Longer shots

Thanks so much for your help! Is there anything in old newspapers available online for Mildred Sledge (Draft:Mildred Sledge). I'm not even sure it isn't a pseudonym but I thought I saw somewhere she was a secretary..

The other person I'm curious about is Juanita Pitts a.k.a. Junaita Pitter Patter Pitts. If there's some coverage I will start a draft on her otherwise I thInk she can be smerged into It Happened in Harlem, an extant film in which she performs.

Draft:George Wiltshire and Draft:Edward Thompson (actor) would also benefit from some sprucing but both meet notability criteria as I understand them and have seen them adjudicated. FloridaArmy (talk) 20:28, 21 November 2020 (UTC)

FloridaArmy (talk) 20:25, 21 November 2020 (UTC)

@FloridaArmy: From a very quick glance, I see some stuff on Edward Thompson but not much for Juanita Pitts in old newspapers. Thanks for bringing them up - It might take a bit more to find stuff on the women if they were written about under their husband's name ("Mrs. Husband's First and Last Name", which seemed to be pretty common pre-WWII). I'll have a deeper look on all of them soon, but it might be a few days - I'm moving this week so I'm a bit busier than usual! - Whisperjanes (talk) 08:31, 22 November 2020 (UTC)
Oh my goodness!!! Good luck with your move. I hope you have lots of help and it goes smoothly. FloridaArmy (talk) 10:32, 22 November 2020 (UTC)
Thanks! I'm hoping it does go smoothly. It's coming up soon, so it's just been a lot of packing so far. - Whisperjanes (talk) 17:47, 25 November 2020 (UTC)
@FloridaArmy: Woof. I was gone a long time. Moving turned into holidays... turned into the new year... turned into new work... Haha, well, I think I’m finally back, and I had some time to do some research.
Here’s what I’ve found (although it looks like some of your articles have already made it into main space, yay!):
Mildred Sledge I couldn't find much on in historical newspapers. But it seems she's in mainspace now, so I'm glad you were able to put that together :)
Juanita Pitts was a tricky one to research. I think there is enough out there out there, so I started Draft:Juanita Pitts - I didn't format the citations and left it pretty rough from just my notes, because I don't have access to my Wiki Library Card at the moment. But the consensus I saw in the sources I found about her was... She isn’t really written about. Contemporary tap dancers have pointed to her saying she was an important tap dancer, but in the same breath they’re saying she isn't well known now, and she wasn’t necessarily famous during her life, much like other female black tapsters of that time. I found a lot of passing/trivial mentions about her, a few mentions of contemporary performances making tributes to her, but books were the only sources I saw that gave more than a passing mention. So, I think in modern times, she is notable but obscure.
Out of sources I can’t find/access about Pitts, there’s apparently at least one Temple University dissertation about female tap dancers that has info on Juanita Pitts (mentioned here) and an unpublished paper about her life specifically ("Juanita Pitts: Race, Gender and the Female Hoofer") that was presented at the American Dance Festival. (Mentioned here). Also, I left out that she was called "Pitter Patter" Pitts, because I couldn't find mentions of that except in It Happened in Harlem (maybe that was the stage name she used specifically for the film?).
I also found stuff on Edward Thompson, but I'll go ahead and add those sources directly to that draft.
Also, happy belated holidays, and happy belated new year! I hope you're doing well and had a good holiday season :) - Whisperjanes (talk) 19:32, 22 January 2021 (UTC)
Awesome! Thank you so much. Draft:Alfred N. Sack, Draft:Francis L. Wing, and Draft:As the World Rolls On are the latest ones I'm being given grief. The first and third I think a pretty interesting. But enjoy your 2021, have fun, relax, and take care of you first and foremost. The days are getting longer and brighter now. Spring will be here before you know it. Thabks again. Party on. FloridaArmy (talk) 20:05, 22 January 2021 (UTC)

Congrats on your new job/ work. I hope it's gratifying or at least pays pretty well. FloridaArmy (talk) 20:07, 22 January 2021 (UTC)

Real James Bond

You have contacted me regarding a post on the real inspiration to James Bond. All I can do is say that the source is authentic. I created the website and there is a video there explaining first hand Jack's story.

