Copyright considerations

Hi. I see that the article has been deleted for notability concerns, but wanted to clarify our copyright policies for you, since I noticed your note at Coren's talk page. In order to use previously published text on Wikipedia, we have to have external verification that we can. Because text is automatically protected by copyright in the United States, we need this even if there is no copyright notice displayed on the other source or sources. There are generally two ways for an author of previously published material to release it to us: either noting at the original source that it's free for use or sending an official clearance to the Wikimedia Foundation (you can read about these processes at Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials). It does get complicated, though, when the text has been published at multiple sources, since we have to be able to verify which was the original. This can be a challenge, though tools like the wayback machine can help. If we can't verify original publisher, as sometimes happens when material is disseminated too quickly and the original source is not otherwise verifiable (if the text says, for instance, "We here at the Washington Post, we can pretty well guess that the Washington Post said it first), we may have no choice other than to rewrite material into new language.

While I'm here, let me also note that notability concerns can generally be overcome for most articles by providing multiple references to reliable, previously published sources. (By reliable, we mean newspapers, magazines or respected professional websites, for example. You can read more about sourcing at WP:SOURCE. Our specific guidelines for biographies can be read here.) I'm not at all familiar with wrestling, but if this gentleman achieved some measure of international acclaim, then it should be possible to produce the kinds of sources that we use.
