe Studios (The Fray, DeVotchKa, Rose Hill Drive, Flobots). In June 2010, the group released LIVE at The Walnut Room which was hailed by critics as capturing the live energy of the band. <ref name="grateful web">
