editI intially tried this method, but rejected it because there are just too many cases where you have to use different markup in the Renders as column, as noted in the {{markup}} documentation. And there are many instances where I have used the {{code}} template to expose the HTML output of a template, which is handy.

- Yeah. There are plenty of times where this approach doesn't work, as indicated by the examples of it not working that I have given. Given that, I am not sure how useful this template is. I basically did it as an experiment. I thought I would stick it out there and see what people made of it.
- Although I think this template could be improved with some better Lua programming, I think there is always going to be the problem that templates are parsed before being passed to Lua...
- ...Unless.... you could force the user to put the input in <nowiki> tags and then strip those tags for the right hand side. I'm guessing you'd have to do a lot more than that though to then make it parse the template on the right.