It is absolutely impossible for him to have falsified his story. In addition I have a mountain of supporting information to support his story and his integrity.

I invite you to explore. Also you are editing a page that is made of opinions. It is as if you are not accepting my opinion. Frankly, Ian specifically described James "Jack" Turner Stephens, Jr. however the other aspects of the article are nothing more than journalists and other giving their opinions as to who the real inspiration is. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Chuckxxx (talkcontribs) 01:43, 8 December 2020 (UTC)

Hello. I noticed that you created Draft:Elizabeth Cleveland Miller. Yesterday I saw that another user created an article on Miller at Elizabeth Miller (author). If so, put political position first and fact second may not be good. Geeky1127 (talk) 05:00, 8 June 2021 (UTC)

About the article "Alex J Lasry"

@Whisperjanes since there still hasn't been another ordinary editer who disagree with me on content and you just say some are sentences / sources fail verification or are editorialized, in dorer to show those truth first i will redo first and then call you to edit where you think fail verification or are editorialized — Preceding unsigned comment added by Geeky1127 (talkcontribs) 05:06, 8 June 2021 (UTC)

Thank you for replying, but i want to know hw those rules you put up with are applied in real editing.

You can begin with "Alex Lasry" article first, edit it to obey the rules while leave the contents that are coherent with the rule, in that edit please also give me expllaination on which part breaks which rule and why your verson follows the rule, I'd like to learn from you as a new wikipedia editor.

I've left a reply and pinged you on the article's talk page. - Whisperjanes (talk) 06:29, 8 June 2021 (UTC)

as to article "alex lasry"

I think the scandals and political positions are either from credible source or directly from his own campaign video. And I just fully use the sentences of original sources as much as possible. So I think I follows the rules, If you think it isn't, instead of just deleting please change into what you think obeys the rule.

@Geeky1127: That's not how WP:BLP issues work - if there is problematic material on Wikipedia on a biography of a living person, it should be deleted, discussed and fixed on the talk page, before adding it back to the article. It's not meant to stay in the article until someone has enough time to fix errors - things should be accuate and neutral if they're going to be included in an encyclopedia article. I'm writing something now on the talk page to address some of this. - Whisperjanes (talk) 01:58, 9 June 2021 (UTC)

Draft:Bankroll Freddie

Hi,

I saw you did a load of work to Draft:Bankroll Freddie and added comments for reviewers - so did you not mean to submit it?

Regards KylieTastic (talk) 17:55, 29 July 2021 (UTC)

@KylieTastic: I wasn't sure if I should submit, since it's so close to when it was last rejected (it's only been about a day since it was rejected 3 times in a row), so I was waiting for more time to pass, honestly. But with your comment, I've decided to go ahead and bite the bullet :) It's submitted now. - Whisperjanes (talk) 19:18, 29 July 2021 (UTC)
I didn't actually do a full review but it was clearly a decent attempt at showing notability so definitely worth a punt and 1000% more decent than the initial submit I reviewed. With historical politicians I will do the digging and expand there minimal submits, but modern bios aren't my thing so thanks for the effort regardless if it's an accept or decline. Good effort should always be appreciated. The only thing I would say form a quick look is the expanded discography certainly makes them look possible more notable, but the unsourced items could do with a source. Cheers KylieTastic (talk) 19:31, 29 July 2021 (UTC)
@KylieTastic: Thanks! It's always nice to be reminded that effort is appreciated, even if it doesn't make it to mainspace. And I'll add those sources to the discography now. - Whisperjanes (talk) 20:08, 29 July 2021 (UTC)
and effort is not also appreciated but also gets results :) KylieTastic (talk) 22:28, 30 July 2021 (UTC)

