Redirects / Edwaert Collier

edit

You've created a new article Edwart Collier, found out that the article already existed under a different name Evert Collier and then changed the text of the old article to "redirect" to yours. This way the discussion page and the history of the article were lost, while the old article also contained stuff that's not in your text (for example the three references). The thing to do in such a situation is to merge your text in the old article (you may even overwrite it) and then move the article to the new name, if you think that's better. Unfortunately, you used a name that he's basically not known by (24 google hits only should have given you a hint). The Dutch art-historical database (http://www.rkd.nl/rkddb/) says that the preferred name is "Edwaert Collier" (4540 hits), but commonly seen is "Evert Collier" (Evert informal for Edwaert) (5870 hits, partially thanks to wikipedia of course), while "Edwaert Colyer" gives 2140 hits. Of course, the Anglicized form "Edward" pops up a lot too (2240 times for Edward Colyer & Collier combined), though he wouldn't have used that himself. I suggest you revert your redirect in "Evert Collier", merge your text in that article, rename it to "Edwaert Collier" and redirect "Edwart Collier" to "Edwaert Collier". I have fixed the Evert Collier thing for you

edit

I added a link to the painter from the Buccanneers page. Its appropriate to have a dull page disambiguation for this as there are only two and one is as also know as. A link from the article of Edward Collier is therefore the correct way to go. I'm going to review the redirect you put in and will probably reverse it but your link will remain.

Please remember to sign your name at the end of your talk page messages by adding 4 ~~~~ at the end. That makes it possible to know who said what when.

Samuel H. Kress

edit

Thanks for the additions to the article Samuel H. Kress. The list of museums with collections donated by Kress is very useful. However, when you edit in the future please be careful not to destroy all the wikilinks that appear in an article's text. The Kress article probably had too many (it's not important to wikilink individual years, for example), but your recent edit removed all of the article's wikilinks, including some that are standard for Wikipedia biographies, such as dates of birth and death, place of birth, and so on (I've restored the essentials to the article). I noticed that you've started a couple of biographies of artists. They will be welcome additions to the encyclopedia. If you haven't seen it yet, you might find it useful to visit WikiProject Biography. Whyaduck 06:06, 7 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

License tagging for Image:Hans Hofmann's painting 'The Gate', 1959–60.jpg

edit

Thanks for uploading Image:Hans Hofmann's painting 'The Gate', 1959–60.jpg. Wikipedia gets thousands of images uploaded every day, and in order to verify that the images can be legally used on Wikipedia, the source and copyright status must be indicated. Images need to have an image tag applied to the image description page indicating the copyright status of the image. This uniform and easy-to-understand method of indicating the license status allows potential re-users of the images to know what they are allowed to do with the images.

For more information on using images, see the following pages:

Hawaiian art

edit

On Wikipedia we use lower case headings. Please see WP:MSH for more information. I'm also not clear why you deleted the American Art category. In the edit summary, I explained that this applies from the post-1898 period until the contemporary period. —Viriditas | Talk 04:33, 13 May 2007 (UTC)Reply

Disputed fair use rationale for Image:Brett Weston's 'Dune Abstraction, 1969.jpg}

edit

Thank you for uploading Image:Brett Weston's 'Dune Abstraction, 1969.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale provided for using this image under "fair use" may not meet the criteria required by Wikipedia:Non-free content. This can be corrected by going to the image description page and add or clarify the reason why the image qualifies for fair use. In particular, for each page the image is used on, the image must have an explanation linking to that page which explains why it needs to be used on that page. Can you please check:

  • That there is a non-free use rationale on the image's escription page for each article the image is used in.
  • That every article it is used on is linked to from its description page.

Please be aware that a fair use rationale is not the same as an image copyright tag; descriptions for images used under the fair use policy require both a copyright tag and a fair use rationale.

If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it might be deleted by adminstrator within a few days in accordance with our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions, please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you. NOTE: once you correct this, please remove the tag from the image's page.
