Gun violence

edit

Hi Wyatt3242000, I saw that your edit to the gun violence article was reverted by Dawnseeker2000 for issues of tone. I have to agree with their action, as it does have issues with how it was written. Here are some notes that should be able to help you:

  • The first issue is that this addition was completely unsourced. All content needs to be backed up with reliable sources that explicitly state the claims being added. Unsourced content can be challenged and removed.
  • The second issue is that this is written in the first person, as it's written from the vantage point of one person to another specific person. Wording like we, you, and I should be avoided, as the work should be written in neutral third person.
  • Another issue is that this doesn't really tie into the topic of gun violence per se, as it just goes over what someone would need to do in order to obtain a gun. There is merit in having a section on gun violence and gun laws, however the section should cover things such as what laws were created as a result of gun violence, critical reaction to the laws (ie, whether or not they will actually reduce gun violence), the issues surrounding such laws, and information on whether or not these laws are actually efficient. This shouldn't go into too much detail since there is an article on gun laws, but it can definitely summarize the content in this article and perhaps have some information that's more specific to gun violence, such as reports and literature reviews that look at what type of results gun laws actually have on gun violence.

I hope that this helps explain why the content was removed. These notes are made even more important to look at since the article is on a controversial topic. As such, the content should be written as neutrally as possible and have the strongest possible sourcing. Shalor (Wiki Ed) (talk) 13:24, 6 August 2019 (UTC)Reply

Thank you Shalor for taking the time to explain that so well (far better than I could have done). Obviously, there was no malice with undoing the edit. A lot of times, it's simply a matter of time, in the sense that I did not feel like I had enough of it to rewrite the prose to exclude the use of "you". So again, thank you for your efforts.