Hello,

This is Lizbet1 (Paola Curcio-Kleinman) - I am the head of Public Relations for the NYU School of Professional Studies and have been trying to fix gross in accuracies on the NYU School of Professional Studies Wikipedia page. There are a large number of department and degree programs that no longer exist, names of departments that are incorrect and blatant mistakes about the audience the School is now serving. It seems that I have made the edit and they have all been reverted back. I am not being paid to make these edits. The information is totally incorrect and I would be remiss in my duties to allow it to remain that way. In addition, the errors in current degrees and programs offered could be a problem in our academic standing with the state. Is there something else I need to do to make these edits? Lizbet1 (talk) 15:52, 14 August 2021 (UTC)

Mae Martin

Yes, I think that's probably a better way to do things - given that "its" keeps on being mis-read. I'm not entirely sure about there being two schools in the sentence, but I can't think of a better way to do it. So, thanks - much appreciated. Blue Square Thing (talk) 18:03, 16 August 2021 (UTC)

@Blue Square Thing: Oh good, I'm glad it helped. Yeah, writing "school" twice in a sentence wouldn't be my first pick either, but apparently it was confusing enough for a few readers/editors. And thanks for the edits you've done so far on the article :) - Whisperjanes (talk) 17:05, 17 August 2021 (UTC)

Emma Jane Wilson

Thanks for all your help Whisperjanes. If you get a chance and have the inclination, could you see what a newspaper search turns up for Emma J. Wilson / Emma Jane Wilson / E. J. Wilson of Mayesville, South Carolina (Draft:Mayesville Industrial and Educational Institute)? FloridaArmy (talk) 13:09, 23 August 2021 (UTC)

@FloridaArmy: Ohhh she seems very interesting. I'm taking a look now and I'm finding a few things - it might just take me a few days to add them all to the article :) - Whisperjanes (talk) 01:43, 25 August 2021 (UTC)
Awesome. She seems like a force of nature. And quite a few photos of her and the school. I wonder why she isn't better known? I also wonder whybshe stsrted her own school??? Goodwill Parochial School and I think others as well were innthe area. Glad you also found her story interesting. FloridaArmy (talk) 03:34, 25 August 2021 (UTC)
Yes, she was quite the leader. She seemed to single-handedly keep the school afloat, running around the country and raising funds. At least one source I saw said she traveled to a different state just to learn brick-making (or brick-laying?), because she wanted to know how to better teach the boys at her school.
I wonder if she shouldn't have a separate article? I'm not sure how much to include about her in the school's article; it seemed like she did a lot of things outside of her official school-principal duties (although most of what she's known for is her work for the school), but it is harder to find info on what she did/her life outside of the school. - Whisperjanes (talk) 04:01, 25 August 2021 (UTC)
I would include as much as you can on her. When it is too much we can split her off innher own entry. It always makes me shake my head that I'm pushed to merge and told subjects aren't independly notaboe and when I work on a combined entry I'm told it isn't clear which subject it's about. Then there's the perennial the entry should be about their work and not the person and vis versa. Smh. Wouldn't be much of a school without her and I'm not sure how notable she'd be without the school? Chicken and egg stuff. Thanks for your efforts. I am enjoying reading more about her from what you've uncovered and I hope others will as well. I need to add back content I inckuded that was misguidedly removed.. Party on. FloridaArmy (talk) 14:43, 25 August 2021 (UTC)

Draft:Nancy Elizabeth Wallace

Was it you who was interested in female children's book authors? I haven't gotten far in investigating coverage or determining if she's notable, but I've enjoyed what I've read so far of her work. FloridaArmy (talk) 03:34, 25 August 2021 (UTC)

@FloridaArmy: Oh yes! I love children's book authors and illustrators. I'll definitely take a look at her - her cutout illustrations look very cute (and from a quick Gale Literature glance, it seems like she might have enough reviews to pass WP:AUTHOR). - Whisperjanes (talk) 03:51, 25 August 2021 (UTC)
Excellent. FloridaArmy (talk) 14:39, 25 August 2021 (UTC)

@Whisperjanes: Thank you for your pointer on disclosing COI for the Campaign Legal Center page! I am new to the Wikipedia community, and I am still learning a lot about the various forms and rules. My user page now says, "This user, in accordance with the Wikimedia Foundation's Terms of Use, discloses that they have been paid by CAMPAIGN LEGAL CENTER for their contributions to Wikipedia."

