Block message:

Autoblocked because your IP address was recently used by "Maldoror2". The reason given for Maldoror2's block is: "Disrupting Wikipedia to make a point".

Decline reason: Assignments that involve obtaining information from Wikipedia should not be affected. If you are involved in an editing assignment, then could you supply details of this, especially, who is your contact in Wikimedia? PhilKnight (talk) 06:00, 3 October 2014 (UTC)Reply

I am a professor of Political Science/History at Three Rivers Community College. I am writing to inform you that this administrative hold is blocking student access to an assignment because most are non-traditional students who are commuting to a satellite campus in southeast Missouri and only have access to the computer lab.

It seems clear that the IP block restricts the entire campus since I am typing this from my office and received the same notification. Please remove this hold so my students can complete their work as assigned.

If it of any reassurance, I have gotten the culpable student (see above) to confess to Internet vandalism and have given him another assignment which does require access to this website. You have my permission to delete his account if you prefer.

Thank you.

Mr. Knight,

Yes, they have been given an editing assignment to display the malleability of historic fact. I am assuming the contact is as listed, i.e., "Yunshui." It would appear as if we've been a victim of this: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Disabling_edits_by_unregistered_users_and_stricter_registration_requirement#Justification

Professor, I was much put off by the tone of your remarks. It's my experience that Wikipedia editors and admins do not react well to sarcasm and disparagement. It might be wise to remember that you alone are defending The Edward Snowden Affair: Exposing the Politics and Media Behind the NSA Scandal. You do your case no good by attempting to shift the blame ("How Wikipedia chose to handle this situation created a problem for many, many people … I'm trying to tell them it's your fault") and dispensing snark ("I truly cannot thank you enough for this … I love how Wikipedia does business").   Hello and welcome to Wikipedia. When you add content to talk pages and Wikipedia pages that have open discussion (but never when editing articles), please be sure to sign your posts. There are two ways to do this. Either:

  1. Add four tildes ( ~~~~ ) at the end of your comment; or
  2. With the cursor positioned at the end of your comment, click on the signature button (  or  ) located above the edit window.

This will automatically insert a signature with your username or IP address and the time you posted the comment. This information is necessary to allow other editors to easily see who wrote what and when.

Thank you. --SineBot (talk) 05:19, 5 October 2014 (UTC)Reply
