User talk:Wikipediarules2221/Archive
Welcome!
Hello, and welcome to Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia! Thank you for your contributions. I hope you like the place and decide to stay. If you are stuck, and looking for help, please come to the Newcomers help page, where experienced Wikipedians can answer any queries you have! Or, you can just type {{helpme}}
on your user page, and someone will show up shortly to answer your questions. Here are a few good links for newcomers:
I noticed you are known only as an IP address; that means you are not signed up. To sign up, you only need to click Create account and choose a username and password. You don't need to provide any personal information. If you sign up, you'll have a username that others can use to recognize you and leave you messages on the wiki. You'll be able to sign your name just by typing four tildes (~~~~) when you leave someone else a message. Plus, you (and others) will easily be able to see a list of all your contributions to Wikipedia.
If you have any questions, see the help pages, ask at the Village pump, or feel free to ask me on my talk page. Again, welcome! -- MyNameIsNotBob 01:44, 20 April 2006 (UTC)
RC Patrol
editTo patrol recent changes (edits) go to the recent changes page which can be found in the Navigation tool bar on the left hand side of the page or here: Special:Recentchanges. The click through the recent changes. Using the "diff" button is a good way to compare the current edit with the old one. When you find where someone has vandalised something you can manually remove the vandalisation or you can revert the page. (take paticular note of this: "Be sure to add the word "revert" (or "rv") to the edit summary, along with a short explanation if not obvious."). Also, when you discover vandalisation, it may be advisable to warn the vandal on their talk page. To do this there are several templates to use which can be found here: Wikipedia:RC_patrol. That page also has all the other information you might want on RC patrol. You might alos want to see these pages: Wikipedia:Vandalism and if you find a persistant vandal Wikipedia:Administrator_intervention_against_vandalism skorpion 03:43, 19 June 2006 (UTC)
No personal attacks, please
editWith regards to your comments on User talk:VKokielov: Please see Wikipedia's no personal attacks policy. "Do not make personal attacks anywhere in Wikipedia. Comment on content, not on the contributor. Personal attacks damage the community and deter users." Please keep this in mind while editing. Thanks. Avenue 03:32, 12 July 2006 (UTC)
- Please do not remove warnings from your talk page. Removing or altering warnings from your talk page will not remove them from the page history. If you continue to remove or vandalize warnings from your talk page, you will lose your privilege of editing your talk page. Thanks. -- Avenue 00:33, 13 July 2006 (UTC)
Hi, Pat. Daniel Bryant (a.k.a. Killfest) left these messages to you at WP:AIV. I was cleaning up over there, but wasn't sure whether you had seen them, so I'm moving them here — if you have seen them, feel free to remove them. Thanks! —Josiah Rowe (talk • contribs) 06:37, 16 July 2006 (UTC)
- Make sure you go through the stages of giving them level 1-3 warnings, even if they vandalised only yesterday. Start the warning scale fresh, and don't just jump to level 4 straight away, unless an admin has placed the template saying "this user is a known persistant vandal, and any further vandalism edits may result in a ban" at the top of the user talk page. Killfest2 06:17, 16 July 2006 (UTC)
- Pat, make sure you don't add the "blocked" templates to users - let the admins do that when they actually block them. Killfest2 06:14, 16 July 2006 (UTC)

editI've removed the {{nonsense}} tags that you placed on this article because there is a current AfD debate going on here. Kevin 09:16, 16 July 2006 (UTC)
202.7.183.131
edit- Hi I think the warning you gave to 202.7.183.131 (talk · contribs) was probably a bit too over the top. I didn't see the edit to Intelligent Design as vandalism but as a meaningful clarification- it was in context and sensible. The article is a sensitive topic of course and there has been vandalism previously from that IP. Regards--A Y Arktos\talk 09:21, 16 July 2006 (UTC)
Same with 71.235.32.99 (talk · contribs · deleted contribs · filter log · WHOIS · RDNS · RBLs · http · block user · block log), who has never recieved a warning. It's hardly fair to threaten an immediate block before even explaining our policies. Also, the July 16 edit was not simple vandalism - the incident in question did in fact occur.
