Internet Radio

Hi, I followed your comment at AN/I and appreciated your explanations. You seem to be stuck on a particular comment about internet radio, and I thought I could suggest a few responses if something like that happens in the future.

• Refute it. "That's not true."
• Explain it. "In my experience, an internet radio station takes a lot of effort."
• Detail it. "For example I have to do this, and do that, and then do this..."
• Re-question. "I didn't think other people held that opinion. Why do you?"

If it's really bothering you, it might be best to get away from it for a few minutes to make sure you don't respond in an unconstructive way. Maybe you could imagine that another suggestion, which you do find obviously wrong, like "Internet radio is made of spaghetti". Ok, that's NOT true, but someone could say it. So that means people can say things which aren't true, or are only true in their experience. Maybe that's what happened here. It can be frustrating if someone tells you something about your own experience which seems to be denying it, but there are two paths out: a) realize that it's true for you but they might have had a different experience; b) realize they're just wrong.

For a little more background, Wikipedia also has editing policies relating to conflicts of interest, because editing in an area where you have personal experience can lead to many kinds of personal investments or even biases that make encyclopedia writing difficult. For example, I doubt you would have minded greatly if someone had said that "making diet soda is just some labwork and an assembly line", but then, you don't own a soda factory! What I mean is that you have to be careful when editing in areas of your own experience that you're not letting that expertise get in the way. Let me know if you have any other questions, please. Ocaasi, my sentiments exactly. Thanks for the words of encouragement. As noted on the main investigation page, I did get hung up on what AussieLegend said and handled it poorly. One of the struggles with Asperger Syndrome is handling social etiquette. We are constantly questioning it ourselves, and find that we can cruise it smooth for a long period, and then suddenly find ones self up against a brick wall. It's like working in something that your comfortable with, then finding yourself up against a job that you have no idea about, and I guess in my case, just totally getting stressed out. As noted, the timing of the events was just really bad. The three articles being proposed for deletion, and the comment in the Sydney discussion was too much, which led to me not knowing what to do. Sorry for the bad analogy, but I guess the best way I can describe this is that your family is sitting at a park having a picnic on a nice day with the kids, then turning around and suddenly finding three armour tanks behind you. Okay, so they haven't fired, but it's an experience that can be rather overwhelming. That's exactly how I felt and I freaked out. Whitewater111 (talk) 09:36, 11 December 2010 (UTC)

Sure, it happens. One thing on Wikipedia is that everything is public, really public. So something as sinister-'seeming' as those three related deletes could have simply been an editor looking in your contribution history and noticing similar articles with a similar (suspected) issue. Finally, for the stuff that really seems like Tanks at a Picnic, maybe it's best to go call someone who has launch codes (i.e. another editor you trust, or an administrator), because hitting the tanks with your wiffle bat can only make them mad. BTW, I like your picnic analogy. Also, minorly, the expression about overreacting is 'a mountain out of a mole hill', although I enjoyed 'mountain out of a mole heal', which also makes sense! Just in case you hadn't heard that before.

Good luck around here. It should be pretty enjoyable, and if it's not, enjoy a walk or something tasty instead, at least until the clouds clear. You can learn a lot from the interactions on Wiki and it could help your skills a lot; but please remember, online communication can be hard for everybody, since there is so little information provided and so much room for misinterpretation. If you're getting frustrated, it's probably not 'all' your fault, and it's ok to acknowledge others mess up too, or some situations might involve misunderstanding. Cheers... Removing of ANI discussion

I'm just wondering what the stand is with the dialogue in relation to my recent discussion on the ANI page. As far as I understand, it seems to be resolved, I want to move on and forget about it, yet it still seems to be listed. Just wondering if it could please be removed. Thanks

