Hello, I'm GiantSnowman. I noticed that you made a change to an article, David Nelson (footballer), but you didn't provide a reliable source. It's been removed for now, but if you'd like to include a citation and re-add it, please do so! If you need guidance on referencing, please see the referencing for beginners tutorial, or if you think I made a mistake, you can leave me a message on my talk page. Thank you. If you specify the source when adding the material, then I have no problems at all with you making that edit. GiantSnowman 08:14, 17 October 2013 (UTC)Reply

Len Townsend

edit

Hello. I have no further sources for Len Townsend, I may have just linked to Ashford Town and not realised it linked through to the Middlesex team. Then again, looking at Townsend's late career and management, it seems strange that he'd move out of the Middx/Berks/Surrey area, as that's where all his clubs were. It probably does all point to him having a player/assistant manager spell at Ashford Town (Kent) I guess! Beatpoet (talk) 13:15, 14 December 2014 (UTC)Reply

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. An automated process has detected that when you recently edited Ashford United F.C., you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Hastings United (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are usually incorrect, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of unrelated topics with similar titles. (Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.)

Hi there - Wikipedia relies on reliable sources to verify information, especially about living people. You didn't provide a source for your changes to the Paul McNally (footballer) article, and I couldn't find one either. If you have a reliable source please let me know and we can change the article. Please let me know if you have any questions. GiantSnowman 18:09, 26 June 2022 (UTC)Reply

Hi GS. Stats were taken from printed season summary table included on posting #11 on thread https://www.tapatalk.com/groups/doverathletic/reminiscences-t8239.html - it contains sufficient detail to be legitimate so I used the info. Cheers WK Wikikipper (talk) 21:48, 26 June 2022 (UTC)Reply

Formatting references to sources accessed via the British Newspaper Archive

edit

Hello. This is a properly formatted reference of this sort:

"The London League". Sporting Life. 28 April 1902. Retrieved 3 February 2023 – via British Newspaper Archive.

markup:

{{cite newspaper |date=28 April 1902 |title=The London League |url=https://www.britishnewspaperarchive.co.uk/viewer/bl/0000893/19020428/072/0008 | url-access=subscription |access-date=3 February 2023 |via=[[British Newspaper Archive]] |newspaper=[[Sporting Life (British newspaper)|Sporting Life]]}}

(this example does not include the page, but the page is needed too, and is added using the page parameter; please see {{Cite newspaper}})

Please format such references accordingly. The way in which you have added the references to, for example, 1969–70 Kent Football League is not suitable. Eventually, if you do not do so, I will have to move that article and possibly other such articles which you have created to draftspace.

Thank you for your contributions. Sincerely —Alalch E. 16:49, 24 March 2024 (UTC)Reply

1969–70 Kent Football League moved to draftspace

edit

Thanks for your contributions to 1969–70 Kent Football League. Unfortunately, I do not think it is ready for publishing at this time because it has no sources, it needs more sources to establish notability and should reference specific reliable sources, not a link to a newspaper search engine.. I have converted your article to a draft which you can improve, undisturbed for a while.

Please see more information at Help:Unreviewed new page. When the article is ready for publication, please click on the "Submit your draft for review!" button at the top of the page OR move the page back. Jonathan Deamer (talk) 17:56, 24 March 2024 (UTC)Reply

Hi, Thanks for your review and advice. I have added the detail to the sources for both the League and Cup sections to the article (1969-70 Kent Football League). I intend to do likewise for the other reverted Kent Football League articles I recently edited. Wikikipper (talk) 15:08, 25 March 2024 (UTC)Reply

I am in the process of reviewing various recent edits of yours and it seems that you are attempting to provide verification for the content you are adding in an inappropriate manner, which I have written about in the above section: § Formatting references to sources accessed via the British Newspaper Archive. All such edits will be reverted and you are free to remake them with actual references. A bit disappointing perhaps, but shouldn't be big of a deal. If you need help on the technical side please ask at the WP:TEAHOUSE. Sincerely—Alalch E. 23:07, 24 March 2024 (UTC)Reply

  • @Jonathan Deamer: Hello. From your draftification about which you notified above, I can tell that you have seen the same issue that I have seen. I am pinging you to give a second opinion if you would be so inclined: Would you do a spot check of this editor's recent edits which I have reverted and confirm that they should indeed be undone. Thank you.—Alalch E. 23:33, 24 March 2024 (UTC)Reply
@Alalch E. Thanks for reaching out. I agree with your reversions. "Sources: [list of newspaper names] newspapers" and the specific websites used are definitely not valid. In this diff, "Source: Folkestone Herald, 8 July 1999, p75" gets a little closer but still not appropriate as it stands. Jonathan Deamer (talk) 21:17, 25 March 2024 (UTC)Reply
