Welcome to Wikipedia. It might not have been your intention, but you removed a speedy deletion tag from Ash Puriri, a page you have created yourself. If you believe the page should not be deleted, you may contest the deletion by clicking on the button that says: Contest this speedy deletion which appears inside the speedy deletion notice. This will allow you to make your case on the article's talk page. Administrators will consider your reasoning before deciding what to do with the page. Thank you. Arun Kumar SINGH (Talk) 12:58, 2 August 2015 (UTC)

Correction: This was a standard notice posted "FYI" and user AKS does not mean to imply that the User Whpq had created the page. Cheers, Arun Kumar SINGH (Talk) 13:01, 2 August 2015 (UTC)

Please check photo upload for me

Hi! You recently reviewed another photo I uploaded, and if you could, please check this one: [1] I'm certain I used the correct license, but I've never moved a photo from Flickr before, and want to make sure all of my ducks are in a row. Thanks! Juneau Mike (talk) 16:18, 2 August 2015 (UTC)

That should be okay per Wikipedia:File copyright tags. The {{cc-by-2.0}} license does not restrict commercial use nor does it restrict derivative works. Regards. -- Whpq (talk) 17:58, 2 August 2015 (UTC)

Usmansakhan

Hello whpq, sorry to disturbing you, to all of my uploads related to NRS-International; that all deleted, thanks for it, And thanks for remind me that getting information is allowed but copying sentences are not allowed on wikipedia, but here I also want to explain that why I upload the copy sentences over wikipedia.

As NRS-International is a humanitarian aid provider concern that’s why there is no changes required in the first upload of information that is also available on their public website. Although in future someone update that article but I am pretty sure that no sensible one will update incorrect information specially for these kind of concerns.

Kindly suggest me how I can get back my uploaded article back, as my article is speedy deleted during weekend. Waiting for your kind and prompt feedback. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Usmansakhan (talkcontribs) 05:27, 10 August 2015 (UTC)

Questions about your edits on my article

Thank you for assisting me with my first article, Deb Sofield.

What can I do to satisfy the "notability" question that you raised? This person is worthy, but what else can I do to prove that and remove your tag?

Also, I tried linking to another appropriate article, the Order of the Palmetto, which the person I wrote about received in 2008. As I understood orphan tag, I needed to add her name to that existing article appropriately, which I did, using an appropriate reference. My edits were removed by Yopie and labelled as advertising and promotional. Yopie has also tagged my Deb Sofield article in the same way.

I am at a loss as to what I can do to remove the tags and edit my article appropriately. Also, what is the protocol when someone adds a tag, I make any appropriate adjustments and then need to remove the tag. This all feels accusatory, but I realize everyone is trying to help.

Thank you for your guidance.YearginD (talk) 14:48, 14 August 2015 (UTC)

As this question involves more than one editor, and is all about the Deb Sofield article, the best place to discuss this would be at Talk:Deb Sofield. I will copy your message to the article talk page to initiate discussion, and let Yopie know about the discussion as the editor who placed additional tags. Regards. -- Whpq (talk) 15:45, 14 August 2015 (UTC)

Lesnar fair use

If I'm reading your message correctly, it says that the pictures will be deleted regardless if I give a reason or not? I'm confused. Because technically every pic can be explained with just text. (T23tran (talk) 23:44, 18 August 2015 (UTC))

The applicable guideline for fair use images ids Wikipedia:Non-free content, and in particular, the images must meet all the criteria from Wikipedia:Non-free content criteria. For, living people, free images could be made by somebody snapping a photo of them and so fair use images are almost never allowed. Your rationales all have "n/a" as the rationale for criteria 1. "n/a" is not an acceptable. You need to actually show how all the criteria are met to use the image. It's not just a case of slapping up a fair use template and sticking some vague text into the template. -- Whpq (talk) 04:44, 19 August 2015 (UTC)

Shade Sheist picture RESPONSE

Hello, I just want you to know that you have your message too early. Reason why is because I took this picture and posted it on Shade Sheist just today. I have never took this picture from anyone, I have tookin' this myself. How? I have went to youtube to check out a Shade Sheist music video. I took a picture, with my phone, of Shade Sheist and posted it on wikipidia. Why do you want to delete this picture when I bet you didn't even do any research. M.P. Regarding your recent MfD nominations

Resume like pages from accounts that have made no or close to no other edits can be easily speedy deleted per WP:G11, there's no need to bring them through MfD. Hope this helps! Brustopher (talk) 23:15, 10 September 2015 (UTC)

Sandbox Question

So, if my sandbox does get deleted, how can I use it again? I understand that you can submit it as a draft for a new page, but I often like to keep my practice projects, mainly because I like the way they look (lol). Is there a specific rule you can show me telling me that I can't use the sandbox for this purpose?