You are correct that the issue has been resolved. I do not think anyone will delete the discussion, however. It will stay up there for a while and then it will go into the public archives, as a record of the discussion. That's part of what Ocaasi meant by everything on wikipedia being really public. But yes, you should move on and not worry about it--you were very open and straightforward about everything and I do not think anyone will hold any of this against you. Mcoers, that's fine. I just wanted to voice my support, as wikipedia is supposed to be a neutral encyclopedia. I unfortunately recently had my own run ins with some agenda driven admins, which I won't go into here. I've pretty much removed myself from editing anymore articles, but would like to be here for moral support for some others. I see on the COI face that someone is interested to see some more neutral material on the Global Warming Page, which is good to see. Looks like you'll be able to get that one balanced out a bit. You have done the right thing by listing it at Deletion Review, showing your new sources, and declaring your interest. Other users will now give their opinions, and after a week and uninvolved admin will decide. I will temp-undelete the article so that people can look at it during the DRV. Incorrect External Link Notation in Mark Boerebach Article

I just wanted to draw attention to the article which discusses me as the subject. The last link under External Links notes "interview on 2prtv". 2prtv is the name of my youtube channel, and is not where the interview originates from.

It is actually a news item headlined from Australia's National Nine News. I would like to correct it, but feel my involvement in editing may breach conflict of interest issues. I was wondering if I could politely ask someone to please fix this.

It would be much appreciated, and may assist in the current AfD taking place on my article, as the interview may be mistaken by being done by an organisation that is too close to the subject. If it was an interview with 2prtv, this might be the case. As it is done by the Channel Nine Network, which is not related to my radio station, this should shed things in a different light. No problem! I don't really see any reason for it to be inserted as a reference anywhere, given that the article appears to be fairly well sourced otherwise. Is there a specific item in the article that the video could serve as a reference for that is not covered by another reference? Also, as a general rule, most YouTube videos do not make good references, so if it isn't vital to the article, I would prefer not to see it used. I would agree that the article seems to be well sourced, and also agree with the youtube issue. I'm still somewhat unsure how wikipedia judges the strength of sources. I seem to recall earlier on in the deletion discussion that SBS was a minor television network. As this news article comes from the Channel Nine Network (a major commercial television network in Australia), I just thought it would of assisted in supporting the article. Just wanted to let someone know that there is a knew link for my article. The documentary "Rainman goes to Rockwiz", which is about me (the subject of the article in question) has just won an award at the Honolulu film awards. In the list of 2011 Aloha Accolade Winners, my film has won the short film award. Again, as the article is about me, I'm not sure how to add this, as it will be a conflict of interest. Hi there and thanks for your contributions to Wikipedia! There are a couple of comments that I can think of concerning what you added. Firstly, I would wonder whether or not the complaints that you referenced occurred in great enough quantity to make it notable enough to include in the article. All companies face some complaints by customers, but not all of those complaints are frequent enough to really worry about. If that is the case with this company, it should be verified by very good sources. Secondly, phrases like "Users felt that Tripod didn't care" seem more like an opinion rather than a fact. If this is indeed the case, this also should be backed up by excellent sources as these things are sorts of things that are likely to be challenged. I hope that helps! Thanks Topher, yeah, I might remove that last sentence, I can see the opinion relavence to that. But I do remember a website call 100 best web hosts from many years ago. I've just found it back, I'm just trying to find the tripod section, but they don't seem to have a search feature on here, I have to do some digging. If my editions are not worthy enough for inclusion, maybe they could be summarised down to a sentence, but I thought it is definitely worthy of noting as they were many complaints at the time. We're sort of talking around 2000 - 2001'ish here, and we know how much the web has changed since then. So tracking these old complaints down may be a bit tricky. So Fresh and Now Compilations inconsistency of listings?

As a collector of compilations across the world, I often check out the Wikipedia Articles to the UK Now series, German's Bravo Hits, and in Australia, the Now and So Fresh series. I noticed some of the So Fresh Compilations have been deleted.

If I may politely point out two things - the inconsistancy in which some compilations series are listed. The Entire Now series from the UK has every CD in the set listed, yet they are many holes in the Australia So Fresh collection - This is just the Australian equivalent to the Now Series.

In relation to a Deletion review, I thought the following two points could be considered. Apparently one of the reasons why the page was deleted was because the compilation did not have a listing on allmusic.

When speaking of notability, a:) So fresh is one of the longest running compilation series in Australia, and with this particular volume, it is the sixth most selling compilation of 2011.
