Hey, thanks again for your generous and constructive comments on Adam Gilchrist's peer review. Hopefully we'll be able to make the changes you've pointed out soon, make references to certain terms consistent and all that jazz. Then he'll be nominated for WP:FA. Hope you'll join in with that discussion too! Cheers! The Rambling Man 11:44, 1 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

Saturn devouring his son

edit

Hi. I still think that "more refined" is POV. Because we are only saying "more refined" but nothing about the different circumstances which explain why one is "more refined" and the other less. For example, Goya was in a dark period which Rubens didn't know, Goya's painting wasn't intended to be used in public and, after all, the times were different. Would we say that, for example, Picasso is "less refined" than Velazquez? No, they are just different artists, different times, different everything which means that there is no connection between them other than they both were painters.

If this is not enough convincing, well, usually here in wikipedia "less is more", specially less adjectives such as "refined". Mountolive | Talk 07:01, 4 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

You're back! Hurrah and huzzah! You were missed, you know. Thanks for your comment about BL camp. I've somehow become involved in a world far beyond my ken, of GOCs and SRO and Z Special Unit: I'm all at sea and floundering like a baby albatross that's just spotted the great white below. But luckily I have my wise Obi Wan Grant65 to guide me through it all. I only started the article cos my grandparents were in the camp and I wanted to know a bit more about it - here is a woman who turns off the box when the war films come on (well, apart from Ice Cold in Alex which is just the best - if you can look past the silly girlie who lets go of the starting handle on the dune). I digress. Good to have you back, Yomangani. Been anywhere interesting? Jasper33 18:05, 26 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

Having poked around in your redlink area (sorry, coming over all Finbarr Saunders there) my guess is you're in Cuba. Lucky bugger. Can't wait for no 267 on the list ... Jasper33 18:16, 26 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

Harsh! And is 267 similar to dwarf tossing? Funny you should mention orang utans - a friend of my g/ps kept orang utans which were regularly shipped off to zoos - I seem to remember that Sydney Zoo was the main recipient. I think that's partly why the ship-eating pandas struck a chord. Still, it was during the 30s-50s, when attitudes were very different. One day I'm going to see if I can find out what happened to them. Ta for your offer of help on Batu Lintang. You may well come to wish you hadn't (adopts nasal whining wheedling voice 'Yomangani, I'm stuck ...').Jasper33 08:20, 27 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

Ugh. I see what you mean. I must say on all the dinosaur FACs I've been involved in we've had plenty of kids' dino books as references for the pop culture section. I can easily visualise Humphrey not being included in a peer-reviewed journal (or even an adult book for that matter) anywhere. cheers, Casliber | talk | contribs 14:26, 5 April 2007 (UTC)Reply
OK, I did something clever by categorising both Humphrey and Migaloo as subsubheadings under the subsection famous (individual) humpbacks to highlight its level of importance in the scheme of things. As it stands, it is roughly the same size as the Migaloo section above, so I personally am happy to leave it as is as the two highlight some individual vignettes within the subect of whale watching... Some of the refs don't looks quite so bad.. :) cheers, Casliber | talk | contribs 14:36, 5 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

I hope this causes no inconvienience to you Yomangani, but if you look on the page The Cave of Swallows (which i should infact move to Cave of Swallows), you will see that the page holds much less content than it's respective edit page. Once again, because you have proven quite helpful in past, I must consult you on an issue. I have been advised in a message on my talk page that I should not cite another article within wikipedia. I feel that I must ask you: The vaildity of the claim, what I should do if the claim is valid, and the general accepted policy on the matter. I hope you can clear the matter up, and advise me about what I should do in future in regard to referencing the encyclopedia itself. Thank you, --- ÅñôñÿMôús Dîššíd3nt 05:33, 10 April 2007 (UTC)Reply
Thabnk you for your reply, and I'm sorry I did not reply sooner. It is okay if I reference another wikipedia or another wikipedia article in a Notes section, and then, in a separarte References section, cite the references the other wikipedia/wikipedia article used? If I did it this way, it would make it easier to reference, while it would also serve, as far as I can see, to fix the problems raised. Is this something I can do though? --- ÅñôñÿMôús Dîššíd3nt 01:28, 12 April 2007 (UTC)Reply
I have implemented this technique into a references section in two of my most recent articles: The Battle of Alexander at Issus and Johannes Rebmann. Please tell me about what you think about what I've done in the aforementioned articles. If I have done the wrong thing, then please let me know so I can remove it from the articles. Thank you for your help, --- ÅñôñÿMôús Dîššíd3nt 03:51, 12 April 2007 (UTC) - I cannot use this technique, it is apparently against policy. --- ÅñôñÿMôús Dîššíd3nt 01:57, 15 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

Hi, I've noticed that you are knocking out some regional bird lists. You need to be a bit wary of using avibase lists without changes. Apart from the American spelling leading to abominations like Gray Wagtail, the American names used often refer to a different subspecies or even species. For example, Black Scoter is M. (n.) americana whereas the European Common Scoter is M. n. nigra. These are increasingly treated as separate species. Hope this helps. Jimfbleak.Talk to me.15:47, 26 April 2007 (UTC) (UTC)Reply

Bird Lists

edit

Yes, I notcied you were creating several high quality bird lists in unbelievable time. Well, I suggest that we either: use your one, add images to it, delete my article, and move yours to my title (my title is the conventional name isnt it? like you made an article 'list of Cuban birds, not 'list of birds of Cuba'). Alternatively, I could siphon your information into my article, add images, redirect yours and add the remaining images. Im no expert on the rule that applies here, but my article was started first, under the conventional name. Then again, yours was finished before mine. In the talk page, you seemed to infer that you were leaving the descision up to me. Is this correct, or were you wanting to discuss a plan of action? Also, what did you mean when you said: 'as I was using the data as test data and created a lot of bird lists as a result' Thanks, —ÅñôñÿMôús Dîššíd3nt 21:46, 26 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

Ahhh! That explains everything. Right, ok, well, I think that, if it is ok with you, I will use my Egyptian birds list, considering youve made so many other bird articles. Ill turn yours into a redirect. Thanks alot. (oh, and by the way, will you be nominating all of those for featured list - youd probably break some kind of record if you did!) Yours, —ÅñôñÿMôús Dîššíd3nt 06:24, 27 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

In case you are interested I have just started the series of articles on wildlife by country which should summarize flora and fauna, conservation etc by country. Really these articles should have been created before Flora of and Fauna of. I hope your Lists can become part of them. e.g List of Azerbaijani birds would be sectioned in Wildlife of Azerbaijan which I just created etc. Please respond. ♦ Sir Blofeld ♦ "Expecting you" Contribs 19:01, 27 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

Its odd because I thought the first articles that should have been written was the wildlife of and then main sectioned off into new articles Fauna of Flora of etc/.... keeping the main article. Then theese in turn would have main articles for each section e.g Mammmals of Cuba, Fish of Cuba etc like that. I have set up the African and Latin American templates ready to start all the articles which evneutally will all become beautiful looking articles like the Belize list . ♦ Sir Blofeld ♦ "Expecting you" Contribs 09:44, 28 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

If you have just about finished the bird lists please consider starting decent new articles on African wildlife -I consider these articles extremely important and they are missing, I have started Wildlife of Algeria and Wildlife of Angola.
