editPlease refrain from making unconstructive edits to Wikipedia, as you did at 2022 AFL season. Your edits appear to be disruptive and have been or will be reverted.
- If you are engaged in an article content dispute with another editor, please discuss the matter with the editor at their talk page, or the article's talk page, and seek consensus with them. Alternatively, you can read Wikipedia's dispute resolution page, and ask for independent help at one of the relevant noticeboards.
- If you are engaged in any other form of dispute that is not covered on the dispute resolution page, please seek assistance at Wikipedia's Administrators' noticeboard/Incidents.
Please ensure you are familiar with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines, and please do not continue to make edits that appear disruptive. Continued disruptive editing may result in loss of editing privileges. Thank you. 4TheWynne (talk • contribs) 13:35, 23 April 2023 (UTC)

editHello. I have noticed that you often edit without using an edit summary. Please do your best to always fill in the summary field. This helps your fellow editors use their time more productively, rather than spending it unnecessarily scrutinizing and verifying your work. Even a short summary is better than no summary, and summaries are particularly important for large, complex, or potentially controversial edits. To help yourself remember, you may wish to check the "prompt me when entering a blank edit summary" box in your preferences. Thanks! GMH Melbourne (talk) 04:27, 17 April 2024 (UTC)
- Hello, Thank you for bringing this to my attention. I appreciate the reminder about the importance of edit summaries. I will make sure to include summaries with my edits moving forward, even if they are brief. Your guidance on checking the "prompt me when entering a blank edit summary" box in preferences is also duly noted. I'm committed to improving my editing practices and contributing positively to the community. Thanks again for your patience and guidance. WikiWanderer261 (talk) 00:21, 30 April 2024 (UTC)

Bill Shorten
editHello, WikiWanderer 261
You changed the note about Bill Shorten's foreshadowed resignation, to make it look like the other entries, which are all retirements. Do you understand there is a real difference?
Nobody knows at this stage when the election will be, or when the parliament will be dissolved, so those who've said they won't be contesting (i.e. retiring) do not know what the final date of their parliamentary careers will be. The PM will decide that for them. Retirees are not in control of that date.
But people who resign do know their final date, because they personally decide what it is. Now, Shorten may not at this stage know exactly when he will hand his resignation to the Speaker, but when he makes up his mind he'll do that, and his term will cease immediately.
Your edit summary said: "... removed note; even if Shorten vacates the seat in February, his seat can remain vacant until the election, likely to be in May." Respectfully, that is so not the point here. It's about the people who have said they will not be contesting the election, it's not about the fate of their seats. Whether Maribyrnong is filled with a by-election or they leave it vacant pending the general election is neither here nor there. The list in question is about people who are retiring, i.e. people who will be staying in parliament until whenever the PM advises the governor-general to dissove the parliament and call an election.
Bill Shorten is not in that category. By the time the election is called, he will be long gone, because he has decided to resign on a date of his own choosing, some time in February (but that's obviously subject to change). I'm OK with him being on the list, but to say nothing about his circumstances is to mislead our readers. That's why I put those words in (the ones you've removed). Cheers. -- Jack of Oz [pleasantries] 12:42, 7 September 2024 (UTC)
- Hi Jack of Oz,
- Thank you for your message and for clarifying the distinction between retiring MPs and those resigning. I understand now that Bill Shorten’s situation, as a resignation, is different from a retirement, where the timing is indeed determined by the PM and the dissolution of parliament. Apologies and I will keep this distinction in mind for future edits.
- Cheers. WikiWanderer261 (talk) 09:08, 10 September 2024 (UTC)
