Speedy deletion nomination of Hydra (Nightclub)
editIf this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.
You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.
A tag has been placed on Hydra (Nightclub) requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a person, organization (band, club, company, etc.), web content or organised event, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please read more about what is generally accepted as notable.
If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator, or if you have already done so, you can place a request here. Speedy deletion nomination of Chris Doss (Producer)

This is an automated message from CorenSearchBot. I have performed a search with the contents of Chris Doss, and it appears to be very similar to another Wikipedia page: Chris Doss (Producer). It is possible that you have accidentally duplicated contents, or made an error while creating the page— you might want to look at the pages and see if that is the case. If you are intentionally trying to rename an article, please see Help:Moving a page for instructions on how to do this without copying and pasting. If you are trying to move or copy content from one article to a different one, please see Wikipedia:Copying within Wikipedia and be sure you have acknowledged the duplication of material in an edit summary to preserve attribution history.
It is possible that the bot is confused and found similarity where none actually exists. If that is the case, you can remove the tag from the article. CorenSearchBot (talk) 21:04, 3 October 2014 (UTC)
Speedy deletion nomination of Chris Doss
editHello WillShuck,
I wanted to let you know that I just tagged Chris Doss for deletion, because it seems to be promotional, rather than an encyclopedia article.
If you feel that the article shouldn't be deleted and want more time to work on it, you can contest this deletion, but please don't remove the speedy deletion tag from the top.
You can leave a note on my talk page if you have questions. Trivialist (talk) 23:31, 3 October 2014 (UTC)
- You may want to work on a draft of the article in your userspace (at User:WillShuck/Chris Doss), so you can improve it until it's ready to go in Wikipedia proper. Also, if you could add more third-party independent sources as references, that would be helpful in establishing his notability. Trivialist (talk) 03:24, 4 October 2014 (UTC)
(at Trivialist Aren't those all 3rd party sources?? BMI is unalterable as, if the numbers don't add up it would be stricken from the site. Those were the best 3rd party references I could find that were biased and met the burden of proof. I believed iMDB was also a reliable 3rd party source. Regardless, you flagged it for promotion and there is NO promotion occuring. I read it and re-read it. Then I read the Wiki guidelines as to promotion/self promotion. This page was guilty of NOT one example. This isn't a project I'm "too close to" as I've only met the guy once. Everything in the write up is historically correct as well as true AND biased. It is also linked to 2 other Wikipedia pages of whom he produced their singles. At the end of the day, I'm not trying to argue with you. I just hope you will consider unflagging this as it took me quite awhile to do and was/is a pet project of mine.
If anything I can see how maybe it would be promoting some of the artist's he has worked with, but I didn't know how else to link them up using proper tags.
Chris Doss
editHi WillShuck, I was about to tag your article for not indicating why Doss is important enough to have an encyclopedia article about him when I found it was already tagged as promotional. I will leave it to Trivialist to explain above why it is promotional, but I want to say IMO the lack of indicated importance was a greater fault in your article: Most record producers, entrepreneurs and nightclub owners are not important enough to have an encyclopedia article about them; so why is Chris Doss remarkable? Read Wikipedia:Notability (people) for the kind of thing we are looking for.
While I’ve got your attention, can I ask how it is that he is using your logo for his nightclub when you’ve only met him once. —teb728 t c 05:18, 4 October 2014 (UTC)
(at teb728) I can see where the "entrepreneur" and "nightclub owner" part was pointless. I was just trying to use tag words. He did a song for me and it's to this day my favorite (Not that that matters to you guys as moderators). But from the time I spent with him I developed a passion for production and have followed other productions he's done. I've seen countless other record producers with Wikipedia pages that have done the same quality work if not LESS notable. I have far more information on what makes him "remarkable" but was trying to avoid making it look like a "puff piece"...
As for the logo, I found it on the venue's website. It's public domain. Sorry if I uploaded it wrong. I'm still rather new to this. Thought I uploaded it through the Wiki Commons.
While I've got your attention, may I ask why it seems you are singling me out?? Because I accidentally deleted that tag you put on the "Hydra" page?? I apologized and was very sincere. I also hit you up to let you know I had erred... Also, I agree about the Hydra page not meeting the standards as I have re-read them. I only made the page to try and make the Chris Doss page not an "Orphan". — Preceding unsigned comment added by WillShuck (talk • contribs) 06:52, 4 October 2014 (UTC)
- I’ll give the easiest replies first: A tip: When you post on a talk page, sign your post with four tildes like ~~~~ That will insert your username and a timestamp; so people will know who is writing.
- There is no reason to think the logo is in the public domain. Stuff you find on the internet is almost never in the in the public domain (unless it is very old or was explicitly released from copyright). I hope you won’t feel bad if I tag the logo for deletion. You’re not planning to rewrite the Hydra article; so you don’t need it.
- I’m not singling you out (at least not in a negative way). Because many people seem to confuse Wikipedia with Facebook, where they can create a page and put almost anything they want on it, one of the ways I help Wikipedia is by “pulling weeds in the garden.” In September alone I nominated 246 new articles for speedy deletion. The only way I gave you special treatment is by creating this thread.
- Read WP:42 for a very concise summary of what we are looking for in an article. Has Doss received significant coverage in reliable sources that are independent of him? For example, if the Los Angeles Times and Rolling Stone published articles about Doss, and you summarized those articles, it would show his notability without looking puffy at all. On the other hand your BMI credits show only that he worked on those recordings, which says nothing about whether he is remarkable or not.
- I can’t speak for Trivialist, but my guess about why he/she found the article promotional is your name-dropping of the performers Doss has worked with, and the way you went out of your way to build up his father, mother, and uncle. That made the article puffy (while making Doss seem inconsequential in comparison). —teb728 t c 08:34, 5 October 2014 (UTC)
