Union Jack

edit

Hi Wiz,

You are right that the last instance of Union Jack which you "corrected" is not directly a quote, although it is interesting that all contemporary references to the conditions of that competition say "Union Jack", not "Union Flag". It is true that a "jack" is a flag used on the bow of a ship, and it is even probable that the name Union Jack comes from that usage. However, this doesn't mean that the name cannot be used more broadly than that, and objections to calling it the Union Jack are relatively recent. In 1902, the British Admiralty declared that both names can be used officially (and they both are). In an Australian context, I prefer to use "Union Jack", as all Australian documents about flags do, including the Flags Act, proclamation of the Naval and Air Force Ensigns, etc. JPD (talk) 07:14, 3 July 2008 (UTC)Reply

Consensus

edit

You are asking me to get consensus to show that the Ulster Banner is not the flag of NI, why would I need to do that when it is a fact. So knowing that NI doesn't have an official flag why are you edit warring to insert it? You know it is against the MOS, Overbroad use of flags with politicized connotations namely Use of the Ulster Banner to represent Northern Ireland in inappropriate contexts; see Northern Ireland flags issue and Wikipedia:Irish flags for details. 3 Revert Rule

edit

You currently appear to be engaged in an edit war according to the reverts you have made on 2011 Premier League Darts. Users are expected to collaborate with others and avoid editing disruptively.

In particular, the three-revert rule states that:

  1. Making more than three reversions on a single page within a 24-hour period is almost always grounds for an immediate block.
  2. Do not edit war even if you believe you are right.

If you find yourself in an editing dispute, use the article's talk page to discuss controversial changes; work towards a version that represents consensus among editors. You can post a request for help at an appropriate noticeboard or seek dispute resolution. In some cases it may be appropriate to request temporary page protection. If you continue to edit war, you may be blocked from editing without further notice. Mo ainm~Talk 17:44, 18 April 2011 (UTC)Reply

April 2011

edit

Welcome to Wikipedia. Although everyone is welcome to contribute constructively to the encyclopedia, we must insist that you assume good faith while interacting with other editors, which you did not on 2011 Premier League Darts. Take a look at the welcome page to learn more about contributing to this encyclopedia. Thank you. Please comment on the content not the contributors as you did here. Personal attack

edit

Please remove your personal attack on me [here]. It is in breach of WP:NPA. Failure to remove it may lead to sanctions. Sarah777 (talk) 18:12, 8 May 2011 (UTC)Reply

A statement by Sarah777, i think it was "Law of Hypocrisy", comes to mind here. They regard "I noticed those dreadful comments. Do they contravene some Wiki rule? They are hateful and have no place here. I notice there is a concerted effort to remove anything "British" from Wikipedia on the part of a few editors. Are there sanctions that can be applied to this behaviour? "- as a personal attack however feel its alright to be provocative and uncivil with their own statements?
I'd ignore this "warning". There is no case at all for sanctions against you for that and this is clearly bullying. Mabuska (talk) 22:11, 8 May 2011 (UTC)Reply
Thanks for the advice. However, I just came close to a 3RR at British Isles talk, so I'll have to watch it. I'll put something to AN/I about Sarah. WizOfOz (talk) 22:15, 8 May 2011 (UTC)Reply

Concur with Mabuska - please ignore this and do not get provoked into a row. However, can you also please desist from edit warring about the use of the hiberno-English template in Talk:British Isles as well? Its placement in the article talk page is reasonable as some Irish terms will be used. Thanks. Jamesinderbyshire (talk) 22:14, 8 May 2011 (UTC)Reply
Thanks, yes I saw that. I backed out my change, but to avoid 3RR. There's no Hiberno-English in that text. Irish words are there, but HE is word-for-word the same in written form as British English. At least that's what I'm advised. The template is there just to make a point. It serves no useful purpose. WizOfOz (talk) 22:18, 8 May 2011 (UTC)Reply
You are welcome to discuss your views on that, but edit-warring is not just about 3 strikes and you're out - the aim is to go to the talk page and discuss even after 1 revert and not to get involved in tit-for-tat edits which just wind everyone up and get absolutely nowhere. Please continue to discuss the point but don't rise to provocations, or cause them. Thanks. Jamesinderbyshire (talk) 22:24, 8 May 2011 (UTC)Reply
Yes please don't edit-war. Follow WP:BRD at all times when a revert is initially made. Also hold off on that AN/I for the time being. Also try not to post comments that could stir things up such as over at the British English template with comments that some views are "medieval" etc. as incivility works both ways. Mabuska (talk) 22:34, 8 May 2011 (UTC)Reply
Ok, I did BRD here [1] but the problem is others don't adhere to it. I did the same at Celtic Languages but then user Asarlaí reverted again, so BRD is good, but other editors seem to get away with it. OK about the ANI - I'll hold off for a while and see what happens. WizOfOz (talk) 22:39, 8 May 2011 (UTC)Reply
Depends if there is a prior agreement or manual of style in use. In regards to Republic of Ireland wikilinked as "Ireland" - if the island isn't being referred to then the RoI is pipe-linked as simply "Ireland" which takes it to the RoI article. In this case Asarlai is correct. He could of pointed you out to the agreement on that though. Mabuska (talk) 23:03, 8 May 2011 (UTC)Reply
Think we might be at cross purposes on this. I'll chceck it. WizOfOz (talk) 23:05, 8 May 2011 (UTC)Reply
It is outlined in the following guideline: MOS:IE#Use_of_Ireland_and_Republic_of_Ireland. It is best to adhere to it to prevent arguements. Mabuska (talk) 23:16, 8 May 2011 (UTC)Reply

Suggested reading.

edit

As you seem to be unsure of the guideline as your question here would suggest can I recommend that you read in full the following guidelines/articles: WP:MOSFLAG, WP:IMOS#FLAG and Northern Ireland flags issue. You may also want to note that adding ANY information about a living person which cannot be verified (e.g. a flag that denotes their questionable nationality) should be removed immediately and without waiting for discussion. Edit warring

edit

Please read and abide by the policy on edit warring, as it applies to your recent edits to 2011 UK Open Darts. I have protected the article from editing for the duration of the RfC. Please wait for consensus to develop there over the next few weeks. There is no deadline. - 2/0 (cont.) 16:06, 25 May 2011 (UTC)Reply

File:Apprentice Boys Derry Flag.PNG needs authorship information

edit
Dear uploader:

The media file you uploaded as File:Apprentice Boys Derry Flag.PNG appears to be missing information as to its authorship (and or source), or if you did provide such information, it is confusing for others trying to make use of the image.

It would be appreciated if you would consider updating the file description page, to make the authorship of the media clearer.

Although some images may not need author information in obvious cases, (such where an applicable source is provided), authorship information aids users of the image, and helps ensure that appropriate credit is given (a requirement of some licenses).

  • If you created this media yourself, please consider explicitly including your user name, for which: {{subst:usernameexpand|WizOfOz}} will produce an appropriate expansion,
    or use the {{own}} template.
  • If this is an old image, for which the authorship is unknown or impossible to determine, please indicate this on the file description page.
If you have any questions please see Help:File page. Thank you. Sfan00 IMG (talk) 20:13, 30 December 2011 (UTC)Reply