@Frida Fresca: You're welcome! It can be really tricky to learn the different policies and things to do when you're new to editing Wikipedia, so no one expects perfection from new editors. So far, you've been following the COI/paid guidelines pretty well, so thanks for taking the extra time to do all of that. And feel free to ask questions if you need any help :) - Whisperjanes (talk) 22:08, 2 November 2021 (UTC)

Thank you for creating Jane Breskin Zalben.

Delivered via the Page Curation tool, on behalf of the reviewer.

Whoisjohngalt (talk) 16:57, 17 November 2021 (UTC)

Hi Whoisjohngalt! Thanks for adding some categories and your help. I'm a bit confused by your suggestion, however, so I ask that you please check out WP:LDRHOW or WP:LDR.
Just to clarify: my citations are still there, just with named references being used instead, and the full references being moved to the bottom. If you look at the article (not in edit view), you'll see that the citations are still formatted normally. I tend to do this with articles I start because it's cleaner when editing the article later. Could you please revert your last two edits on the article, or let me know what you think? Thanks! - Whisperjanes (talk) 17:12, 17 November 2021 (UTC)
Sorry, I was not familiar to the citation style. All fixed now. Peace.Whoisjohngalt (talk) 17:26, 17 November 2021 (UTC)
@Whoisjohngalt: No worries! And thanks :) I wasn't familiar before either - I only started using it because another user suggested it to me to improve my articles, because they said it made the body of the article look cleaner. - Whisperjanes (talk) 18:02, 17 November 2021 (UTC)

ArbCom 2021 Elections voter message

Hello! Voting in the 2021 Arbitration Committee elections is now open until 23:59 (UTC) on Monday, 6 December 2021. All eligible users are allowed to vote. Users with alternate accounts may only vote once.

The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.

If you wish to participate in the 2021 election, please review the candidates and submit your choices on the voting page. If you no longer wish to receive these messages, you may add {{NoACEMM}} to your user talk page. MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 00:34, 23 November 2021 (UTC)

Regarding the Ryan Kavanaugh article

Hello, I've struck a lot of promotional/unsourced info from the article, improved the sourcing, and added maintenance tags. Some wording might still be improved to reflect a more neutral POV. Do you think it's appropriate to remove the {{Undisclosed paid}} tag now? Throast (talk | contribs) 15:35, 23 November 2021 (UTC)

@Throast: If you'd like to, feel free! And thanks for your edits.
Personally, I'd wait until some others are able to edit for more NPOV in the article, and give it a bit more time (for example, it seems like one editor is removing and adjusting more content at the moment), but it's completely up to you. Thanks, by the way, for reporting at ANI and sockpuppet investigations. I was just typing something out there myself :) - Whisperjanes (talk) 18:19, 23 November 2021 (UTC)
I actually agree that it's a good idea to leave it there a bit longer. At least until the situation with the COI editor has cooled down. Throast (talk | contribs) 18:24, 23 November 2021 (UTC)

Happy Winter Solstice!!!

I think of you whenever is see Nancy Elizabeth Wallace's (Draft:Nancy Elizabeth Wallace Leaves Leaves Leaves book at the library. I don't think we got that one to mainsapce yet? I hope all is well with you, bright, and warm. All the best. FloridaArmy (talk) 23:25, 21 December 2021 (UTC)

Thanks for the kind words, FloridaArmy :) I hope the winter is treating you well so far. I see you're active as ever with making articles, so thank you for all the work you've put in this year! I hope you're able to get some rest in the winter months (even if that rest still means taking time for the not-so-restful hobby of Wikipedia editing).
