Your account has been blocked from editing Wikipedia with this username. This is because your username, Wvarchives, does not meet our username policy.
Your username is the only reason for this block. You are welcome to choose a new username (see below) and continue editing.
A username should not be promotional, related to a "real-world" group or organization, misleading, offensive or disruptive. Also, usernames may not end in the word "bot" unless the account is an approved bot account.
You are encouraged to choose a new account name that meets our policy guidelines and create the account yourself. Alternatively, if you have already made edits and you wish to keep your existing contributions under a new name, then you may request a change in username by:
  1. Adding {{unblock-un|your new username here}} below. You should be able to do this even though you are blocked, as you can usually still edit your own talk page. If not, you may wish to contact the blocking administrator by clicking on "Email this user" on their talk page.
  2. At an administrator's discretion, you may be unblocked for 24 hours to file a request.
  3. Please note that you may only request a name that is not already in use, so please check here for a listing of already taken names. The account is created upon acceptance, thus do not try to create the new account before making the request for a name change. For more information, please see Wikipedia:Changing username.
If you think that you were blocked in error, you may appeal this block by adding the text {{unblock|Your reason here}} below this notice, but you should read our guide to appealing blocks first. Drmies (talk) 18:09, 8 August 2018 (UTC)Reply

    • To the next admin: I agree that "historyvw" is better (at least it's not plural), but only marginally so. Wvarchives, this sounds way too much like a role name, like "Alabama PR manager". There is no advantage here in having something that sounds official. Drmies (talk) 21:03, 8 August 2018 (UTC)Reply
Non-admin comment: I also wonder why it should be a single-purpose name at all. My personal suggestion would be choosing a name that is not bound to one specific task on Wikipedia. To me, personally, there appears to be no reason not to choose a "normal" name instead of artifically restricting your contributions to one (apparently controversial!) topic. ~ ToBeFree (talk) 15:36, 9 August 2018 (UTC)Reply
Derp. Brain cells did not connect. I think a more individual name is in order. This new name just looks like some sort of role account or group project. Something more original.-- Dlohcierekim (talk) 16:03, 9 August 2018 (UTC)Reply

  • I apologize for the names I have chosen in the past. I can see how this could have potential to restrict me to one topic. Thanks to all for your suggestions and being patient with me as I learn to navigate WikipediaHistorywv (talk) 19:53, 9 August 2018 (UTC)Reply
@Historywv: non-admin comment: Does the "CCO" part of your name have anything to do with the "organizational positions" titles listed at "CCO"? ~ ToBeFree (talk) 16:31, 10 August 2018 (UTC)Reply
    • No. That they are my intials, tree is part of my last name, and I am the fourth, hence the IV Historywv (talk) —Preceding undated comment added 18:14, 10 August 2018

Managing a conflict of interest

edit

  Hello, Wvarchives. We welcome your contributions, but if you have an external relationship with the people, places or things you have written about on Wikipedia, you may have a conflict of interest (COI). Editors with a COI may be unduly influenced by their connection to the topic. See the conflict of interest guideline and FAQ for organizations for more information. We ask that you:

  • avoid editing or creating articles about yourself, your family, friends, company, organization or competitors;
  • propose changes on the talk pages of affected articles (see the {{request edit}} template);
  • disclose your COI when discussing affected articles (see WP:DISCLOSE);
  • avoid linking to your organization's website in other articles (see WP:SPAM);
  • do your best to comply with Wikipedia's content policies.

In addition, you must disclose your employer, client, and affiliation with respect to any contribution which forms all or part of work for which you receive, or expect to receive, compensation (see WP:PAID).

Also please note that editing for the purpose of advertising, publicising, or promoting anyone or anything is not permitted. Thank you. ~ ToBeFree (talk) 18:37, 8 August 2018 (UTC)Reply

  • Thank you for the encouragement. My goal is to direct readers of Wikipedia to primary source material, I am not intentionally trying to promote anyone or anything. I am an MA student with a true love of the history of my state Wvarchives (talk) 18:44, 8 August 2018 (UTC)Reply
Hey Wvarchives, thank you very much for the clarification. That sounds good.   Feel free to improve these articles in general, too -- I think that there is much more that can be done than just adding external links. Especially as you really love your state, you might have some very good ideas about making these articles more detailled, fixing errors and maybe even writing a whole new article. We would be very happy about your help! ~ ToBeFree (talk) 19:12, 8 August 2018 (UTC)Reply

globally renamed Wvarchives to Historywv-- Dlohcierekim (talk) 15:27, 9 August 2018 (UTC)Reply

@Dlohcierekim: I read the above discussion as indicating that "Historywv" is still seen as problematic and that the editor chose the name "ccotreeiv" instead. Would you mind renaming once more? Huon (talk) 17:33, 21 August 2018 (UTC)Reply
