I plan to talk about, Alexander Hamilton's last years of his life living in this house and what happened with the property after his death since his wife was filled with debt. The land was bought by Hamilton after he fought in the American Revolution, helped draft and ratifies the Constitution and served as the Secretary of the Treasury.
He built the Grange for the purpose of it being a country retreat where he could enjoy the view of the landscape, spend time with his friends and family and entertain the guests.
-In 1889 the Grange was moved about 500 feet to Covent Avenue. St.Luke’s Episcopal Chruch began to use this home as a chapel. Here many ceremonies and special days of worshiping took place.
- In 2008, the National Park Service moved the Grange to St. Nicholas Park. After 120 years the grange has returned to its restored natural landscape.
- It was used as a get a way from politics for Hamilton.