Speedy deletion nomination of User:DIAKITE LASSANA (vendredvd)

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on User:DIAKITE LASSANA (vendredvd), requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G11 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page seems to be unambiguous advertising which only promotes a company, product, group, service or person and would need to be fundamentally rewritten in order to become encyclopedic. Please read the guidelines on spam and Wikipedia:FAQ/Organizations for more information.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator. ~Oshwah~ (talk) (contribs) 06:46, 21 October 2015 (UTC)

Removed article

Whpq, thank you for the constructive input! This is my first post and I got it completely wrong! Will try and redo the article with your guidelines, because the current one has broken as well as irrelevant links, and generally is too thin for such an accomplished pianist. Please can you clarify two points for me:

a) The photo in question is the intellectual property of the artist himself, and he has released it for use in wikipedia without any restrictions on use for educational and non-profit purposes. I did not find an option to choose - which one would it be? And how do I change its status now - could not find a way?

b) I understand now that the article must be completely in my words and also how the references are meant to work in relation to what is written. Some information I have obtained directly from the artist and his wife. Is that permissible and how do I attribute it? Can I send it to you for approval once complete?

Jeff Dye headshot

Thank you for your note on my page. I am Jeff Dye's web developer and he asked me to upload that photo to his wikipedia page. How do we make this happen? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Xunglam (talkcontribs) 23:42, 4 November 2015 (UTC)

Non-free images can only be used if they meet the criteria listed at Wikipedia:Non-free content. For living people, criterion 1 (no free equivalent) is almost never met as one can expect that a free image could be made by somebody taking a photo of the person. In the particular case of Jeff Dye, we know for sure that criterion 1 is not met as we already have a free image of Jeff Dye, namely File:Jeff dye cropped.JPG.
The only way that the image you uploaded would be accepted would be if the image were released under an acceptable free license. In order to do that, you will need to donate the image to Wikipedia. See Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials. Regards. -- Whpq (talk) 12:39, 5 November 2015 (UTC)

hello! i worked on a page back in 2013, but didn't understand fully the citing and resources necessary to make it work for DREW FULK. i just re-made the page and saw it's up for "speedy deletion", but I had thought i did everything right this time by citing and sourcing everything.

you had deleted it back in 2013, so i wanted to see if you could look at this new version and help me sort whatever needs to be sorted to get it secure and where it needs to be.

thank you! alex — Preceding unsigned comment added by Alexploegsma (talkcontribs)

The article has been nominated for deletion as a recreation of an article deleted by discussion. If this is the same text and referencing that was there before, it may get deleted. If it is not, then you need to state that the article has been changed or improved from the deleted version, identifying how it has been improved. AS for what happened in 2013, I did not delete it. It was deleted by an administrator after a discussion in which I was a participant. The best way to ensure the article is kept would be to find substantial coverage about Fulk in reliable sources. Passing mentions, and album credits generally aren't going to do it. See notability for more information about inclusion criteria for an article on Wikipedia. -- Whpq (talk) 20:57, 25 January 2016 (UTC)

Sarisu

Hi, can you explain why you like to have a seperate Article on places called Sarisu in Azerbaijan. It is uncommon to have more than one disambiguation page for articles with the same name.Inwind (talk) 20:33, 9 March 2016 (UTC)

I did leave a reason in my ediut summary. Expanding on it, somebody searching for "Sarısu, Azerbaijan" is clearly looking for some place named "Sarisu" in "Azerbaijan", and not some place in Turkmenistan, Kazakhstan, Iran, or Turkey. The existence of this disambiguation page thus helps the reader find what he or she is looking for with a listing of possible articles on places with that name in Azerbaijan. Redirecting them to another page that includes quite a few other items, all of which are not what they are looking for is less helpful. Regards. -- Whpq (talk) 21:32, 9 March 2016 (UTC)
I have tidied up Sarisu, so that the entries for each country can be found easily. I am now putting back the redirect for the Azerbaijan article. Inwind (talk) 21:41, 9 March 2016 (UTC)
Why do you insist on removoing a perfectly useful disambiguation page? -- Whpq (talk) 22:02, 9 March 2016 (UTC)
The practical reason is: The user gets to the disambiguation page just by typing Sarisu without ,Azerbaijan
If there would be a separate disambiguation page for places in Azerbaijan, then it should be linked from Sarisu and it would become a double disambiguation WP:DDAB. In my view double disambiguation is only useful if there is a large number of places in one country. Inwind (talk) 06:43, 10 March 2016 (UTC)
With respect to your practical reason, I understand that one can get the disambiguation page for all Sarisu without typing ",Azerbaijan". However the fact that they landed at "Sarisu, Azerbaijan" means that they did indeed deliberately type it all, and thus likely meant to find a Sarisu in Azerbaijan. So the most helpful thing to do would be to leave the perfectly good disambiguation page there. So I will ask you to please revert your redirect. Regards. -- Whpq (talk) 17:34, 11 March 2016 (UTC)
I could agree with you for places in countries which have the format place name, state like the US, Canada and Australia. For all other countries I would follow WP:PLACEDAB like for example Neustadt. On very small issues like this one I do not mind personal preferences to prevail. Go ahead and keep the page if you like. Inwind (talk) 07:09, 12 March 2016 (UTC)
Thank you for agreeing to reinstate the DAB page. -- Whpq (talk) 14:00, 14 March 2016 (UTC)

