List of symphony orchestras
editPlease refrain from vandalizing Wikipedia by adding large volumes of un-notable information to articles. If you believe some of these orchestras ARE notable, establish their notability by providing sources, THEN add them to Wikipedia. A good way to go about this would be to create the article for the orchestra first, and then add a link to that article on the list. The applicable policies are WP:NOTABILITY, WP:VERIFIABILITY and WP:reliable sources. Thank you. Dlabtot (talk) 05:33, 27 July 2009 (UTC)
Do you have any intention of creating the red-linked articles? Do you understand that Wikipedia is a collaborative editing project and that you cannot ignore attempts to discuss edits? Dlabtot (talk) 00:51, 30 July 2009 (UTC)
I'm still hoping that you will choose to engage constructively and participate in discussions. Please DO respond, either here, or, preferably on the article talk page. Dlabtot (talk) 18:32, 30 July 2009 (UTC)
Lists, whether they are embedded lists or stand-alone lists, are encyclopedic content as are paragraphs and articles, and they are equally subject to Wikipedia's content policies such as Verifiability, No original research, Neutral point of view, and others.
The verifiability policy states that if material is challenged or likely to be challenged, it is the responsibility of the editor who adds or restores the material to an article to cite sources for that material. Inclusion of material on a list should be based on what reliable sources say, not on what the editor interprets the source to be saying. In the case of edits lacking citations, according to Wikipedia:Verifiability:
Any material lacking a reliable source may be removed, but editors may object if you remove material without giving them sufficient time to provide references. If you want to request a source for an unsourced statement, consider tagging a sentence by adding the {{fact}} template, a section with {{unreferencedsection}}, or the article with {{refimprove}} or {{unreferenced}}. Alternatively, you may leave a note on the talk page requesting a source, or you may move the material to the talk page.

Remember, talking is good. If you find yourself disagreeing with another editor, talk to them, either on their talk page or on the article talk page. Elen of the Roads (talk) 22:54, 30 July 2009 (UTC)
Thank you for the info. What I have provided is not "spam" as another editor said. What I have provided is an English translation of this page: http://ja.wikipedia.org/wiki/%E3%82%AA%E3%83%BC%E3%82%B1%E3%82%B9%E3%83%88%E3%83%A9%E3%81%AE%E4%B8%80%E8%A6%A7#.E6.97.A5.E6.9C.AC Hope I did the right thing. (Wiki2go (talk) 23:40, 30 July 2009 (UTC))
- Well, I'm sorry for my choice of words. I should not have said 'spam', nor should I have accused you of 'vandalizing'. So, although I can not take those words back, I hope you will accept my sincere and humble apologies for using them. As for the issue of the List, I'm sure your translation of the Japanese wikipedia was well intentioned, but Wikipedia, whether English or any other language, is not considered a reliable source for our verifiability policy. There has to be some criteria for inclusion on the list; we don't want to try to make a list of all orchestras that exist. So it seems to me to be reasonable that for inclusion, the orchestra should have garnered non-trivial coverage in reliable third-party sources. (talk) 23:52, 30 July 2009 (UTC)
Well, I've found some sources for all the Japanese orchestras listed. Dlabtot is probably right - orchestras listed should have some degree of notability, otherwise that list will be 100Gb! The Tokyo New City and the Tokyo New Philharmonic don't seem to have many references, most of the others are sound - mix of official websites, reputable discography and the odd concert review. Wiki2go, if you have any Japanese sources about these orchestras, that would be great too. Might even be able to convert most of the redlinks into stub articles - there's enough info, but in some cases it's only in Nipponese. You two can discuss in on Talk:List of symphony orchestrasElen of the Roads (talk) 00:21, 31 July 2009 (UTC)
I doubt you're a native Japanese speaker, but it's miran, according to translations and Japanese dictionaries. Not mira. As with Anna Tsuchiya, leave it lowercase. ★Dasani★ 20:48, 26 September 2009 (UTC)
- You could read it "miran" but could also read it "mira". It's okay to read the Kanji in different ways when you use it for baby's names. Please refer to her Official Blog; http://ameblo.jp/leahdizon/day-20090510.html Wiki2go (talk) 23:30, 26 September 2009 (UTC)
