My concern about your username (Wikipedian64)
editHello, Wikipedian64, and thank you for contributing to Wikipedia!
I hope not to seem unfriendly or make you feel unwelcome, but I noticed your username, and am concerned that it might not meet Wikipedia's username policy. After you look over that policy, could we discuss that concern here?
Specifically, the term "Wikipedia" is not allowed in usernames.
I'd appreciate learning your own views, for instance your reasons for wanting this particular name, and what alternative username you might accept that avoids raising this concern.
You have several options freely available to you:
- If you can relieve my concern through discussing it here, I can stop worrying about it.
- If the two of us can't agree here, we can ask for help through Wikipedia's dispute resolution process, such as asking for a "third opinion", or requesting comments from other Wikipedians. Admins usually abide by agreements reached through this process.
- If you decide to just go ahead and change your username, it is possible for you to keep your present contributions history under the new username: simply request a new name here following the guidelines on that page, rather than creating a whole new account.
Let me reassure you that my writing here means I don't think your username is grossly, blatantly, or obviously inappropriate; such names get reported straight to Wikipedia:Administrator_intervention_against_vandalism (WP:AIV), or blocked on sight. This is more a case where opinions might differ, and it would be good to reach some consensus — either here or at WP:RFC/NAME. So I look forward to a friendly discussion, and to enjoying your continued participation on Wikipedia. Thank you again! -- —Krellis (Talk) 16:32, 12 March 2007 (UTC)
Re: Username
editI read the Username Policy, and see that it is clearly stated that usernames cannot have "Wikipedia" in them. But there is no real explanation on why this is so. Not trying to be rude or anything, and I understand the policy, but I would like a reason on why they (usernames) cannot have "Wikipedia" in them. Thanks.
P.S. If absolutely necessary, I will change my name before this becomes a problem, but I'd actually rather not change my name. Again, thanks. Wikipedian64 21:31, 12 March 2007 (UTC)
- As I understand it, the policy prohibits the use of the term "Wikipedia" because it is a trademark owned by the Wikimedia foundation. To keep their trademark valid, they must control use of the term, and that includes forbidding it in usernames. —Krellis (Talk) 21:55, 12 March 2007 (UTC)
- Then Why are the people who had it before still allowed to have it? Wikipedian64 21:56, 12 March 2007 (UTC)
- Please see here for extensive discussion of this rule and why it was put into place. I was not part of the original discussion, and thus it is difficult for me to synthesize a simple answer for you - it is probably easiest to simply read the (lengthy) discussion for more information about how this policy came to be. —Krellis (Talk) 22:21, 12 March 2007 (UTC)
- So Do I have to change my Name? Wikipedian64 23:44, 12 March 2007 (UTC)
- Hi there... Your going to need to select one account and stick with it. I noticed you were harassing SparrowsWing... are you done with that? That kind of behavior won't be tolerated for long. ---J.S (T/C/WRE) 01:20, 13 March 2007 (UTC)
J.S., I'm really sorry about all of this. I will not harrass anyone anymore, or do anything. I am not using "Ziwhtam" anymore. I am sticking with "Wikipedian64" for good. You may clear all traces of Ziwhtam(I can't even edit my own userpage). I have learned my lessons on the importance of Wikipedia, so please, I beg of you, to let me start over, and lift the block on me. I will only make constructive comments/edits on Userpages/articles. Please lift the block. Thank you. Wikipedian64 20:40, 13 March 2007 (UTC)

Vandalism problems
editIt looks like you did the correct thing. AS long as they stop after you warn them that's the main thing. THere is a lot of information at Wikipedia:Vandalism and the templates for warning vandals are at Wikipedia:Template messages/User talk namespace. If you go through a set of warnings and they are still vandalsing then there is Wikipedia:Administrator intervention against vandalism. Remember to remain civil because sooner or later they will come here and swear at you or mess with your user page. Cheers. CambridgeBayWeather (Talk) 21:50, 20 March 2007 (UTC)

editActually, you are correct in that you didn't (necessarily) write anything untrue, but Wikipedia is about verifiability, not truth. Anything added must be verifiable, which requires citing sources. Sorry, but dem's da rules. Gene S. Poole 01:31, 23 April 2007 (UTC)
Fair use image use
editBecause per Wikipedia:Non-free content criteria item #9, the use of fair use images outside of the main article namespace it not permitted. The images I removed are all fair use, copyrighted images. You may not display them on your userpage. I am re-removing the images from your userpage. Please do not re-add them, or any other fair use, copyrighted images, as this is directly against policy. Hope this helps answer your question, --Durin 12:06, 23 April 2007 (UTC)
A tag has been placed on Super Mario Wiki, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done because it is an article about a certain website, blog, forum, or other web content that does not assert the importance or significance of that web location. Cross-namespace redirects
editFirst, please don't create cross-namespace redirects, such as Wikiholic; the main article namespace is intended for encyclopedic articles, but the 'Wikipedia:' namespace documents various maintenance and meta-information about Wikipedia — but not encyclopedic content.
Second, redirects require brackets around the target article title; please see WP:REDIR for details. -- intgr #%@! 00:10, 6 June 2007 (UTC)

Image copyright problem with Image:Gizoogle.gif
editThank you for uploading Image:Gizoogle.gif. However, it currently is missing information on its copyright status. Wikipedia takes copyright very seriously. It may be deleted soon, unless we can determine the license and the source of the image. If you know this information, then you can add a copyright tag to the image description page.
If you have any questions, please feel free to ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thanks again for your cooperation. NOTE: once you correct this, please remove the tag from the image's page. STBotI (talk) 17:15, 9 March 2008 (UTC)

Image copyright problem with File:Inyourway.jpg
editThanks for uploading File:Inyourway.jpg. The image has been identified as not specifying the copyright status of the image, which is required by Wikipedia's policy on images. If you don't indicate the copyright status of the image on the image's description page, using an appropriate copyright tag, it may be deleted some time in the next seven days. If you have uploaded other images, please verify that you have provided copyright information for them as well.
For more information on using images, see the following pages:
This is an automated notice by STBotI. For assistance on the image use policy, see Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. NOTE: once you correct this, please remove the tag from the image's page. STBotI (talk) 01:24, 20 March 2009 (UTC)
File source problem with File:SeibuLionsNewLogo.gif
editThanks for uploading File:SeibuLionsNewLogo.gif. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, then a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a restatement of that website's terms of use of its content, is usually sufficient information. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher, their copyright should also be acknowledged.
If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the image is copyrighted under a non-free license (per Wikipedia:Fair use) then the image will be deleted 48 hours after 02:46, 20 March 2009 (UTC). If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. — neuro(talk)(review) 02:46, 20 March 2009 (UTC)

Orphaned non-free image File:SeibuLionsNewLogo.gif
editThanks for uploading File:SeibuLionsNewLogo.gif. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).
Note that any non-free images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described in the criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. Skier Dude (talk) 08:42, 3 October 2011 (UTC)