Recently I have received a lot of copyright notices over the files that I have uploaded to wikipedia from you. Most of these Images can be used for educational purposes without any prior consent or permission. Since wikipedia falls under the educational websites category, no entity will sue the wikipedia website from using these pictures or media files. This is partially because of the present IT act prevailing in India. Though most of the sites, like www.christuniversity.in, uses declarations like "Copyright 2015 christ university", this doesn't imply that these pictures can't be used for educational purposes. This is because the idea of creative commons license is still not popular in the country. Even the resources of the government in a public domain website will be accompanied by such declarations hough they can be used for non commercial purposes.

Unlike the laws and regulations in other parts of the world, the counterpart laws in India are incomplete. Also, most of the people are not aware of the CC licenses. Hence, using these images are not actually violation of any rights. I hereby request you to remove such copyright violations against the media that I have uploaded for the purpose of expansion of wikipedia.

Regards, Jiss Tom — Preceding unsigned comment added by Jisstom123 (talkcontribs) 07:06, 18 April 2016 (UTC)

The reason you have received these notices is because they appear to be copyright violations. In the case of File:Dalailamachrist.jpg, you have claimed to be be the copyright holder yet the same image is credited to the AP news agency in newspapers. And with File:Assumptionchrist.jpg, you go on to claim that it was released by the university under a creative commons license which appears, based your note above to be an outright lie. That creative commons licenses are not popular in India does not give you the right to arbitrarily apply that licence to photogrpahs for which you do not hold the copyright. I suggest you look at Wikipedia:Image use policy and familiarize yourself with Wikipedia's policy before uploading any further images. Regards. -- Whpq (talk) 17:39, 18 April 2016 (UTC)

".....s, based your note above to be an outright lie.">>>> I am not a liar and I don't earn anything from writing for wikipedia. Regarding the copyright laws: Since the subject of interest (Christ University) and the author( me myself) comes under the jurisdiction of Indian Law, what comes under copyright protection and what all not is and should be determined according to the Indian Law. Hence, the free use of any work for educational purposes without any commercial gains is allowed and should be permitted as it is permissible under Indian Law. First refer the law and then JUDGE!!! copyright.gov.in/documents/copyrightrules1957.pdf http://www.tifrh.res.in/tcis/events/facilities/IT_act_2008.pdf — Preceding unsigned comment added by Jisstom123 (talkcontribs) 18:42, 18 April 2016 (UTC)

One of links given in my message above was Wikipedia:Copyrights, a Wikipedia policy. Per that pollicy, under the Governing copyright law section, it specifically states that "The Wikimedia Foundation is based in the United States and accordingly governed by United States copyright law." And I even provided you a link to the image use policy in the previous message. It is quite apparent you have not read any of this material. Again, I encourage you to read this before you upload any more images. Regards. -- Whpq (talk) 18:56, 18 April 2016 (UTC)

Regarding File:Assumptionchrist.jpg

I saw the earlier message sent by you stating that ".... you go on to claim that it was released by the university under a creative commons license which appears, based your note above to be an outright lie. " This is not true as the university allows to use its images and videos for fair and free use. As a student of the university for the past 2 years, I know how much the university works in making the knowledge and information available in open source. It is because of this same reason why the university organizes a wiki contribution drive every year, encouraging the students to contribute to wiki.>>> http://cis-india.org/openness/blog-old/wikipedia-at-forefront-in-christ-university <<< The university also makes use of several open source resources like KOHA ,linux etc. What I am trying to say is that the overall attitude of the institution towards ideas like open source, creative commons etc is supportive. Though it is stated that "Copyright 2016 Christ University" at the bottom of the page, I firmly believe that this doesn't prevent people from using the resources for free and fair use.

