Miwok change

Can you please explain why you keep changing the very explicit "miwok" to the very generic & not very informative "native american" in the Yosemite National Park article? I'm baffled. Elf | Talk 21:53, 7 September 2005 (UTC)

I am a Yosemite Indian. Most people believe that Yosemite Indians were Miwoks, but the majority of the Yosemite Indians were actually Paiute.

If you read the "Discussion" I have added the proof where Bunnell writes that Chief Tenaya, himself, stated that Tenaya's father was from a total different tribe of Indians then any in the surrounding area. In other words he was not Miwok, Paiute, Washo, Maidu, or Yokut.

So as a Yosemite Indian who knowns our peoples real background it should be designated as "Native American".

The problem with the brochures[1] that were done by the Yosemite Park service are actually wrong. The person who has been in charge of the Yosemite Musuem,[2] Indian research, and Yosemite library was married to Miwok women and has a son with her. He has been in charge of that department for 30 years and we believe that his research is biased towards the Miwok point of view instead of using the original written accounts.