In the case of Assumptionchrist.jpg, the image was uploaded to the university site as well as to flickr. Though it is not permissible to use them for commercial purpose, a fair use like that of an wiki article is not a crime and violation of any law. Even the Indian law permits the same. You can refer the original version of Indian IT act 2008 online. Regards, Jiss Tom :) — Preceding unsigned comment added by Jisstom123 (talkcontribs) 18:57, 18 April 2016 (UTC)

But you did not upload the image as copyrighted and useable under fair use. You specifically applied a Creative Commons license to the image. You are not the copyright holder. You cannot make that decision. The university must release it under that license. -- Whpq (talk) 19:00, 18 April 2016 (UTC)

Thanks

thanks so much for your recent correction, i've taken note and will make sure it doesn't happen again. Thanks again Historywiki11 (talk) 21:28, 19 April 2016 (UTC)

The source was Wikipedia Commons. I could not get it to post to my article so I saved it from Wiki and reposted it to the Commons and it posted fine — Preceding unsigned comment added by Mcb133aco (talkcontribs) 07:02, 1 May 2016 (UTC)

Do you have a link to the file on Commons? --Whpq (talk) 20:18, 1 May 2016 (UTC)

This is MCB133

Thank you. A fellow Wiki of yours did not care for the "Un-encyclopedic" format of the article and deleted nearly all of WWII and removed the the most distinguishing history of the Unit. I thought Encyclopedias were repositories of "Facts". So much for my education. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 184.97.131.238 (talk) 19:53, 2 May 2016 (UTC) Thanks for the photo copyright warning but the picture you have a problem with is posted on Wikipedia Commons and is a US Government Picture. Seriously — Preceding unsigned comment added by 184.97.131.238 (talk) 05:11, 1 May 2016 (UTC)

Yes I am aware that the picture posted is a US government photo. As I stated in the note I left you, I found the Commons version of the image. It would have been helpful if you had replied to my previous query for a link to the Commons file; instead I had to hunt it down. AS for the removal of material from Naval Mobile Construction Battalion 133, I would have to agree with the user removing the material. Wikipedia is an encyclopedia, and the articles should be in an encyclopedic style. An encyclopedia article is not a hodge podge collection of facts. What I saw was a lot of trivial detail that would detract from a reader's ability to understand the article topic as they were swamped with trivial detail that did not have any cohesion. Regards. -- Whpq (talk) 19:00, 3 May 2016 (UTC)

Im Da One File

Hello! I have a license with an approval to use it on Wikipedia, and approving the Public Domain usage. Does this work? --OGfromtheGut (talk) 20:23, 23 May 2016 (UTC)

Not quite. You need to follow the process outlined in Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission. Regards --Whpq (talk) 20:47, 23 May 2016 (UTC)
I did contacted directly the e-mail of the author (the rapper Dejuan Lucian) where can I send the license? --OGfromtheGut (talk) 22:12, 23 May 2016 (UTC)
The instructions are in the link in my reply above. --Whpq (talk) 22:18, 23 May 2016 (UTC)

File:Pes gameplay screenshot.png

Hello I found you kept photo uploaded by me (File:Pes gameplay screenshot.png) on deletion policy. Please remove it because I uploaded this photo through upload wizard and all the licence and tags are provided by the computer itself but you are still saying that licence and tags are wrong. Plese remove this photo from deletion policy. Beebek 23:55, 29 May 2016 (UTC) — Preceding unsigned comment added by Nepali keto62 (talkcontribs)

The screenshot from a video game contains elements that are copyrighted by the maker of the game. As such, the image is not free for Wikipedia to use. If you want to make a case for keeping it, you will need to do at the deletion discussion for that file. --Whpq (talk) 01:20, 30 May 2016 (UTC)

Non-free content

Thank, I must have missed something. Pmaster12 (talk) 17:26, 9 June 2016 (UTC) Do you know how to correct this? Pmaster12 (talk) 17:30, 9 June 2016 (UTC)

I meant what's the requirement of free images? Can you give examples. Pmaster12 (talk) 02:25, 10 June 2016 (UTC)

File:Pacquiao with WBO belts.jpg

The file has been already allowed to use and permission has been granted isn't it? Did you even read the template posted on it? Why are you still trying to delete it? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Prettyboy361 (talkcontribs) 05:14, 12 June 2016 (UTC)

I explained why back on June 8 when I posted this note to you talk page. Not everything can be posted simply by adding a non-free rationale. They must meet all non-free content criteria, and your non-free uploads all fail to meet one or more of them. -- Whpq (talk) 10:24, 12 June 2016 (UTC)
